Thank you Owen

Thank you Owen

The Originator of the Yaaassss

In this emotionally charged episode of the Green Sunrise Podcast, host Paul reflects on one of the most challenging decisions he has ever made: leaving his heartfelt role at Enable Scotland, a charity dedicated to supporting vulnerable adults. His journey caring for a 30-year-old man with cerebral palsy, named Owen, not only had a profound impact on Owen's life but also transformed Paul's perspective on life and purpose.

As Paul recalls, his initial task was to look after Owen, feeding and changing him during their precious seven hours together. Owen's resilience in the face of physical limitations left an indelible mark on Paul, inspiring him to navigate life's challenges with patience and grace.

Owen's incredible ability to communicate, despite the obstacles he faced, revealed his sharp wit and a dark sense of humor that often had Paul in stitches. From their outings to local coffee shops to dancing at tea parties hosted by Gary Coupland of the Singing Kettle, their shared experiences were nothing short of joyous, reminding us that life's beauty can shine through even the darkest moments.

As Paul opened up about his own life, Owen's genuine interest in his dating experiences and family life left an enduring impact. This connection went far beyond the traditional caregiver-patient relationship; it was a genuine friendship.

What makes this episode even more special is the fact that Owen, not just inspired by the podcast but loved it. He became an integral part of every episode by requesting a signature addition. Paul fondly remembers starting each episode with a joyful "Yaaasss, welcome to Green Sunrise Podcast!" – a cheerful tribute to Owen's spirit, added as a permanent feature at Owen's request.

The decision to leave Owen and other individuals he supported was a difficult one, but it was driven by Paul's burning desire to work on his vision for Green Sunrise Podcast and contribute to suicide prevention efforts. He had to venture out into the world and help others in need.

In this heartfelt episode, Paul expresses his gratitude to Owen, Raymond, Charlie, and their families for making him a better person. Their stories are a testament to the power of human connection and the profound impact one person can have on another's life.

Join us on this emotional journey, as Paul takes you through the profound transformation he experienced while caring for Owen, who is now 30 years of age as of this year, and how this experience fueled his passion for suicide prevention work. The Green Sunrise Podcast aims to inspire and support its audience in their life journey, reminding us that we all need a helping hand from time to time.

Listen to this poignant episode, and remember, you are not alone in your struggles. Together, we can make a difference. Thank you for being a part of our community, and we hope you find strength and inspiration in Paul's heartfelt story, and in Owen's enduring spirit of "Yaaasss."

For anybody that never got to say goodbye.

For anybody that never got to say goodbye.

Things to give me some things you should say to loved ones whilst they’re still here and alive, like a song for anybody that never got to say goodbye.
Absolutely, expressing your feelings to your loved ones while they're still here is incredibly important. Here are a few heartfelt things you might want to say:

1. "I love you and appreciate everything you've done for me."
2. "You've made a positive impact on my life, and I'm grateful for you."
3. "Thank you for being a constant source of support and love."
4. "I admire your strength and resilience."
5. "I cherish the moments we've shared together."
6. "You've taught me valuable lessons that I'll carry with me."
7. "I'm proud of who you are and all that you've achieved."
8. "Your presence brings warmth and joy to my life."
9. "I want you to know how much you mean to me."
10. "I'm lucky to have you in my life, and I'm so glad we've had the chance to know each other."

These sentiments can be shared in various ways, whether through conversations, heartfelt letters, or even through creative mediums like songs, as you mentioned. It's all about conveying your feelings and making sure your loved ones understand just how much they mean to you. Certainly, here are 10 ways to love yourself more:

1. **Practice Self-Compassion**: Be kind to yourself, just as you would to a friend, especially when facing challenges or mistakes.

2. **Prioritize Self-Care**: Regularly engage in activities that nourish your body, mind, and soul, whether it's exercise, meditation, reading, or spending time with loved ones.

3. **Set Boundaries**: Respect your own time and energy by establishing healthy boundaries in your relationships and commitments.

4. **Positive Self-Talk**: Replace self-criticism with positive affirmations and encouraging thoughts.

5. **Embrace Your Uniqueness**: Celebrate your individuality and the qualities that make you who you are.

6. **Forgive Yourself**: Let go of past mistakes and regrets, allowing yourself to move forward with a lighter heart.

7. **Celebrate Achievements**: Acknowledge and celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem.

8. **Engage in Hobbies**: Pursue activities that bring you joy and make you feel accomplished.

9. **Practice Gratitude**: Regularly reflect on the things you're grateful for in your life, cultivating a positive outlook.

10. **Surround Yourself with Positivity**: Choose to be around people who uplift and support you, and create an environment that fosters your well-being.

Remember that self-love is an ongoing journey, and it's important to be patient and kind to yourself along the way.
