Not a fan (p4) : comfortable cross
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 5 June 2022.
Jesus tells us in Luke 9 that we must take up our cross and follow Him. The primary teaching of this verse is about our responsibility to live Godly lives in a sin-filled world. But there is another dimension to this statement that speaks about letting go and letting God.
Join us as we explore part 4 of Kyle Idleman's series "Not a fan" and let's journey together to becoming completely, committed followers of Jesus.
Not a fan (part 3) : authentic intimacy
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 29 May 2022.
Throughout Scripture, whenever God calls us into a deep and intimate relationship with Him, it is likened to that type of intimacy between a husband and a wife. But this intimacy is not to be confused with what the world has made intimacy to be about. It is so much more.
Join us as we explore part 3 of Kyle Idleman's series "Not a fan" and let's journey together to becoming completely, committed followers of Jesus.
Not a fan (part 2) : anyone and everyone
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 22 May 2022.
Whenever we hear the words "available to all" or "everyone is welcome", there is a sense of skepticism that rises up in us because of what we have experienced in life. When Jesus then invites anyone to be His follower, we find ourselves asking, "Does He really mean anyone?" And the answer to that is both comforting and disturbing.
Join us as we explore part 2 of Kyle Idleman's series "Not a fan" and let's journey together to becoming completely, committed followers of Jesus.
Not a fan (part 1): define the relationship

This is especially important for those who believe in Jesus. The show must go on
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 8 May 2022.
Jesus takes a walk with two disciples to Emmaus and shows them that despite everything that’s happened, the show must go on. The same is true for our own lives.
Always there
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 1 May 2022.
Jesus appears to His disciples the second time after His resurrection, and this time doubting Thomas is there. The impact of this encounter changes him forever and it can do the same for you too. Come learn how Jesus was always there for Thomas and how He is always there for you.
Love like no other
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 14 February 2021, in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. The greatest love story ever told is about God who loved His creation so much, that He chose to become a part of it so that He could allow Himself to be sacrificed in order to save His creation. The world has distorted this love story and turned its attention upon itself. And in the process of turning it upon itself, they have distorted and perverted what God has declared to be good.
Reset Rebuild Re-ignite
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 7 February 2021, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
God did a work in the lives of the Israelites when they were in exile. And when they returned to Jerusalem, Haggai prophesied that the glory of the second temple would be greater than the glory of the first. During this time of their return and rebuilding, their faith was re-ignited for the glory of God. Join us as we learn what led to the Israelites having a re-ignited faith.
Weathering your storm
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 31 January 2021, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
We all face storms in life. Some are greater than others, some people's storms seem to never end. Paul faced many storms in his life as a Christian too. Today we learn why we must weather our storms.
Wash Rinse Repeat
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 17 January 2021, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
Daniel was no one special when he was taken into exile to Babylon, and yet God chose to use him to bless both the kingdom he served and the kingdom of God. Despite being isolated from the temple of God, his isolation did not stop him from worshiping. But more importantly, through his daily worship, he was able to overcome fear in the face of certain death.
First things first
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 10 January 2021, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
The new year is upon us and as the old saying goes, come hell or high water, we’re going on. I am certain that none of us want to hit the rewind button, whilst some of us might just want to fast-forward now already. But as we have already heard these last few weeks, it’s all in God’s time and we need to make our time count. So what does making our time count look like in 2021? I can’t tell you for certain, but what I do know is that regardless of what year it is and regardless of whether we are facing a pandemic or not, there are certain things that we need to get right in order to make a success out of any year.
Make your time count
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 03 January 2021, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
With having lived through a year of pandemic disrupting everything that we have come to accept as normal, we stand on the doorway of a new year looking back and wondering if there is anything worth hoping for in this year ahead. We face a mutating virus, a second wave, further lockdowns pushing our economy and livelihoods beyond what we have already been able to bear. What is the point of it all? If everything is in fact meaningless as the writer of Ecclesiastes says, then what is life worth living for? Is there any point in the pursuing of anything?
The answer to that is a resounding yes. Listen how you can make your time count.
In God's time
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 27 December 2020, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
This too shall pass! Both the best and worst words to hear when you are going through life’s challenges. Yet as we stand on the threshold of 2021 with no idea what lies ahead for us, no idea what tomorrow will bring, we must take encouragement from the Word of God in the book of Ecclesiastes: this too shall pass; for He has made everything beautiful in its time.
Listen to how we can face up to life's troubles and challenges.
Come near
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 25 December 2020, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
It has always been the plan of God for us to be near to Him. But once sin came into the picture, it ruined our humanity, and our shame has been driving us away ever since, compelling us to hide ourselves from a Holy God. Yet the hope of Christmas is that because of Jesus' birth, we can draw near to God in order for Him to draw near to us.
Christmas Day message
What if?
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 20 December 2020, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
To the shepherds, the Jesus was declared Saviour. To Joseph, Jesus was declared Immanuel. To Mary, Jesus was declared king. To Jesus, He came to be a prophetic preacher, priestly healer, and princely liberator. But what if Jesus was never meant to come and never did come? What hope would you and I have if that “what if” were true?

