S2E02: Jaw Wiring- The Weight Loss Secret That Keeps Everyone’s Mouth Shut
Jaw wiring is one of the new diet fads that have come about. We thought we’d indulge you in the good, the bad and the ugly. Remember that as health professionals we are here to help you make an informed decision so none of these opinions are our own. So...What are the benefits? Short term weight loss is the only benefit found from this diet.
What about the dangers? Well you can expect vitamin and mineral deficiencies due to low variety in intake as a result of changing consistency of food. Your energy levels may be low due to a severe calorie deficit. Regarding the weight loss, we have bad news for you...there is mainly a loss in muscle mass and water weight rather than fat mass as many people on this liquid diet on the jaw wiring do not eat enough protein
This diet could also be a choking hazard because the food items are liquidised! Long story short? This procedure doesn’t lead to long term results.
To hear more, give this episode a listen because as experts in the field of nutrition, registered dietitians Azi and Mbali go into all the details you’d need to know!
S02E01: New year, New Me: Take Your Health to the Next Level with Sustainable Goal Setting in 2023
We are so excited to be back for yet another season! What you can expect in season two is a whole lot more of us! We have a variety of different topics planned for this season, but we would love your input! Please share with us the topics you would like to hear about on the podcast. Now lets talk about goal setting!
The main challenge with goal setting is that we tend to set goals that are not specific, are unrealistic and tend to have no direction. This causes certain goals to be left by the wayside within the first few months of the year.
The challenge with unrealistic goals is that they come with a lot of guilt when not achieved within the short time frame we often associate with them. One place to start is being more realistic. Instead of trying to cut out certain things in your diet to lose weight, or to stop drinking, or exercise 7 day a week, try to see what you can add into your lifestyle and your body will thank you for it.
Tune in to this week's episode to find out more about how to set more sustainable goals.
We will also be introducing a new segment called The Nutrition Nugget, where we share a hot take or discuss a topic based on what you would like to hear. Please feel free to let us know what you would like us to discuss on the nutrition nugget of the week via our socials.
