Patience
Thank you for listening to the First Baptist Church of Oregon City Sermons Podcast!

Zooming Out
CHRIST IS RISEN! CHRIST IS RISEN INDEED!
Thank you for listening to the First Baptist Church of Oregon City Sermons Podcast!
Reducing Jesus' death and resurrection to the phrase "Jesus died to forgive our sins" says something important, but also something incomplete. We need to zoom out to get the complete picture.

CHRIST IS RISEN! CHRIST IS RISEN INDEED!

Two of Jesus' disciples decide to get out of town and run into a fellow traveller. It isn't until they sit at the table that they recognise the presence of Jesus. What does that have to say about us?

CHRIST IS RISEN!
CHRIST IS RISEN INDEED!
EASTER SUNDAY. There's an earthquake, an angel, and a stone rolled away to reveal an empty tomb. Meanwhile, two women are on their way to grieve. They will instead be sent to deliver the Good News to the disciples—first by an angel, then by Jesus himself.
This sermon is from 17 April 2022. "The First Gospel Preachers" was delivered by Pastor John Withum. The sermon text is Matthew 28:1-10. The supplemental text is Psalm 118.

Good Friday: The Losers
Thank you for listening to the First Baptist Church of Oregon City Sermons Podcast!
Good Friday. The dark day. Jesus is shamed, spat on, humiliated, and nailed to the cross. By all accounts, he is just another failed messiah—a loser. But above him is a sign declaring him King of the Jews, and his death defeats the dark powers that hold the world captive. To bring new life into our world in the way of Jesus, we also have to get used to losing.
This sermon is from 15 April 2022. "The Losers" was delivered by Pastor John Withum. The sermon text is Matthew 27:45-55. The supplemental text is Matthew 27:32-44.

Who Is This?
Thank you for listening to the First Baptist Church of Oregon City Sermons Podcast!
It's Palm Sunday! Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey and is greeted by a parade of palms. What does this all mean? And how do we grapple with the question of who Jesus is? It means adjusting our expectations to meet Jesus, not the other way around.
This sermon is from 10 April 2022. "Who Is This?" was delivered by Pastor John Withum. The sermon text is Matthew 21:1-11. The supplemental text is Zechariah 9:9-12.

Storm

Witness
Thank you for listening to the First Baptist Church of Oregon City Sermons Podcast!
What does it mean to "witness" as a follower of Jesus? Do we have to accost people at bus stops? It might be helpful to consider our Christian witness as a spiritual practice, rather than a term loaded down with baggage from the past.
This sermon is from 20 February 2022. "Witness" was delivered by Pastor John Withum. The sermon text is Philippians 1:27-30. The supplementary text read before the message was 1 John 1:1-7.
