I Get It. (My Story)

I Get It. (My Story)

To my listeners, especially those who are experiencing the trauma of domestic violence, I get it.

I have walked in your shoes. I have experienced the physical pain and I have felt the shame that goes along with the not wanting anyone to know what you were experiencing, I get it.

I'm here to tell you today that you can make it. I might feel impossible. You might even be scared to death to move forward, I get it, but again, let me tell you that you can make it.

Why did you stay?

Why did you stay?

Why did you not just leave? It is so easy for someone on the outside looking in to ask the question. A question that is so degrading for the victim, a question somewhat excusing the abuser's behavior. The question should be "Why are YOU violent?" Right?

Which one is harder, Letting Go, Moving On or Starting Over?

Which one is harder, Letting Go, Moving On or Starting Over?

Which is Harder; Letting Go? Moving On? or Starting Over?

"Letting go isn't the end of the world; it's the beginning of a new life." Author Unknown.

Letting go is hard to do because letting go of someone that you love can be hard.

Moving on can be super scary because of the unknown or where to go or what to do.

Starting over simply give you an opportunity to realize what was wrong in what you just experienced and what mistakes you made and them you can move forward with those learned lessons.

Why one is Harder?

Special thank you to my guest panel: Marjetta, Sonya and Crissy.

Domestic Violence on College Campuses (Panel Discussion)

Domestic Violence on College Campuses (Panel Discussion)

Intimate partner violence can be prevalent on college campuses too. According to Healing Abuse Working for Change, college-aged women (between 16-24) have the highest per capita rate of intimate partner violence. 21% of college students report having experienced dating violence by a current partner, and 32% of college students report experiencing dating violence by a previous partner. Peer pressure, the presence of drugs and alcohol, stressful schedules, tight-knit friend groups, and social media contribute to higher rates of abuse, sexual assault, and stalking for students.

Special thanks to my Co-host, Mrs. Crissy and our amazing panelist of college students, Ms. Cashana, Ms. Neci and Ms. Kyla.

Low Self Esteem = No Self Esteem

Low Self Esteem = No Self Esteem

A dictionary definition of Self Esteem is the confidence in one's own worth or abilities; Self-Respect.

Some of the many causes of low self-esteem may include: Unhappy childhood where parents were extremely critical. Poor academic performance in school resulting in a lack of confidence, Ongoing stressful life events such as relationship breakdown, abuse or financial trouble to name a few.

Build your Self Esteem by believing in yourself.

Use Positive Self - Talk:

I am healing, It's okay to have these feelings; my feelings are valid, I deserve love and respect as I am, I'm thankful for what my body can do for me; I'm strong and capable.

Talking to my 20 Year old self

Talking to my 20 Year old self

Sometimes we wish that we could turn back the hands of time but in reality that will never be something that we will be able to accomplish. What I know now is what I wish she, the 20 year old me, had known.

I speak to her and share with her the journey ahead.

Healed, Empowered Restored Women (H.E.R.). Ms. Dormell Bailey

Healed Empowered Restored women is the love child of Ms. D. Bailey, Greenville, SC.

H.E.R. stands for Healed, Empowered and Restored Women and is created to encourage all women, young and seasoned, that there is healing after the trauma of molestation or lets just call it what it is, RAPE. As a child, D.B. was a victim of this type of trauma and realized that the only way to heal is to forgive but never forget. Healing is a long process. As a grown woman, D.B. is still healing.

The Perils of Emotional Abuse

The Perils of Emotional Abuse

Domestic Violence does not discriminate.

Domestic violence includes behaviors that physically harm, arouse fear, prevent a partner from doing what they wish or force them to behave in ways they do not want. It includes the use of physical and sexual violence, threats and intimidation, emotional abuse and economic deprivation. Many of these different forms of domestic violence/abuse can be occurring at any one time within the same intimate relationship.

Emotional abuse can have a devastating impact on your mental health and physical being.
