18. How you can go from obsessing over your health to naturally making your best choices

Have you ever wondered why it’s so hard to start a new habit? Are you wishing that the choices you know you should be making for your health were easy and came so naturally that you didn’t have to think about them?

I hear you! I used to get so frustrated by how much time and energy I was spending thinking about my health, what I weighed, what I ate, how much I exercised, all the things! It was ridiculous and I felt obsessed!

Little did I know that all that thinking about it would pay off over time! The caveat, of course, being that I stuck with it and was doing the right things for me to become my healthiest self! I had spent a lot of years and way too much effort trying to change in the wrong way for the wrong reasons and it just didn’t work. When I discovered that living healthy could be simple and fun and joyful, life got so much better!

Today I’m sharing with you ALL THE THINGS about how to really find freedom in your healthy choices so that you make them naturally and without having to spend so much time THINKING about it!

Curious to know exactly HOW you need to think in order to live healthy for the rest of your life? Well, I’m laying it all out today!

I’ll share the #1 truth you need to believe to live healthy in true confidence, two strategies to help you begin living out the truth today, but before I go into those, I’ll teach you how to build the right foundation so that these changes will last a lifetime!

I believe that starting with the right foundation of developing a spiritual growth mindset has to be where you begin, where you grow from in your journey of healthy living.

Because starting here means that in all you are doing, you’re doing it with the purpose of fulfilling God’s purpose and doing it in partnership with Him. It means you’re willing to do what it takes, do what God is calling you to do, through any circumstances, showing up, giving your all, and all for His glory.

If you build on this foundation, the rest will fall into place. Once your foundation is set, you’ve embraced this spiritual growth mindset, this understanding of finding your true confidence from your identity in Christ  first…

15. 3 Things You Tell Your Kids That You Probably Need to Start Telling Yourself More Too (Including Special Guests Caleb & Daniel Joyce)

How many times do you repeat things like this to your kids?

  • "Go to bed, you're tired, you need a nap!"
  • "Eat your fruits and veggies, they'll make you big and strong, you don't need that much sugar right now, put the candy away!"
  • "Change your attitude, don't be sad/angry/upset, just because you didn't get your way doesn't mean you can throw a fit about!"

Anyone else besides me say these things ALL THE TIME?!?

My goodness, why don't they listen. Mom knows best. I'm just trying to help them do what's most helpful for them. Can't they understand that?

Let me ask YOU these...

  • Do you ever ignore your body's signs of tiredness, stay up late, get grumpy or irritable because of lack of sleep?
  • Do you choose too much sugar or other foods over fruits and veggies?
  • Do you let a negative emotion or attitude about something influence your mood or responses to circumstances that didn't go quite how you thought they should?

If you’re feeling a little ouch in your soul right now, I’m with you! This is the lesson I’ve been reminded of a lot lately!

See, the things we do for our kids, try to teach them, expectations we have for them are not that far off of how we should be living. Just because we aren't kids anymore doesn't mean we don't need sleep, nutritious foods, or attitude adjustments at times. AND more surprising than that statement, the reasons behind and the processes for living these things out are actually about the same for our kids and us! So really, you're getting a two for one today, lessons helpful in parenting and in developing your own healthy lifestyle.

So here we go, today I’m sharing my best and simplest strategies for making sure you get the best sleep, adding nutritious foods to your diet, and adjusting your attitude to experience more JOY in all circumstances of life!

OH and stay tuned at the end where I’m actually going to bring my two kiddos on and ask them how they feel when I tell them some of these things! It’s adorable sometimes to hear wisdom from our kids, they truly can teach us so much if we let them!

10. Why I care about your relationship with the Lord as much as I care about whether you exercised or ate your vegetables

Hearing from the Lord and walking out the things He’s calling me to is a huge part of my life. Lately, I have realized just how much more effectively I can do this now that I’m living a healthy lifestyle.

Not because I eat perfectly, exercise every day, or weigh a certain amount…

but because my mind is not consumed or obsessed with all things related to my health,

Because my schedule is not so busy that I can’t find the time to slow down and hear from God,

Because my emotions don’t cause me to go into spirals of feeling out of control with the things happening in my life.

I’ve learned that I can truly rest in the Lord and live in His peace.

In this episode, I want to simply provide encouragement to your spirit. I truly believe that a healthy lifestyle includes health in body, mind, and spirit so your relationship with the Lord is just as important to me as whether or not you exercise or eat all your servings of fruits and veggies today.

I know how difficult it can be to experience the presence of God or hear His voice when life is going a million miles an hour, you feel so focused on all the things your kids needs right now, whether you’re supposed to homeschool or send them back into the classroom, how you’re going to lose weight, why you feel so disconnected from your husband or friends, how you’re going to be in three places at once with all the things you’ve committed to, or whatever else takes up your time and energy…

Today, I want to hold the space for you as you are listening and even when this episode wraps up, to recognize the presence of the Lord and the things He might be speaking to you about.

As a mom, do you take care of yourself FIRST? Or does guilt take over whenever you do anything for yourself?

You're probably thinking something like, "yea right, my family needs all the things and THEN I'll think about taking care of myself!"

BUT the truth is, you weren't meant to eat only scraps from your kids plate, run around town as a ball of stress trying to get your kids to every activity, or let anything come before your relationship with the Lord.

Yep, I said it.

Your health, your family and friends, and the Lord NEED you to take care of yourself.

The problem is, you, like many other moms, might struggle to find the time, know how to, or even fully understand why it's so important.

Self-care has become a bit cliché these days but I want to break down some fresh ways you can take care of yourself and make sure you’re showing up as the woman God created you to be each and every day.

Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to cost you a dime BUT it will take effort and intention!

5. 3 reasons consistency is hard and what to do about it

Ever wonder why consistency is so hard?

If you’ve spent any amount of time on a health journey, you’ve probably decided for yourself WHY you want to get healthy. You likely have a plan or know WHAT you want to do to get healthy. NOW, you just have to do those things and make it happen again and again. It’s all about being consistent.

Easier said than done right?

You might be feeling like you’ve tried everything already and never made it stick.

You might feel like you are at the end of your rope and have no idea what else you could possibly try.

You might be so sick of the promises of all the diet and workout programs on the market that you aren’t even sure it’s worth the energy to try to get healthy anymore.

I’d like to tell you today that it’s worth it and I promise there’s a better way. You can do it if you don’t give up. The Lord has big plans for you and if you believe that today, listen in.

Because while consistency is quite honestly the hardest part of living healthy, there are a few key things I share today that will help you even if you feel like you’ve never been able to be consistent in the past.
