Episode 81: Aaron Stephens RADIO - Hard Times Straight Lines

Episode 81: Aaron Stephens RADIO - Hard Times Straight Lines

Episode 81: Aaron Stephens - Hard Times, Straight Lines RADIO Thanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media podcast, I am your host, Mario Zamarron. I’ve been holding on to this album for a while and finally decided it was time to put this out. With all of the plans I had made for episodes prior to this, I hadn’t gotten to this RADIO episode. So, without further ado, this is Aaron Stephens, a transplant from Illinois and most recently, from McAllen and now New Braunfels, our northern neighbor. Aaron’s really got a soulful record here, so if you’re into listening to music in the dark, with your eyes closed, do it. If you’re in your car, you have an excuse to listen to the episode twice. Just let the music take you through your own memories and feel the words. Just a suggestion in this world of hustle and bustle and no time to experience music on the same levels we did when we were kids. Aaron Stephens is a soul singer/songwriter and musician born in Illinois, raised deep down in McAllen, Texas. Writing songs, singing, and playing guitar since the age of 12, Stephens has an original songwriting and performing style that can both soothe and stir. Since 2012, Stephens has been playing shows all across Texas. With his soulful voice, songwriting, and tasteful slide guitar playing, Aaron Stephens and his tight, groove-based band are standing out and  gaining some momentum. On June 18, 2014, Aaron Stephens released his first full-length album entitled "Hard Times Straight Lines". The 9-song album is a perfect example of Aaron Stephens' music: honest, relatable and soulful. The album is available on all major online platforms. Visit www.aaronstephensmusic.com for more info! Episode 80: #LMW2016 Musician's Roundtable

Episode 80: #LMW2016 Musician's Roundtable Thanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media podcast, I am your host, Mario Zamarron. This is how we wanted to kick off Local Music Week; at 502 Bar, doing our first live podcast! Our speakers for the event were Daniel Magallanez (Blackbird Sing), Patric Farrell (Built For The Future), and Edward Welsh (Rumors) and our sound guy for the show was Joey Devine from 502 Bar. The point of the show was to start a discussion, shed some light on local music, and get some attention for local music. We discussed each individuals trials, tribulations, and celebrations they’ve had as local musicians, what some of their experiences have been, and what they think about the situation. We talk about cover prices, the cost of being a musician, venue location, venue sound, the concert goers, and the talent of the band. We also took some time to acknowledge the organizations in San Antonio that are available to local musicians; The Local 782, M.U.S.I.C. Project, San Antonio Local Music Guild, San Antonio Sound Garden, and others who help like Do210, The Owlcast, Vinyl Pizza, Texas Music Spotlight, and 210 Local Media. This is just the first of a series of discussions we plan on having as we work towards our mission of helping the local music scene thrive. We hope you join us on this voyage and invite you to also check out the resulting videos on our YouTube channel, at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC37uudJJ3iTcEnXISjXKSbA I could go on for a very long time about this topic, so if you liked it, please let us know on our Facebook page /210LocalMedia or on Twitter  @210LocalMedia. Episode 79: The Akuzma

Episode 79: The Akuzma

Episode 79: The Akuzma Thanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media podcast, I am your host, Mario Zamarron. In this episode, I sat down with the band I manage, The Akuzma, to talk about who they are, how they got to where they are, and all things Akuzma. The interview is from a while back, when we were planning to release their upcoming EP under the 210 banner. Unfortunately, we’ve had difficulties raising the necessary funds to put it out ourselves. Also, the band has undergone and is continuing to undergo changes to style and lineup. This in an introduction to what got the Akuzma to where they are today and a springboard to the foundation of the band. Once The Akuzma 3.0 emerges, we will definitely catch up with them. I could go on for a very long time about this topic, so if you liked it, please let us know on our Facebook page /210LocalMedia or on Twitter  @210LocalMedia. As always, thanks for listening! Episode 76 Terror Expo 2016 - It’s A Guy Thing Podcast TakeoverThanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media Podcast, I am your host, Mario Zamarron. This episode is long overdue for a few reasons; season 3 started in January, The Terror Expo was in January, and this episode is a takeover from my other podcast, It’s a Guy Thing Podcast. First of all, fair warning; there’s no music in this episode, there’s three guys who sound like morons, and hopefully you enjoy it.The guys take a brief walk on the floor of the 2016 Terror Expo and get a surprise guest drop in from a famous and former Walking Dead cast member Jose Cantillo - Walking Dead, Chappie, Elysium, Sons of Anarchy, Crank, Crank: High Voltage, Disturbia, and The Manchurian Candidate.I could go on for a very long time about this topic, so if you liked it, please let us know on our Facebook page /210LocalMedia or on Twitter  @210LocalMedia. Episode 75: Heather Go Psycho Radio - Favorite Record

Episode 75: Heather Go Psycho Radio - Favorite Record

Episode 75: Heather Go Psycho Radio - Favorite RecordThanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media podcast, I am your host, Mario Zamarron. I’ve been meaning to have Heather Go Psycho’s album Favorite Record on the show for a very long time. I’ve seen the girls a couple of times, but due to the circumstances of the night, was unable to introduce myself to them or anything. Luckily, thanks to Twitter, I was able to chat with Heather Go Psycho’s bassist, Diana. Here’s an update for those who haven’t heard yet, Diana is no longer the bands drummer. They’ve recently added an actual Heather to the line up! Kind of like when Donella Drive had Ella. I saw Heather Go Psycho, most recently at one of the Creative Creatures shows at Fitzgerald’s. They played right after The Black Market Club and before The Lost Project and The Sandworms. They put on a great show and brought a totally different vibe to that stage. I’m glad to finally add them as alumni to the 210 Local Media Podcast. First, we’ll dive into some music, and then I wanted to chat for a little bit.Heather Go Psycho - Favorite RecordFavorite RecordNothing MoreJust For TonightBack 2 YouNice Girls Finish LastThis ChristmasI just wanted to reach out to music fans, concert goers, and ask some questions of you all and share some insight that you may not hear everywhere. First, some information on the music industry I’ve learned. I admit though, that I am by no means a expert and am learning new things every day, so, be aware of that caveat. There are bands, solo artists, fans, talent buyers, venues, promoters, managers, labels, and there’s merch, distribution, contracts, emails, social media, draw, booking, and a whole slew of other things that have an impact in the music industry. There’s an interesting cycle that regular concertgoers don’t ever see, that includes all of the above. Once you’re walking up to the door of a venue, many things have happened to get what you’re about to see, to where it is at that very second. A band who has practiced countless hours, has either been approached by another band, a venue, a talent buyer (someone who works for the venue to books shows), or a promoter (someone who puts shows together with a secured date at the venue), or has reached out themselves, to play that night. Depending on the show, bands can get paid in many different ways. There’s the door split, in which each band is coming away with their equal cut of the money paid at the door. There’s the percentage of the bar, which usually denotes a free show, where the bands try and get as many people as possible in to the venue to drink, in the hopes that the percentage of the bar that they get paid from is decent. It’s also split with the other band(s) on the bill, and is usually around 10%-15% of the bar. That means, every dollar you spend, gets them $.10 to $.15. There’s the sought after guarantee, where a band can make (at least) their guaranteed amount. Sometimes this is a method of payment that works as an either/or with a guarantee. For example, the guarantee is either $100 or 15% of the bar, whichever is higher. Finally, there’s the pay-to-play or ticket selling method. There are so many variations of these methods, that I won’t go over them here, but feel free to look it up online. For a band to get onto a bill, they either need to know another band that will add them to their own show, make some contacts, have their booking agent (who gets a share of the bands cut from the gig), know a promoter (who’s take is also a portion of the night), or they sell tickets to get on the bill with national acts. There may or may not have been contracts, personnel changes, schedule changes at work to be sure all band members could make the show, band cancellations, or possibly even entire show cancellations…. All before you step foot into the venue. Also, I can’t forget the merch that the bands made to sell at the show, or the money that went into printing handbills or designing digital flyers. Does t