Unlikely messengers
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 13 December 2020, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
With Jesus being called the Good Shepherd, the Great Shepherd, and the Chief Shepherd, the Bible has always had a high view of shepherds. But the gentiles did not. They were the most unlikely of messengers, and yet God chose to use them to be the first to share the gospel good news. We are more like the shepherds than what we would want to admit, and yet God has chosen to use us too.

Divine disruptions
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 6 December 2020, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
Everyone faces disruption at some time in their lives. Some are easy, others are not. Some will lead to life change, others will lead to minor change. Some disruptions are divinely ordained, whilst most are divinely redeemed. Both will require faith, submission, humility, character, discernment and obedience.

When Heaven is torn open
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 29 November 2020, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
We are all the work of God’s hand, sinners saved by grace, stumbling heavenward with each passing day. When the heavens are violently torn open and Jesus descends in the clouds with great power and glory, and the trumpet blast is sounded and His angels are dispatched to gather His saved ones, then all that has hindered our faith-walk life-journey with the Lord and caused us to stumble, will be destroyed, and our sins will be remembered no more.
Advent message 1 of 4.
It's time to power up
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 22 November 2020, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
The glory of the latter temple will be greater than the glory of the former, a glory that is expressed through us as the temple of the Holy Spirit taking the gospel to every area of our lives and society. But that greater glory will not be accomplished through us if we do not allow ourselves to be powered up for the task before us.
Greater glory
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 8 November 2020, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
Christ in you is the hope of glory, a glory declared to be greater than God’s own original presence. Greater glory means greater ability to win more souls for salvation. Christ in you goes beyond any border or limitation that any physical temple building could ever reach, carried wherever you go. Therefore the glory of the latter house, the latter household of God, will be and is already, greater than the glory of the former house.
Glory upon glory
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 1 November 2020, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
From the Garden of Eden to their return from exile in Babylon, we reflect upon the return of the nation of Israel and draw parallels to the local church's own "return" from covid-19 exile. The promise of God through the prophet Haggai was that the glory of the second temple would be greater than the glory of the former. God is at work, even in our distress.
Confident choices
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 25 October 2020, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
More than just teaching us about the advancement of the gospel, Acts 11:19-30 shows us that being full of the Holy Spirit and faith allows us to not only make good choices, but right choices too. Listen to how this played out in the four groups of people in the story.
Character is Crucial
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 18 October 2020, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
In Acts 11:19-26 we read how Barnabas was dispatched to encourage the new converts in Antioch, and explore how his biblical character contributed to further growth of the Church
the intellectual and emotional tension of preaching
In looking at Acts 11:1-18 we consider how there is both a timeless truth to the text, as well as a Spirit led devotional message. The world, and even those whom you think should be rejoicing with you, will not always be pleased with the work and works that you do. If your conviction is clear before God, you need to be doing it anyway.
God of all nations
In Acts 10:1-48 we read the account of the conversion of the Roman centurion Cornelius, which became the forerunner of door being swung wide open for the evangelism of the world, allowing us to now go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
The consequence of conversion
Learning from the conversion of Saul in Acts 9:20-31, we see that a consequence of conversion is that you can expect persecution. But we also learn how to stand up under that persecution through the help of others, and how compassion strengthens and grows the church.
Equipped to share
Looking at the conversion of Saul in Acts 9:20-31, we see that because he was sufficiently equipped, he was able to baffle the Jews and prove that Jesus was the saviour. The Word of God will show us today that there is an expectation to reach people post our own conversion and what we need to do to equip ourselves in order to share the Gospel with others.
What are you asking and waiting for?
One of the lessons that we learn from Acts 3 is that we don’t always get what we ask for. We may ask God to supply what we think we need, but today’s text shows us that He might give us something different, what we actually need. It shows us that God is ultimately the one who knows what’s right for us.
Faith and action go hand in hand
Delivered on our Lord's Day, 14 June 2020, at North Baptist Church, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
How many times have we looked toward God, even had the boldness to ask for something, but then just as quickly turned our gaze away? How many of us are like the lame beggar in Acts 3? The Lord does not always give as we ask, but when He gives and what He gives is better. The lame man asks for money and gets life. But he had to take a hold of the outstretched hand of his giver in order to fully walk in the blessing being given.
