Issue 43 - From Hell

Issue 43 - From Hell

Issue 43!

It's been a while since we talked about an Alan Moore book... so we had to go big!

From Hell is a tediously researched historical fiction that aims to put a cohesive narrative around the Whitechapel Murders of 1888, better known as the Jack the Ripper killings.

This episode also marks the first appearance of Erica Livingston on the show!

Erica and Nick dive into this tome and talk about everything from Pagan Architecture to Royal Inbreeding... it's a fun, easy-listening experience.

All-in-all, Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell's work on this book is something to behold. It gives us an enthralling story while also having plenty to say about every subject it tackles. Whether it be the corruption of government institutions, the development of modern society, or just the hardships of everyday people in an unjust world; From Hell delivers.

So grab your best black bonnet and pray your carriage driver doesn't have a knife. We are going to Hell.

In the 1950's, both Russia and the US sent some animals to space. Both missions were deemed as failures resulting in the animal's deaths... but what if that wasn't the case? What if those animals survived? ... and now they are trying to get home.

This is it! The end of our journey discussing Watchmen related material. And what better way to end it than the book that started it all?

Now, this isn't a typical episode where we break down the story and discuss it as we go... Watchmen has been analyzed to death. So we opted for a more free-form discussion.

On this episode, you will join four friends who have very different experiences and opinions regarding Watchmen. We go through our feelings on the book itself, the multimedia franchise it has spawned, and its overall impact on the world as we know it.

This is the beginning of a five-part series in which we are going to deep dive into Watchmen-related material!

And what better place to start than the beginning of a new era? The DC Rebirth special helmed by Geoff Johns and a throng of top talent artists was the beginning of an initiative that saw DC Comics pushed to the forefront of the industry. It sets up everything... and we mean, everything.

But what's that got to do with Watchmen? Well, if you somehow haven't had this spoiled for you... it involves Watchmen. And we are going to go through it piece by piece to see where it succeeds, where is may flounder, and where this story plans to take us.