Episode 74: National Spotlight - Smoke Season

Episode 74: National Spotlight - Smoke SeasonThanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media podcast, I am your host, Mario Zamarron. We’ve done it. This is a first for the 210 Local Media Podcast, we’re featuring a band that’s not from San Antonio. They’re not even from Texas. This episode, we bring you Smoke Season. The reason we’re doing a whole episode for them, is because they will be at our own Jack’s Patio on Thursday… TOMORROW! They’ll be joining the stage with The Peach Kings and our own local band, Spell 27 at 7pm. Smoke Season’s PR rep Amanda reached out to us to see about getting some more attention for the show. After seeing Smoke Season’s music video for Ouroboros, I had to share them. Please check out the bands’ bio in our show notes and on our website, it’s simply too long to read here, but I guarantee it’s worth it. Smoke Season has joined my list of national bands to see, and thanks to Amanda, I’ll be there tomorrow night!Smoke Season is Gabrielle Wortman and Jason Rosen, an electronic-ethereal duo, that I can only describe as a soulful powerhouse of thumping beats and enthralling harmonies. They reflect a myriad of genres while sounding like the perfect baby of Moby and Tori Amos, but drenched in timeless musicality. We were given the option to play a couple of songs, or all of them, so we went all-in. However, if you want to experience “Ouroboros”, you should find and “Like” them on FaceBook at www.facebook.com/smokeseason. You can find them everywhere; iTunes, Spotify, Soundcloud, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and on their homepage, www.smokeseason.com. Without further ado, here’s Smoke Season.LooseBeesBadlandsSimmer DownOpaqueFools GoldOfficial Bio"Eerie roots rambles with more ethereal, electronic-pop interludes." - LA Weekly"The Black Keys heard through a cloud of marijuana smoke." - Los Angeles Magazine"Ethereal western soul" - Free Bike Valet"A cinematic approach to Americana" - Buzzbands LA"Simultaneously delicate and ethereal but warm and woodsy" - Salt Lake City WeeklyApril 2014 Artist of the Month - Deli Magazine Los AngelesSmoke Season was formed in early 2013 by Gabrielle Wortman and Jason Rosen. Combining their musical backgrounds, the duo created their own unique take on Americana, infusing folk with electronic undertones and rich vocal harmonies that has been steadily capturing the attention of fans and press since.  Smoke Season catapulted into must-know status during their impressive August residency at Los Angeles' acclaimed venue, the Echoplex.  Their performances were hailed in the press by LA Weekly ("Music Pick of the Week"), Los Angeles Magazine, LA Record, Buzzbands LA, Radio Free Silver Lake, Free Bike Valet, Grimy Goods and more.Their sophomore EP, Hot Coals Cold Souls, released July 29, 2014, has been gaining impressive traction in the press for its powerful mash-up of styles and refinement of their already unique sonic imprint.  Described as "pop, rock, electronic, Americana, and folk elements collide in an inspired way" (The Daily Album), the EP "pulls mood-building tricks from country, R&B, dancy indie, chillwave (the intro to “Opaque”) and more" (Independent Clauses).Smoke Season began in 2013 with a self-produced their debut EP, Signals, and self-directed music video for their first single, Soleil.  After being released in March 2013, the Signals EP went on to independently sell thousands of copies and garner critical acclaim.  Since then, Smoke Season has been steadily touring, showcasing their music around the country and most notably at Sundance Film Festival 2014, Noise Pop 2015, CMJ 2014, on AXS TV, Bite Size TV, Balcony TV, Afterbuzz TV, and more. Also, a special shoutout to Malissa Prevost for being our lone Patreon supporter. Episode 69: CovinaThanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media podcast, I am your host, Mario Zamarron. This episode, we delve into a new genre (interview wise), Hardcore. Our friends in Covina, Julian, Nate, and Joey, came by to discuss how they came to be, what got them here, and what the difference is between Metalcore, Hardcore. After the interview, stay tuned for the bands' first 3 songs on their self-titled EP, Covina. One thing I love about this podcast, is that when I interview people, it’s a great equalizer. Everyone is always super nice, down to earth, and generally hilarious to talk to. These guys are no exception. We’re sorry we missed Eric and Ray this time around, but hope to catch up with them soon! Episode 68: F.I.N. RADIO - Forever Is Never

Episode 68: F.I.N. RADIO - Forever Is NeverThanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media Podcast, I am your host, Mario Zamarron. For those who have been listening to the show for a while, you know I manage the band Slowlikefire. Two fifths of Slowlikefire used to be in Forever Is Never a.k.a. FIN, Jaime Monzon and David Monzon. I never got to hear them while they were an active band unfortunately, but this episode features their self titled album, Forever Is Never. If you’re local to the San Antonio, think back to Sin 13 and the heyday of The White Rabbit (now the Paper Tiger). For those who are familiar, this will bring back memories of those times and the rawness that can still be heard throughout San Antonio’s musical history. For those who are not familiar, we hope you like this look into the recent past and a part of what eventually became Slowlikefire. Today, we focus on FIN. Episode 67: The Cinderleaf RADIO - Avalanche

