Laura Elizabeth- Author of "All is Now Lost"
Welcome to Mongin Island, the South Carolina Lowcountry home of Carr Jepson and the cozy Books & Brew bookstore, where hot and cold tea is not the only thing brewing. Book #1 of The Island Mysteries series finds Carr Jepson arriving alone on Mongin Island, ready to start the next chapter of her life. Accessible by boat, Mongin Island has very few cars, no busy roads, no crowds, no traffic lights, no bridge, but boasts gloriously oak-lined roads, beaches of powdery white sand, marshes with tall beach grasses and an empty storefront that speaks to an unanswered dream in Carr's heart: creating a gathering spot that happens to sell books.Recognizing that the Books & Brew's bare walls could use some "island life," Carr decides to photograph the glorious island scenery. Promising a truly unique sunrise photo, Carr's friend Barb takes her to Governor's Point, an abandoned property that was supposed to be an exclusive waterfront neighborhood. The now neglected property is overgrown and is Barb's secret hideaway for enjoying some of the island's most spectacular water views. But what the two women find in the water that morning sets off a mystery that crisscrosses the island and surfaces the many reasons, some of them deeply rooted in the island's once-turbulent history, that families have come to love this spot in the Atlantic for many generations. If you love cozy mysteries or you're looking for your next beach read, you'll find this page-turner riveting. Be prepared to be swept into Carr's journey as an amateur sleuth.

Ed Bisch of Relatives Against Purdue Pharma- RAPP
Ed Bisch's story is a tragic example of the devastating impact of the opioid crisis in the United States, which has claimed the lives of thousands of people. OxyContin, a prescription painkiller, has been a focal point in this crisis due to its potential for abuse and addiction.
Ed Bisch's advocacy through RAPP (Relatives Against Purdue Pharma) reflects the anger and frustration of many individuals and families who have suffered due to opioid addiction and overdose deaths. Purdue Pharma, the company responsible for manufacturing OxyContin, faced significant legal challenges and lawsuits for its role in the opioid epidemic. In November 2021, Purdue Pharma filed for bankruptcy and reached a settlement agreement in which the company and the Sackler family, who owned Purdue Pharma, agreed to pay billions of dollars to address the opioid crisis.
While this settlement provided financial compensation and assistance for addiction treatment and prevention programs, it did not result in criminal charges against Purdue Pharma executives or the Sackler family. Ed Bisch's goal of seeing jail time for those involved in the opioid crisis is a complex legal matter and would require a thorough investigation and legal action by government authorities.
The opioid crisis remains a significant public health issue, and many advocacy groups like RAPP continue to work towards holding responsible parties accountable and raising awareness about the devastating consequences of opioid addiction. Public pressure, legal actions, and advocacy efforts are essential to addressing this ongoing crisis and preventing further harm to individuals and families.

Achieve Greatness was founded in memory of our beloved son, brother, and friend, Andrew, who passed away from fentanyl poisoning in March of 2022. Before Andrew’s passing, he was passionate about coaching and teaching basketball while helping youth in his community. He created Achieve Greatness, where he mentored youth through basketball.
In his memory, we have continued Achieve Greatness, building it into a nonprofit organization. Our mission is to continue to capture Andrew’s vision of sponsoring youth through basketball camps and other sports while also bringing awareness to and educating people about the dangers of fentanyl. In addition, we will also utilize our platform to address opioid use and addiction in our communities.
Andrew was raised in Ludlow and New Bedford, Massachusetts, and his family continues to have strong roots in both communities. Therefore Achieve Greatness will host and attend community events statewide. Through these activities and sports camp sponsorships, we will communicate this important message and help save lives:

Daufuskie is its own magic. There is something immediately compelling about a place that can speak to you with its quiet, can inspire you with its beauty, can encourage you to dream by sharing its natural bounty, and can welcome you with possibility tucked into its mystery.
As one of the Atlantic coastal islands, Daufuskie has been marked by centuries of American history and was made famous by novelist Pat Conroy's memoir The Water Is Wide in which he imagined the island in his unique way. From our family’s years of long beach walks on Daufuskie with our dogs, exploration, treasure hunts, and incredible family memories— Mongin Island was imagined and became the basis of my mystery series. After moving from Richmond, Virginia, to Atlanta, Georgia, my husband and both our children still enjoy time together on "our" island.

Cabo Verdeans United (CVU)
Cabo Verdeans United (CVU) was founded in 2001 by two sisters, Genie Lomba and Tila Adams. They were born on the island of Brava, Cabo Verde and emigrated to the United States as teenagers. Genie and Tila believed it was important to involve themselves in an organization that would create a positive impact on youth growing up in Cabo Verde. After forming CVU, "Project Sandbox" was launched with the goal of building at least one playground on each of the nine inhabited islands of Cabo Verde. A team of committed CVU members, volunteers and supporters worked tirelessly to ensure CVU’s success. To date, we have successfully built playgrounds on each of the islands, thereby achieving our mission. However, we feel that one playground on each island is just not enough.
CVU does not only build playgrounds, but it transforms communities. We firmly believe that every child in Cabo Verde deserves to have a safe place to play, learn and grow. Please join us in continuing to build smiles on the faces of every child in Cabo Verde.
In 2006, CVU received its official 501(c)3 charitable status retroactive to its inception date of 2001.

“A Matter of Respect”
Officer Carly Redmond witnesses an armed robbery and makes an off-duty arrest of a mentally ill man that leads to the death of a fellow officer by the suspect Joshua Randall. During interrogation by her department and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, Carly learns the video at the jail intake of Joshua murdering the officer with a switchblade is missing, and the radio printout is altered. She is sure she patted down the suspect and bagged the knife, but ‘the powers that be’ accuse her of negligence. Discovering how Joshua got the knife leads to uncovering bad cops, a CEO willing to demolish Africatown, a section of Mobile Alabama built by slaves in the eighteen hundreds.
