Throughout most of human history, human beings believed in animism, and it doesn’t contradict religion (or, it doesn’t have to.)

Animism is the belief that everything in Nature is alive and has a spirit or consciousness—not just humans and animals, but also trees, rivers, rocks, mountains, and even weather systems.

It’s one of the oldest belief systems in the world and is found in many Indigenous and earth-based traditions.

Animism teaches that the world is made up of relationships - that we’re in constant dialogue with the more-than-human world, and that everything is interconnected and deserving of respect.


Animism invites us to…

  • listen to and talk to Nature

  • treat Nature as kin, not a resource

  • live in reciprocity, to give to Nature as well as receive


Animism and relationship with Nature are always available to ALL of us.


When we add psychedelics to the mix, especially ones derived from plants and fungi, our perception of how alive and relational Nature is becomes amplified.

In a 2019 study published in Journal of Psychopharmacology, participants who took psilocybin (magic mushrooms) reported a 58% increase in their sense of connectedness to nature, and this feeling persisted even two weeks after the experience (Lyons & Carhart-Harris, 2019.)

And this study was actually done in a clinical/medical setting, not even in Nature.

We have the full moon this Saturday, April 12, in the astrological sign of Libra.

Libra is ruled by Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and connection, so this really places an emphasis on fairness, reciprocity, and balance in our interpersonal relationships.

When we have a full moon, the moon has reached its peak brightness, and this means these areas of life are being illuminated for us to focus on.

The full moon is the culmination of a cycle and a time to release, so this a time to think about letting go of relationships, patterns, or habits that create imbalance. 

To be clear, it doesn’t mean it’s always time to ditch an entire relationship (though it might be!) but for all of us it’s definitely time to renegotiate anything making things feel unfair, unreciprocal, or imbalanced.

Today I had a client tell me she’s feeling low and can’t put her finger on why. I was able to remind her, hey, it’s the middle of the week after Daylight Savings Time.

Our circadian rhythms are all thrown off right now (not because of Nature but because of our silly illusions about time lol.)

I used to feel low like this all the time too, until I learned these tips I'm going to share.

There are some specific cues from our external environment that "train" our circadian rhythm: light, food, sleep, temperature, and location. Aren't our bodies are so brilliantly adaptive?!

Here's EXACTLY what to do this week (and actually, forevermore! You feel so much better when your circadian rhythm and therefore your hormones aren't f*cked up.)

I love honoring the Wheel of the Year with others by gathering together to celebrate how Nature is modeling wisdom for us in each season & aligning ourselves with it.

This turn in the Wheel of the Year is Imbolc (pronounced Imolk, from the Celtic phrase "in the belly" referring to the lamb's pregnant bellies this time of year.)

We are finally moving out of Winter hibernation and awakening to Spring!

This is the time for Spring cleaning, planting our seeds (literally and metaphorically), connecting to our playful and adventurous inner Maiden archetype, and setting goals for what we want to create this year.

Imbolc is an ancient Celtic winter fire festival honoring the return of the sun and the goddess Brigid. In more recent times, we have celebrated it in religion as St. Brigid's Day or Candlemas, and even secularly as Groundhog Day.

Yule marks the Winter Solstice and is typically a 12 day celebration filled with gratitude and generosity, starting on Dec 21 and going through the end of December.

It's a celebration of the rebirth of the Light, after we pass the shortest day and longest night of the year. It’s a time where winter is modeling sacred rest, stillness, reflection, and resilience.

Because of the discrepancy between the lunar calendar (354 days) and the solar calendar (365.25 days), lunar-based cultures consider these "extra 12 days" to be mythic time, time outside of time, where the ordinary rules of life are suspended and the veil between worlds is thin.


Did you know?

The idea that Santa Claus has shamanic roots tied to psychedelics comes from interpretations of Siberian and Arctic shamanic traditions. This theory proposes that many elements of the Santa Claus story—his appearance, behavior, and even the flying reindeer—may be influenced by shamanic practices, particularly those involving the Amanita muscaria mushroom.

Even though the exact date is December 21, we can celebrate this whole season.

213. How to stop improving yourself and get into flow

I used to feel like if something in my life wasn't working, it was because I needed to improve myself. I needed to be more something or less something. More loving, more patient, more disciplined, more grateful, more content... less selfish, less lazy, less overanalytical or less sensitive.

Can you relate?

What I have come to learn is that believing I need to improve myself is internalized shame. Shame is the belief that I am wrong, bad, broken, not enough, or too much. Now, when something isn't working in my life, I don't shame myself. Instead, I realize I am simply arguing with reality and out of flow.

206. How to use intuitive tools like oracle cards, pendulums, & dowsing rods - PLUS a LIVE Emotion Code Reading - with Amber Mefferd

Recently I had a situation in my personal life that really threw me. It side-swiped me, surprised me, and to say it challenged me would me a huge understatement. It SHOOK me.

And when the stakes felt so incredibly high to hear from my intuition about what to do, I was MASSIVELY comforted and helped by using my intuitive tools:

1) to get clear yes/no answers from my intuition, and

2) to get specific guidance from oracle cards about specific questions I had that needed more than a yes/no response

Intuitive tools, also sometimes called divination tools, have been used in every culture and belief system throughout all of history (including in Christianity and the Bible, in case that concerns you. We’ll talk more about that in our gathering too!)

They are simply instruments or methods used to gain insight, guidance, or knowledge from your Intuition and/or from more-than-human wisdom (e.g. God/the divine, spirit guides, ancestors, the subconscious mind, your higher self. Whatever word you use for it, they help you connect with that deeper knowing!)

ALL of us, no matter how “evolved” we may be, get BLOCKED from our Intuition from time to time.

I find it’s usually related to Fear, and our protective parts take over, and our mind starts looping us in fearful and controlling thoughts.

These tools help break up those blockages and reconnect us back to the voice of Love.