Episode 67: The Cinderleaf RADIO - AvalancheThanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media Podcast, I am your host, Mario Zamarron. Not many local bands can say that they’ve been around for twenty years, nor can most local bands say that they almost had record deals. The Cinderleaf can say both with pride. To be honest, since this podcast is all about music, art, film, food, and entertainment discovery, I don’t mind admitting that until recently, I hadn’t actually heard any of The Cinderleaf’s music. I had seen their name everywhere, sporadically throughout the past twenty years, but due to the way their name painted pictures in my mind, I was expecting more AFI meets Slipknot and less like The Cinderleaf. I recently got to see them perform “Is Electric No” in full at Rebar and was treated to some really great and self proclaimed Emo-Core. Afterwards, I got to meet the guys, who also treated fans to their “other” bands, The Cemetery Hips, and Cobra Cobra Come On Over. This week, we take a listen to The Cinderleaf’s 2005 release, Avalanche. Keep an eye on their Facebook page /TheCinderleaf and our website, 210LocalMedia.com for their upcoming show, featuring the album in full. Episode 66: Built For The Future - Interview

Episode 66: Built For The Future - Interview

Episode 66: Built For The Future - InterviewThanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media Podcast, I am your host, Mario Zamarron. First of all, go back and check out Episode 62: Built For The Future RADIO. I’m excited to bring a new genre into the podcast this week; ProgRock! If you’re not savvy, or a millennial, Prog can be exemplified in bands like Yes, Tears For Fears, Genesis, and Muse. Yeah, Muse. Some people characterize it as non-mainstream, super long songs, and experimental in design. By that definition, you can also add bands like Coheed and Cambria, The Mars Volta, and Tool, which many do. Basically, take everything you knew about Prog, or in most cases, didn’t know, and just throw it out the window. As far as myself, and many other do, call it Alternative Rock, even if just for the sake of giving it a listen. It’s largely popular overseas and popularized by the British, but essentially, it’s just music by people who are not Pop.In this episode, we bring you Built For The Future’s Patric Farrell who discusses his musical history, the journey of making this album, and finally making music with this partner in crime, Kenny Bisset. I also get to ask Patric about BFTF, having done something that local musicians have always wanted to do, in getting their music out to the world. In an extremely brief period of time, they’ve sold out of their initial release and have shipped the album all over the world. You can find them in a Facebook group page, called Built For The Future. With only 298 members, this tight knit group has devoured everything the San Antonio ‘Progsters’ have uploaded. We also discussed the fact that it took a couple of decades for them to accomplish what they couldn’t in their youth and have succeeded in doing what many would consider to be a backwards method. Huge thanks to Patric for letting me interview him and for signing my copy of Built For The Future. Again, go back to Episode 62 and take another listen.I know the guys will be sharing this on their group page, so; Hello to our overseas friends and new listeners to the podcast. I hope it’s to your liking, and I hope you check out some of the other amazing music San Antonio has to offer. Episode 65: Demitasse & Buttercup RADIO

Episode 65: Demitasse & Buttercup RADIO

Episode 65: Demitasse & Buttercup RADIOThanks for tuning in to 210 Local media Podcast, I am your host, Mario Zamarron. In this episode, I wanted to bring you some music from Demitasse and Buttercup. For those in “the know,” both are connected via Erik Sanden and Joe Reyes, and have been a staple of the scene for over 10 years. The bios for both bands are way too long for me to read here, so be sure to check out the show notes and their pages on FaceBook. Coming up first, we received a request from our friend Laura Marie, also a musician and friend of the podcast, to play Demitasse’s Comfy Coffins. So, diving right in, we’ll start with Comfy Coffins, Couples Therapy, Dear Diary, and Leave the House from Demitasse. After that, I’ll come back on to introduce Buttercup’s album, Captains Of Industry. That was Erik Sanden and Joe Reyes’ band, Demitasse. Now, we’ve got their other band, along with bass player, Odie. For Buttercup, I wanted to focus in on their album Captains of Industry. The track list from the album is as follows;Softest StrikeInstant Coffee Part 2Suffer (No More Pain)Flowers and ElephantsSun In The SkyIdentity TheftThanks for listening, and please take this opportunity to find our FaceBook page at Facebook.com/210LocalMedia and give us a like! Thanks for listening.Demitasse Bio: Demitasse is a two piece acoustic group. This is the side project for Erik Sanden and Joe Reyes of the Texas art rock band Buttercup. Singing at the very limits of their range, the band gets sherpa high, mixing melody, spoken word, and noise. The sound is somewhere between Simon and Garfunkel, Leonard Cohen, and the Beach Boys on a dark day. Or Elliott Smith on an extremely bright, sunny day. Or John Cage throwing his car keys at Yoko Ono.The band records under a strict series of self-imposed rules: their "Vow of Chastity." These guidelines forbid the use of metronomes, click tracks, auto tuning, and unwarranted studio trickery. Being a two piece, they always record together as a duo: so any overdubs are done two at a time, simultaneously -- drums and piano, for instance. They always begin each session singing the lead vocals and harmony together, while playing guitar, and then proceed to build the rest of the song. The live show is almost like beat era music: like two wide eyed, smiley poets, freaking out, but refusing to smash their guitars. Their set up is hyper minimal: two guitars, a drum, and an tiny plastic box. They've been able to travel to a gig on a tandem bicycle, or a scooter with a side car. They plan on touring the country one day in a Smart Car.Hoping to cure sadness with sadness, Demitasse offers catharsis with their upbeat/downbeat melancholy songs: where audience members leave changed, and smiling.Buttercup Bio - Buttercup, a life-affirming art-rock band from Texas, has written hundreds of original songs that NPR calls “jangly art rock for the left side of the brain.” Since 2004, the band has released 7 full length recordings and a DVD documentary. They have toured the US, and have shared the stage with Jonathan Richman, Elliott Smith, Rhett Miller (the Old 97s), Ian Moore, Jad Fair, The Apples in Stereo, Salim Nourallah, and Willie Nelson.Buttercup is a trio of distinct personalities: singer Erik Sanden, guitarist Joe Reyes and bassist odie. The three joined forces in 2003 and have remained the best of friends. In this way, Buttercup is a real band, like U2 or the Osmonds, with long term membership (original members) and a large body of work. Erik Sanden functions largely as a frontman: he is terribly handsome, nigh-literate and his humor tends towards the absurd. Joe Reyes is famous for his unwavering smile, generous nature and, oh yeah, for his Grammy. Odie, a Texas treasure, brings unconventional voicings, deep sartorial sense, and rock-and-roll-animal power both to the bass and to his cooking (he has been known to craft high quality sandwiches on stage).Buttercup’s live show blends visual art, performance art and insta

