When we struggle and even when we fail, we see the true opportunities and make the biggest strides in self improvement and self actualization. Strive to learn, not just to get the A.

My friend, Johnny, co-hosts The Art of Charm Podcast and Bootcamp. The most recent AoC topic was dating and the guys talked about a lot of interesting ideas around the topic. Along the way we discuss limerence or falling in love with the idea of falling in love, as well as nervousness, overthinking, and the pros and cons of dating in the digital age with apps like Tinder and Bumble. And of course we got off on some conversation about self-improvement as a couple like-minded self improvement junkies tend to do. :) Here's the link to the start of the AoC Podcasts on dating https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-art-of-charm/id212382281?i=1000437311098 and a link to the Art of Charm website where you can find out more about their classes centered around improving your soft skills and becoming more confident! https://theartofcharm.com

Episode 44: Hormones, Diet, Steroids, and More! With Guest Mike Gibbs
When I became curious about the effects of different hormones on the body, I started to do some research. I still had some questions, so I thought it would be a great opportunity for a conversation with my friend Mike Gibbs from Elite Fitness Now. Mike is a nurse practitioner, strength and conditioning coach, and yoga instructor, he has lots of experience surrounding exercise and nutrition as well as other relevant areas that are tied into these two such as mental health. He also has a great deal of knowledge on hormones. Our discussion was, to my delight more wide ranging than I anticipated. I hope you enjoy! Topics covered in addition to those mentioned in title: psychological attraction to food, the ketogenic diet, the glycemic index, why Mike is not a fan of grains (but is a fan of getting enough carbs in the diet), body-fat percentages, insulin resistance and diabetes. Mike's website: https://www.elitefitnessnow.com/ Elite Fitness Now Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elitefitness.now/ Mentioned/Relevant: Hormones- affect bodily processes and take place in organs. Catabolic Hormones: convert muscle into energy, reduce inflammation, and stop immune response.  (A common catabolic hormone is Cortisol which is the "stress hormone" known for breaking down muscle. Mike discusses on the podcast why we still need SOME cortisol despite its negative connotation.) Anabolic Hormones: essentially do the opposite of catabolic hormones, especially stimulating muscle growth and bone density. (Among these are Testosterone (male sex hormone), Estrogen (female sex hormone), and Insulin which takes sugar out of blood and send it into cells (Mike and I talk a lot about insulin.) Neurotransmitters- neural connections that take place in the brain. (Examples are the "feel good chemical" Serotonin, the fight or flight chemical Adrenaline (Epinephrine and Norepinephrine), and Dopamine (compulsion, rewards, pleasure, habit/addiction) The Sympathetic Nervous System- Parasympathetic (relaxation) and Sympathetic (release of Adrenaline, increased heart rate, etc.) Takeaways- a good exercise, diet, and sleep routine will take you where you need to be in the aspect of having healthy hormones for the most part. Many men above 40 would benefit from hormone replacement therapy, I know I will look into this at a later age!

We are all guilty of it. Constantly browsing social media for longer and longer periods, watching too much YouTube and Netflix. Episode 30: Big Idea Saturday- Stop Being Embarrassed About What You Love
The idea for this podcast came from my chat with Mike Matthews on the Muscle for Life Podcast, I included the link at the bottom if you haven't listened yet. If you're sick of hearing me talk about it I promise this is one of the last times, I'm just very proud of having the opportunity as it's something that's been a goal of mine for a long time! Anyway- in this podcast I discuss the neuroticism I've had in the past about health and fitness and how I've largely overcome it. I also share a couple some weird/embarrassing stories to highlight just how aberrant my habits and behaviors used to be. The theme I tried to embody is that you should be open and honest about what you like and what you care about, something I didn't do for a long time. This will enable you to learn more and make connections you otherwise wouldn't. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/muscle-for-life-with-mike-matthews/id671863400?i=1000445789262
