Season 2 Episode 7: Architecture: The Mother of All Arts ft. Lisa Raynes, Pride Rd Architects

How do women do it? Architecture is such a time-consuming and demanding career, and at times it gets hard to dedicate time to your life outside of architecture. Is it true that you can prioritise your family and still progress in the industry?

This episode explores the balance between motherhood and the architectural career. Our guest, Lisa Raynes shares her experiences as a mother and founder of the Pride Road Franchise. Her story proves that you can have them both!

Listen Now!

Meet Lisa Raynes, the founder of Pride Road Franchise. Pride Road Franchise grew out of Lisa’s refusal to accept that there was only one way for a woman to have an architecture career and a family life. She built her practice in the domestic sector, and then invested to turn her business into one that other ambitious architects wanting a work/life balance can buy into. She’s had a seat on the RIBA Council from 2015 to 2018, been Chair of Women in Property North West, and founded Manchester Curious, an urban architecture outreach festival. Lisa is passionate about seeing other architects achieve their potential, particularly those who have left or are on the verge of leaving, the profession.

Season Finale Film review: Architecture in the Wake of a Pandemic

Season Finale Film review: Architecture in the Wake of a Pandemic

Hey everyone, the time has finally come! It's the final episode of the season but you knew we wouldn't leave it on a dry note.

This episode explores the film Inception, directed by Chris Nolan, a pioneer in the media and arts industry. If you haven't watched a Nolan film before, Inception should be your first! I think it's fair to say that this year has had its ups and downs, but what can we as designers and creators learn about architecture in the wake of a pandemic? Inspired by an architecture student, Ariadne in the film inception, we came up with creative solutions as to how we could do more, simply by digesting what has been previously. But is this a closed paradoxical loop?

Season 1 Episode 8: Mental Health in Architecture / Stress

Season 1 Episode 8: Mental Health in Architecture / Stress

Hey everyone, we're back with another episode but this time we are addressing the sensitive topic of mental health. Tired? Drained? Dehydrated? Sound familiar? Mental health comes in many different shapes and sizes and sometimes it isn't always distinguishable. In this episode, we address our personal experiences in architecture, how we experienced and dealt with our stresses and where we currently are now, post-graduation with our mental health.

If you are experiencing extreme levels of stress, please reach out to your friends, family or local GP, but most importantly do not deal with this alone. For our UK listeners, there are immediate helplines such as Samaritans (116123) who are a 24 hour suicide-prevention helpline.