Episode 64: Levees Special Release 2

Episode 64: Levees Special Release 2

Episode 64: Levees Special Release 2Thanks for tuning in to 210 Local media Podcast, I am your host, Mario Zamarron. This is only the second special episode we’ve done and interestingly enough, it’s for the same band as the last one. To hear Levees first official release, go check out episode 53. Go ahead, I’ll wait. Good, so you’ve heard “Your Spell”. Now, you get to hear their second release, “In White”. Last episode, we really didn’t know much about these guys. Now, they have a bio:Transported from the swamps of New Orleans to the deserts of San Antonio, Levees is a band grown from the creative landscape of brothers Kyle and Kody Anderson. These brothers have been sonically journeying together ever since they picked up their first guitars, and now their music draws inspiration from the two worlds they have lived in, combining the dark, ghostly blues of Louisiana with the southwestern spirit of Texas, making music that calls to mind a cross between the White Stripes and The Doors. Kyle and Kody’s guitar work is enlivened by the driving drums of San Antonio native Skyler Ellis, a veteran of the local music scene, and the sturdy bass work of Matt Stieb, who is also a music journalist in San Antonio. Although Levees is first and foremost a rock and roll band, the group draws its inspiration from an array of musicians spanning decades of time, hoping to combine their various influences into a unique sound that is both accessible and boundary-breaking.Levees has been alive for less than a year, but they have already played numerous local shows, are beginning to tour Texas, have debuted their first single “Your Spell”, and are planning to release their first EP early this fall. During D0210’s Local Music Week, the group was selected as a favorite local band by San Antonio’s Tastemakers. Like the name implies, Levees is engineered of the earth, channeling the larger forces that run through the world. What they have captured is their own. It is dark, it is dreamy, and it is rising. They hope their music takes hold of your heart, inspires it into ecstasy, and makes your life a little better. They make their music for you.If you want to catch Levees in action, they will be playing playing a show on September 25th, this Friday, at the Do210 App Launch Party at 8pm at The Limelight here in San Antonio. If you’re on St. Mary’s strip that night and want to bounce back and forth between a couple of events, you can catch Slowlikefire the same night, at The Amp Room at 10pm, with our friends White Elefant and an Austin band, The Human Circuit. Episode 62: Built For The Future RADIO

Episode 62: Built For The Future RADIOThanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media Podcast, I am your host, Mario Zamarron. Before we dive into some amazing music, I wanted to mention something going down in San Antonio tomorrow night at the Alamo Draft House at 618 NW Loop 410. MUSIC Project is screening the documentary, “Alive Inside”, an uplifting cinematic exploration of music and the mind. Tickets are $5 and are available through Eventbright (http://www.eventbrite.com/e/alive-inside-screening-and-silent-auction-for-alzheimers-association-music-project-tickets-17853797188). There will also be a silent auction before the movie, which will be available for filmgoers and the lazy stay at home people as well. This is a great local organization that’s trying hard to make a difference in people’s lives and they are just about halfway sold out. Do me a favor and make sure they sell out, and be sure to check out the great items at auction. If you’re too young to know what ProgRock is, no biggie, we’ll just call this and alternative version of alternative rock. However, for those of you that are in the know, this show is especially for you. Patric Farrell and Kenny Bissett have recently released their full length album Chasing The Light to critical success globally. They’ve gotten the attention of the global Prog community and have taken it by storm. Locally though, we’re proud to bring you Built For The Future before anyone else. If you like what you hear, do me a favor and use social media to let local San Antonio college radio station KRTU know that you’d love to hear these guys on their show. In the meantime, keep your eyes and ears on the podcast for an interview coming soon. We really appreciate the feedback, and are hoping to expand our catalog of local music genres. With that being said, we also really need help. Right now, our iTunes data needs a lot more ratings and reviews. A goal we have for this show is to get into iTunes “New & Noteworthy” section and get even more listeners to the show. This means more San Antonio music being spread to the world and the chance that these listeners will visit Facebook pages, BandCamp sites, ReverbNation pages, etc. This could mean digital downloads, physical album sales, and merch sales. If you’ve got the chance to impact that for yourself, shouldn’t you? In the words of Jerry Maguire, “Help Me, Help You”. Episode 61: Bekah Kelso And The Fellas RADIO - No StrangerThanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media Podcast, I’m your host, Mario Zamarron. Before we dive into the reason you all tuned in, I wanted to talk about something that’s going to have an effect on live music ever so slightly north from San Antonio in a city called Cibolo. Nick Marquez, an avid music lover and business owner, will be opening a bar and live music venue called Old Main Ice House. We caught up with Nick at the 2015 Cibolo Food Truck Round-Up, hosted by Michael LaMonica and the city of Cibolo. Nick was awesome enough to sponsor the music that night, which included the Jesse Stratton Band, Storm Calysta, and Broken Duckfeet. Huge shout out to Michael and Nick for allowing us to suggest Storm Calysta. Just like I knew would happen, they we’re both very impressed, as was the crowd. A few different times, there were even a few people dancing! This event in Cibolo and the Old Main Ice House coming soon, in my opinion, will bridge a gap for local music in San Antonio to reach farther up North IH-35, towards Austin and vice versa. My hopes are that it will also open up the city of Cibolo to more local music appreciation. Here’s a brief interview I did with Nick about Old Main Ice House. Now, for what you’ve all been waiting for… Out of all of the people I’ve gotten to meet during my time doing the podcast, one stuck out to me as one of the nicest. Not only did she help us out for our 210 Toys For Tots charity concert at the 502 Bar, she’s also liked and shared our posts, and recently, listed us as someone to vote for in the San Antonio Current’s Music Awards for this year. Aside from being awesome in general, she also just had a baby! I won’t go into too much detail due to my belief in privacy, but Bekah, congrats on the birth of your beautiful baby, from your 210 Local Media family! Episode 60: Listeners Choice SUPERMIX

Thanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media Podcast, I’m your host, Mario Zamarron. I know most people celebrate 50 episodes, but we were in the middle of Local Music Week, and I didn’t want our milestone to overshadow the theme of the week. So, we’re doing it now. We’re celebrating 60 episodes. In less than 3 years, we’ve managed to develop a global audience, we’ve conducted 17 interviews, played over 30 episodes of almost pure music, played over 18 entire albums from beginning to end, we’ve done a benefit concert for Toys for Tots, we’ve attend the Alamo City ComicCon twice (soon to be thrice), we’ve been able to get media access to other events, and we've connected with so many musicians, artists, filmmakers, and entertainers. We’re so happy at what we’ve accomplished within 60 episodes, but like any artist, we’re hungry for more. Right now, we’re trying to at least make the top three finalists in the San Antonio Current’s Best of Music issue. We’ve conducted some more interviews and plan on even more moving into the next 60 episodes. We’ll soon launch our Patreon crowd funding page to help with the rising costs of being a podcaster and give people the opportunity to gain access to Patreon only content.Recently on Facebook, I asked for audience and music community feedback on who we should play on this 60th episode. Episode 57: Merilette Super-sized Episode (Part 1)Thanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media Podcast, I’m your host, Mario Zamarron. This episode, we have the first half of a two hour interview with our friend Merilette, which spans music, life, mental health, World of Warcraft, and a slew of other non-music related topics. The interview took place on my balcony, so every once in a while, you’ll hear birds chirping and even attacking. This was a truly fun interview and I hope you all enjoy this unique look into Merilette’s life and a little about my life too. Episode 53: Levees Special Release & Giveaway

