Pannu is the leader of Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) and is carrying out a non-binding referendum in support of Punjab's secession from the Indian state. Recently, we met with Bhai Parmjeet Sigh Gazi to discuss the counter-insurgency operations launched by Indian security forces on March 18, 2023.

The conversation delves into a nuanced understanding of what exactly has transpired over the past few weeks in terms of the actual arrests of Sikh naujawan, the widespread censorship and intimidation of government critics, and most importantly, the psychological aspects of the operation.

Rather than a simple recounting of events however, Bhai Parmjeet Singh takes listeners beyond the immediate moment in order to actually understand the deeper layers of the Indian state’s intentions and modus operandi, the nature of the threats on our immediate horizon, and how the Panth and Punjab need to organize in order to confidently confront these challenges.

Since the beginning of the Delhi Morcha, we saw renewed waves of protest around the world, as well as numerous debates about the goals and tactics of resistance.

We caught up with Harsha Walia about the lessons the diaspora should learn from those on the ground in Punjab and Delhi. We discussed strategies to effectively confront imperialism around the world including the importance of grassroots organizing, direct action, and solidarity.

While our attention has been on Delhi and the recent bills, observers have noted that there is much more at stake than just the livelihood of farmers. Beyond the immediacy of the bills, there is an underlying churning that will impact the region and the globe as a whole. Recent depictions of Narendra Modi have portrayed his BJP government as an unstoppable force advancing towards their vision of a Hindu Rashtra. Demonetization, the recent Citizenship Amendment laws, and the abrogation of Section 370 are cited as examples of the right-wing’s determination to proceed despite widespread opposition. Massive resistance against the neoliberal farmer bills however, appears to have stopped them in their tracks. Today we will speak with Suchitra Vijayan about the significance of the Delhi Morcha in this broader context of resisting Hindutva and the repression of dissent in the subcontinent.

For months, activists have organized across Punjab in defiance of three new laws that would pave the road for the corporate takeover of Punjab’s farmlands. Grassroots responses included boycotting corporations, blocking railways, and massive demonstrations. Following months of Delhi’s silence however, Punjab marched on Delhi to smash the state’s arrogance once and for all. This podcast series will take a closer look at the ongoing Morcha to understand its immediate implications and explore what it means for the future.

Observers of the current Delhi Morcha have come to a widespread consensus that this movement will drastically impact the course of politics in the region as a whole.
