Contraband Food: Unashamedly controversial takes on food, the universe and everything
By Sword and Stone UK
People have never been more disconnected from their food. We live in a period of near-abundance in most of the world - but there is something not quite right with how we eat. Whether it’s corporations packing on the profits from selling us junk or nagging busybodies trying to ban our favourite treats, food is the site of a whole new battle and this podcast aims to navigate it for the man in the kitchen.

2 – The Unexploded Bomb of Big Farming, Mono-culture and Dependence
Introducing episode 2 of Contraband Food – yes it is episode 2 and we know that’s going to mess with some people’s sense of order, but trust us – episode 3 deserved to go out ahead of episode 2.
Why?
Because episode 2 is a slightly darker episode, in which we discuss:
- How the megafarming-industrial complex we all rely on so much for certain types of very common foods (“mono-cultures”) is like an unexploded bomb ticking away under our feet!
- Why and how we’ve put ourselves in such a precarious position – society (both producers and consumers) are practically dependent on this stuff !
- My co-host’s weight loss (to some extent) and tactics to escape the clutches of the megafarms. Help us wean civilisation off its alarming and self-defeating addiction!
All this and a bowlful of sugary absurdity to go with your vegetables this episode, so listen in to be edutained!

3 - Why big corporations are doing us a favour
In this episode, Tim as usual propagates a wildly unpopular idea based on current trends in eating out. Our streets have never been so crammed full of food-related bounty as they are today, with “even” cities outside of London such as Liverpool, Birmingham and Manchester now playing host to a cornucopia of beautiful, exciting and delicious food establishments. Burgers, pizzas, fried chicken and the rest are now available "on tap" in our town centres.
Question is, why? And why in the last few years has this happened? Where were all the Shake Shacks in 2001? Where was the 1993 version of Pizza Pilgrims? And yet why is it that in certain places you still can't get a decent bite to eat after 9pm?
There’s a dark, yet grimly un-debatable fact lurking in the background here and it’s something even the hosts themselves were unwilling to accept … until now.