Episode 53: Levees Special Release & Giveaway

Episode 53: Levees Special Release & GiveawayA month ago, I got to see a band opening for Lonely Horse at Sam’s Burger Joint that totally blew me away. I hadn’t heard of them prior to that event, and I found out later, that that night was actually the third time they had played in front of an audience. The band was Levees.Levees is Kody Anderson, Kyle Anderson, Skyler Ellis, and Matt Stieb. Right now, these guys are a bit of a mystery. They’re currently putting together a bio, but I can tell you this. These guys sound great live. I was really impressed with them, not like I’m the end all of tastemakers or anything, but, I really think they’re going to make a big splash locally and hopefully regionally and nationally. Thanks to Levees for hosting our first contest/promotion. Saturday, May 30th, Levees will be playing at the 502 Bar at 8pm. They will be playing with The Vegan Street Tacos, Colleens, and Michael J. and The Foxes to raise money for Michael J. and The Foxes debut full length album. As for the promotion, the first five people who go to the merch table and say “Rhino Pancakes” will get a T-Shirt for $5. That’s half off! This is open you, the listeners of this special episode. Once again, that’s “Rhino Pancakes” at the Levees merch table. Now it’s time for Levees track, “Your Spell”.You can contact us on Google Voicemail @ 210-802-1197, @ www.210LocalMedia.com/contactus, on Twitter: @210LocalMedia, on Facebook: /210LocalMedia & check out our main site @ www.210LM.comAs a member of the 210 Podcast Network, we are partially brought to you by Audible.com. Episode 52: #LMW2015 Mixed Tape Volume 3

Episode 52: #LMW2015 Mixed Tape Volume 3

Episode 52: #LMW2015 Mixed Tape Volume 3Thanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media Podcast and the last day of our Local Music Week 2015 episodes. This will be our last Mixed Tape for the Local Music Week series, but we will keep going mixed tape episodes in the future like we always have. Our first track is Slowlikefire’s “With Envy” from their new album City Of Echoes. These guys are primed for success. With that, for those who are not already following us on social media, you probably don’t know that 210 Local Music, a subsidiary of 210 Local Media, is now an indie record label and artist management company! I’m very excited to share that our first artist signing to our artist management division, is Slowlikefire. Slowlikefire recently signed with El Paso Indie Record label, DKD Records. We’re hoping this will bring more notice to Slowlikefire, DKD Records, and 210 Local Media and everyone we know and love. You can find Slowlikefire on www.slowlikefire.com, on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and pretty much all over our 210LocalMedia.com website. After that, we’re proud to bring you one of my favorite songs from Rumors, “Pillow”. Rumors recently parted ways with their singer and have started auditioning new singers during the last week or so. We here at 210 Local Media believe heavily in Rumors and ex-singer Michael Christopher’s side project, now full time project, You And I Under Water. Keep up with us as we follow both with their progress.Another of our favorites is Donella Drive, with another single off of their recent EP Anomalous, "Alone With The Devil”. We can’t say enough nice things about this band. They hugged me when we did their interview a couple of months ago, so that’s where the loyalty comes from. Be sure to follow them everywhere as /DonellaDrive or @DonellaDrive.You heard the second release from the hardest working band in Texas a couple of episodes, but now we”re bringing you The Heroine and a track off of their first full release with, “Ballad Of Lenny King”. Keep up with us and The Heroine, we’re hoping to nail down an interview soon!Next up, we’ve got our old friends, Hydra Melody and a song from their much anticipated next album. “Honey” has been out for a bit, but the guys are really keeping the new album under wraps. As soon as we hear more, we’ll let you know!If Hydra Melody had brothers in a different band, they would all be in The Sound Of Curves. We’ve played “Gone Gatsby” for you a few episodes ago, but we wanted to bring you their song “Rumors” today. These guys have a strong pop sensibility and we look forward to hearing more great music from them soon!I met our next musician at the first Local Music Week meeting and have kept up with her since. We’ve gotten an interview with her ready to go soon, so follow and subscribe so you don’t miss out. San Antonio’s own Merilette recently made a splash with her album release, Mindpaint at Jack’s Patio and has been non-stop since then. Here’s Merilette with her song, "Comfortable Love”.Our next musician is Storm Calysta with her track, “Hero”. I really think that this track could be on the relaunch of The Never Ending Story, should they ever do one. Finally, we leave you with a group of amazing musicians, Aliens WITH Halos and their song, "The Source”. We’ve been working on an “In The Studio With” episode and hope to have it out next month. Luckily, you get a little teaser since we’re going to cover this exact track. This is the last day of local Music Week and you can relive the week on social media if you use #LMW2015 Thanks to Local 782, SATX Music, and Do210 for being the primary organizers behind this years Local Music Week. Check out Do210.com for a very inclusive calendar of events for the local music in San Antonio, Texas. Next year, I’m hoping to not be sick at all and actually make it out to most of the events compared with none this year. Either way, thanks for listening and if I don’t die, we’ll see you here soon! You can contact us on Google Voicema

Episode 51: #LMW2015 The Akuzma RADIOThanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media Podcast and day six of our Local Music Week 2015 episodes. This episode is dedicated to our friends at The Akuzma. Recently, they won their way to the final two bands of a local Battle of the Bands competition, but despite their best efforts, didn’t get the win they were hoping for. Despite this, all of their close fans responded with nothing but support, reminding me of Spurs fans, so to our friends in the Akuzma, I say that you may have lost the battle, but you gained knowledge that your fans love you and support you, and there’s nothing more important than having a strong fan base. These guys represent the harder side of the local music scene, and I wanted to share them with you all. Episode 50: #LMW2015 Mixed Tape Volume 2

Episode 50: #LMW2015 Mixed Tape Volume 2Thanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media Podcast and day five of our Local Music Week 2015 episodes. This is our second mixed tape of the week and we wanted to mix in some old friends and some new friends.First up, we have some friends we recently reunited with at the Slowlikefire City Of Echoes Release show, Secrets & Irises with "Golden Circles" and Langton Drive with “0509". Right after that, we follow the punk vibe to some classic San Antonio punk, Nada Mas Basura with their self titled track. Up next, we’ve got some new friends we met up with at a Local Music Week meeting a few weeks ago, Days That End In Why and their song, "Trick Silver Linings". In true throwback Thursday fashion, we’ve got a band who is no longer in the San Antonio scene, but left it’s mark regardless, Viet Ruse with "Point Of View". Thanks to another Local Music Week meeting, I finally got to meet Nathan Alvarado from Remanon and wanted to play "Justice Paige". Even though we already played this song recently, they’ve got their show tonight and I just wanted to make it fresh for y’all. A last minute addition made it in with Fallout and their song "Hell To See". They’re having their first show as a band at Bond’s 007, tomorrow night! Up next, we’ve got The Native Roar and their track "Dangerous Ways". I totally dig their vibe, very tribal/alternative. Calming things down a little bit, is Dylan Tanner. I met Dylan at the first Local Music Week Meeting at Brick in The Blue Star Arts Complex and was immediately impressed, he’s a really nice guy and we’re proud to feature his lyrics on our site at www.210LocalMedia.com/lyrics There, you can find the lyrics to his song "Me". Last but not least, to continue the chill vibe, we’ve got Julian Gill. I met Julian a while back where he played a short opening spot set at Jack’s Patio and I think he’s another very talented young guy to keep an eye on. We’ve got his track, "Harder Than Wine".This is day five of local Music Week and there’s plenty more that you can find all over social media if you use #LMW2015 Thanks to Local 782, SATX Music, and Do210 for being the primary organizers behind this years Local Music Week. Episode 49: #LMW2015 The Heroine RADIO

Episode 49: #LMW2015 The Heroine RADIOThanks for tuning in to day four of our Local Music Week 2015 episodes.Well, it finally happened, we’re proud to bring you the hardest working band in San Antonio, The Heroine and their second release, Songs From The Southland Volume 1. Next month, we’ll be taking a trip back in time and bringing you their first full album release, Playing For Keeps. I’ve only seen The Heroine a couple of times, but both times, they were insane. The Heroine is 5 parts hair, 10 parts sweat, 20 parts good old southern rock, and a whole hell of a lotta showmanship. Frontman Lynwood Presley King and the rest of the band truly leave themselves on the stage each night and sometimes Lynwood will throw in a couple of sermons about pain, love, and joy. By the way, if they tell you to some closer to the stage, I’d leave at least 5 feet around them, or you’ll be likely to catch a flying mic stand to the head. However, if you do get hit, it’s rock and roll baby! This is day four of local Music Week and there’s plenty more that you can find all over social media if you use #LMW2015 Thanks to Local 782, SATX Music, and Do210 for being the primary organizers behind this years Local Music Week. Episode 48: #LMW2015 Fair Coyote RADIO

Episode 48: #LMW2015 Fair Coyote RADIOThanks for tuning in to day three of our Local Music Week 2015 episodes. This episode is another RADIO episode, this time for our friend Mauricio Vazquez, known to me as Fair Coyote. Fair Coyote’s music is a veritable plethora of sonic and aural soundscapes. There’s no tying him to a specific genre, although I hear Pink Floyd, tribal, and industrial influences throughout. He is a 23 year old multi-instrumentalist, born in Mexico City, but has transplanted to San Antonio. Right now, he’s been busy creating solo projects and has recently been collaborating with local filmmakers and musicians. Currently Fair Coyote is recording for "Paths" an EP that is set to be released in July. Episode 45: The Black Market Club RADIO

Episode 45: The Black Market Club RADIO

Episode 45: The Black Market Club RADIOThanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media Podcast, I’m your host, Mario Zamarron. I’ll start off by admitting that this episode is way overdue. They were one of the best interviews of season one, and are probably the band I’ve seen play the most, they are The Black Market Club. This album, Faults and Fractures and the interview were both with the previous lineup of TBMC. Now, They’ve brought in Ben Griffith on vocals and keys and Luciano Islas on the bass. The remaining members, include Zach Taylor on guitar, Andrew Bauer on guitar, and Austin Busbee on the drums. I’ve only see them play once with the new lineup, but I have to say that I’m truly impressed, and it’s great to see them set an example of a band who can go through such a dramatic change and still be able to move forward with such force. Again, this is the album, Faults & Fractures, which features their previous singer, Blake Cook, and previous bassist, Xavier Zevala. I love every song on this album, but the ultimate favorites are "Knock On My Door”, “Pieces”, and “Back To Chicago”.Track List:CastlesKnock On My DoorHouse Of CardsRebuildPiecesBack To ChicagoThe Infamous Death Of Mr. WhiteYou can find TBMC on Facebook.com/TheBlackMarketClub , Twitter @blackmarketclub , and Instagram @tbmc_sa Check out info on their upcoming Bad Habits Tour on each of those social media sites. You can contact us on Google Voicemail @ 210-802-1197, @ www.210LocalMedia.com/contactus, on Twitter: @210LocalMedia, on Facebook: /210LocalMedia & check out our main site @ www.210LM.comAs a member of the 210 Podcast Network, we are partially brought to you by Audible.com. Episode 43: In the Studio With Donella Drive - DeadmanThanks for tuning in to 210 Local Media Podcast, I’m your host, Mario Zamarron. This episode marks the first of a new series of episodes for 210 Local Media, our In The Studio With series. I mentioned this in a prior episode, but I wanted to mention it here as well. This series is inspired completely by Hrishikesh Hirway's podcast Song Exploder. We take a single track by a local musician and break it down to it’s isolated tracks and discuss it with the musician or band.In this premier episode, we’re guided by the members of Donella Drive through their track, Deadman off of their debut album, Anomalous.Donella Drive is:Ella Macias - VocalsAidan Escalante - GuitarAndrew Salazar - BassColt Wrangler Lyons - DrumsYou can find Donella Drive on:Facebook - (https://www.facebook.com/donelladrive)You can contact us on Google Voicemail @ 210-802-1197, @ www.210LocalMedia.com/contactus, on Twitter: @210LocalMedia, on Facebook: /210LocalMedia & check out our main site @ www.210LM.comAs a member of the 210 Podcast Network, we are partially brought to you by Audible.com. Episode 41: Donella Drive Live and Acoustic

Episode 41: Donella Drive Live and AcousticThis is our third “live from the board” episode, this time featuring Donella Drive. This was from the same show that Tera Ferna played a few episodes ago at Jack’s Patio. This is also the first time I got to hear Ella with the band for a live performance and I have to say, I was happy that I didn’t miss this show. This episode has about 30 minutes of music for your entertainment, starting with Donella Drive’s new single, “Deadman”, “808”, “Shadow People”, “Shipwrecked (Middle of Nowhere)”, (Mystery Track), and “Late Night”.Donella Drive is:Ella Macias - Vocals & MidriffAidan Escalante - Guitar & ComedyAndrew Salazar - Bass & The Serious Guy (not really)Colt Wrangler Lyons - Drums & Hard Working Man HandsThey’re currently gearing up to release their album Anomalous on April 25th at HiTones with The Heroine, Lonely Horse, and RMRS!Check out their home on our site at 210LocalMedia.com/DonellaDrive and keep an eye out for their lyrics on the site too!You can contact us on Google Voicemail @ 210-802-1197, @ www.210LocalMedia.com/contactus, on Twitter: @210LocalMedia, on Facebook: /210LocalMedia & check out our main site @ www.210LM.comAs a member of the 210 Podcast Network, we are partially brought to you by Audible.com. Episode 39: Hydramelody Live

Episode 39: Hydramelody Live

Episode 39: Hydramelody LiveHere’s our second “live from the board” episode, this time featuring friends of 210 and alum, Hydramelody. This was actually from January 23rd at Jack’s Patio. Due to having a pack full of dead batteries, I missed all but 4 of the songs that Hydramelody played that night. Luckily, you get to hear them!Huge shout out to Octahedron, who opened for Hydra that night and to whatever magician of a sound guy that Hydramelody brought in. I usually have issues when I want to record directly from the mixing console, but this sound guy said, plug in and we’ll get it done. I had planned on recording Octahedron, but it just didn’t seem to be in the cards this time. To make it up to you guys and to Octahedron, I plan on recording them very soon and hopefully adding an interview to that as well. I’m just sorry because you guys missed out on what was some really great music. Good things come to those who wait, so keep an eye out for Octahedron later this season.Next, Hydramelody prefaced their amazing show with a short documentary, “Ways To Go,” that followed the band as they recorded their newest album, hopefully due to be released very soon. After the documentary concluded, the audience was treated to an amazing light show, courtesy of Colorwave. This show, in my opinion, really threw down the gauntlet for other local musicians. This was a SHOW. Hydramelody recently returned from a tour with Third Eye Blind, and it looks like they picked up a few things while on the road. You can check out the live video I recorded of them playing "California" at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWOe74jFY4g&spfreload=10 In the meantime, here’s the five songs from that night. Honey, Sunsets, Caught in the Rain, and This Road, and from the video I recorded, California. Enjoy. Episode 38: Donella Drive

Episode 38: Donella Drive

Episode 38: Donella DriveFirst off, this is probably the most relaxed interview I’ve ever done. This isn’t a reflection on other bands, but primarily because I’ve talked with Drew and Aidan many times over the last few years about Donella Drive or seen them at other shows around town. This lends itself to the most in depth look at the individuals behind the music than ever before. I’ve been able to see this band move from being led by one female singer to becoming an instrumental band, and finally, full circle to another female singer. They’ve evolved, grown, and become one of my favorite local bands to experience live.Donella Drive is:Ella Macias - Vocals & MidriffAidan Escalante - Guitar & ComedyAndrew Salazar - Bass & The Serious Guy (not really)Colt Wrangler Lyons - Drums & Hard Working Man HandsThey’re currently gearing up to release their album Anomalous on April 25th at HiTones with The Heroine, Lonely Horse, and RMRS!Check out their home on our site at 210LocalMedia.com/DonellaDrive and keep an eye out for their lyrics on the site too!You can contact us on Google Voicemail @ 210-802-1197, @ www.210LocalMedia.com/contactus, on Twitter: @210LocalMedia, on Facebook: /210LocalMedia & check out our main site @ www.210LM.comAs a member of the 210 Podcast Network, we are partially brought to you by Audible.com. Episode 37: Blackbird Sing RADIOThanks for checking out episode 37 of 210 Local Media Podcast. We’re into episode 3 of the new season and we’re bringing back our RADIO episodes! Our first RADIO episode is from a local favorite, Blackbird Sing. I had heard about them playing shows around the area, from the Unavoidable Drudge podcast, and I happen to work with the drummer, Daniel! Blackbird Sing also happens to be our first band to provide their lyrics to help us premier our new www.210LocalMedia.com/Lyrics page! There’s not much on there yet, but they believed in our mission to create a local lyrics archive. We’ve also gotten Girl in a Coma added to, so please check out the page and you can even sing along with the episode if you’re not already familiar with this awesome Folk and Country/Rock band.Blackbird Sing is:Vito Salinas: Singer/Songwriter, GuitarGeorge Ransom: BassJames Magallanez: Guitar, Percussion, and HarmonicaDaniel Magallanez: DrumsAndy Salazar: Lead Guitar, Piano, and TrumpetThe album we’re playing is Enemies From Years of LovingYou can find their lyrics here: www.210LocalMusic.com/lyricsFinally, you can find their home on our website here: www.210LocalMusic.com/BlackBirdSingYou can contact us on Google Voicemail @ 210-802-1197, @ www.210LocalMedia.com/contactus, on Twitter: @210LocalMedia, on Facebook: /210LocalMedia & check out our main site @ www.210LM.comAs a member of the 210 Podcast Network, we are partially brought to you by Audible.com. Episode 36: Alamo City Comic Con 2014

Episode 36: Alamo City Comic Con 2014

Episode 36: Alamo City Comic Con 2014What a difference a year makes… Last year’s Comic Con was at least ten times more amazing than their inaugural opening in 2013. As a matter of fact, during the Con’s first year, they brought in over 35,000 visitors during the 3-day raid on the Convention Center. In 2014, that number skyrocketed to almost 80,000 and in some reports, as high as 100,000 people. This year, I got to spend more time enjoying the con rather than worrying about recording for the podcast, but luckily, that actually helped me relax and record probably the same amount as last year. First up, I was able to interview the owner of Bean Pot Toiz, Grego and their social media manager, Kaylah. We talked about the success of the collectibles market and how Bean Pot Toiz is different from other “toy” sellers. We also discuss their new project, Bean Creative, which is all about the customization of toys, vinyls, and other collectible items. Grego also discusses some possible future project to help fill the void that ArtSlam left and gearing it more towards vinyls and toys as the medium. Kaylah discusses the social media aspect of Bean Pot Toiz, the creation of the company, and we finally learn about the idea behind the name and the face on the Bean Pot can. Be sure to check out Bean Pot Toiz at www.beanpottoiz.com, on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter! Our next interview was with Aaron Casas of Casas Ink. He tells us about how he got started in the apparel business and talks about how limited the runs for each design really are. We discuss the tattoo and surreal inspirations behind the designs of his shirts and the fact that he’s only been doing this for a year and already has a booth at the Comic Con. I also find out what the mysterious Casas Ink monster is and what it means. You can see and buy Casas Ink’s shirts at www.casasink.com, on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter! The video of the interviews can also be found on YouTube! The rest of this episode includes portions of the panels at the Con. The first panel you’ll get to hear is George Takei and focuses on his Broadway musical, Allegiance. He takes various random questions from the audience and tells a hilarious story about his flight into San Antonio the prior day.Next, we have the King of Comics, Stan “The Man” Lee! One thing is true about Stan Lee, he is a character. Honestly though, he’s probably answered the same questions more times than anyone could count, so he keeps it interesting by playing the self-obsessed, DC hating, old guy, BUT we love him for it anyway. Finally, we conclude the episode with some of the Weird Science panel which included Anthony Michael Hall & Ilan Mitchell-Smith. The two discuss what it was like working with John Hughes, their favorite memories of working on the film, and Kelly LeBrock. It was great seeing these two together again but towards the end, I kinda felt sorry for Ilan, who, since he hasn’t been in Hollywood much since the 80’s and only had Weird Science, remained quiet as Hall was asked a ton of questions.I hope you all enjoyed this taste of the Comic Con from 2014 and maybe I’ll bump into you at 2015’s Con. Episode 35: Tera Ferna Live and Acoustic

Episode 35: Tera Ferna Live and Acoustic

Episode 35: Tera Ferna Live and AcousticThanks for coming back for season two of 210 Local Media Podcast and our first “record from the board” show with Tera Ferna at Jack’s Patio here in San Antonio, Texas. I’ve been holding on to this episode for a while due to some sound issues, but I think we’re all set at this point, plus I’ve been wanting to relaunch 210 once I had more content to roll out. With that being said, we will not return to a once a week release like we did for season one. Instead, I will keep to an episode every other week… at least. There may be some occasions to release more than one episode in a two week span, but I’d rather just guarantee every other week for now. This episode was recorded at Jack’s Patio in 2014 and is Tera Ferna’s first live and acoustic show. Huge thanks and shoutout to the band for allowing us to record the show and share it with you here. Another shoutout to the sound guy at Jack’s (although I don’t think they’ve got the same guy anymore). This was a great live show which included some old favorites, new favorites, and never before played tunes. This will also culminate in the bands soon-to-be released new album. Keep listening for more details as they come. It’s great to be back and I can’t wait to bring you more great local music and hopefully some new things for 210.You can contact us on Google Voicemail @ 210-802-1197, @ www.210LocalMedia.com/contactus, on Twitter: @210LocalMedia, on Facebook: /210LocalMedia & check out our main site @ www.210LM.comAs a member of the 210 Podcast Network, we are partially brought to you by Audible.com. Episode 34: Season 1 Finale

Episode 34: Season 1 Finale

Episode 34: Season 1 Finale Well, I finally got around to putting out an episode that we will call our season 1 finale. For those who follow us on Twitter and Facebook, you know that I’ve been really sick for the last few weeks and unable to make an episode. With my illness effecting everything, especially my family, I’ve decided that 210 will be a seasonal podcast. I only plan on taking a month or two off, but don’t worry, I’ll also be using that time to knock out some interviews, get a hold of more music, and gather more amazing and new types of content for you. With that being said, This episode is a mixture of previously unreleased interview moments that I found kinda fun, as well as some music. First up, I wanted to share some of the beginning recording of the interview I did with The Black Market Club. I figure this will give you some more fun tidbits of their personalities and mine. We’ll talk about ears of corn, John Wayne, my backup mics, and a minor sound check. Next up, I’ve got some bonus interview stuff with Jenn Alva, artist and bass player from Girl in a Coma. We talk bananas, a mutual friend, and her sense of humor. My favorite tattoo artist, Tara Quinn and I started recording way before what ended up on the podcast episode. We talk about Medina Valley High School, a dead body, Action Figures, Sci-fi, her family, and our old neighborhood. One of the coolest things I did this season was attend the Alamo City ComicCon and I got to meet the only person that stretches themselves out even more than I do, Joseph Devine. After that, I’ve also included the other interview from the Con, with Justice in the Capitol. These guys run a live podcast on Mixler that’s all about Tokusatsu. Here are both interviews that I previously released on our ComicCon episode, #21. Finally, we’ve got our music portion of the podcast. My favorite thing about this season was getting to have bands play private concerts for me and bringing them to you. First up, we’ve got Tera Ferna’s Matthew Charles and Brandon Kent playing two previously unreleased songs, "Volition" and "Too Far To See”. The next two songs are from The Black Market Club’s episode, #30. They played "Don Pablo” which is previously unreleased and “Back To Chicago” off of their EP “Faults and Fractures”. Last but not least, we were just given Donella Drives new mix of their song “Minus Marley” which features their brand new singer, Ella Macias. I totally dig it and can hear quite a bit of potential from Ella. Look for an interview with Donella Drive in the beginning of season 2 of the 210 Local Media Podcast. One last announcement, 210 Local Media is now officially a podcast network! Look for our new partner podcast, It’s a Guy Thing Podcast coming soon at www.itsaguythingpodcast.com . Episode 33: San Antonio Women of Rock Volume 2

Episode 33: San Antonio Women of Rock Volume 2

Episode 33: San Antonio Women of Rock Volume 2For those who’ve been listening, thanks a ton and welcome back. For those who are joining us for the first time, welcome to the podcast where you can enjoy what San Antonio has to offer. We’ve largely been focused on music, but we also enjoy bringing you art, film, and various forms of entertainment in and around the greater San Antonio area. Take a listen to our back catalogue for tons of interviews and amazing indie music, as well as our San Antonio Women of Rock episode, #31. This is the second part or volume 2 of that episode, but the term ‘rock’ is being used loosely since we’ve got some country, folk, and indie tunes. Let’s dive right in!Bekah Kelso, ReverbNation’s #7 on the Pop/Indie/Soul-Folk Bohemian chart and San Antonio Current’s 2013 winner for Best Singer Songwriter and Best Song. She reminds me of the best of KT Tunstall, Poe, and Tracy Bonham. Bekah was amazing at our 210 Toys for Tots charity event and is someone I’m really hoping to work with again soon. Here’s the lovely Bekah Kelso with Grey’s Not Easy.Bonnie Lang is ranked #5 on ReverbNation’s Americana/Blues/Classic Rock/Texas Music chart, and has really been our token country singer on the podcast. I know her personally and hope to have her on the show soon. She can always be heard at Stone Works, Bobby J’s and several other San Antonio locales. Here’s Bonnie Lang with Desperate. As far as the podcast, you might remember Erica Swan as being the founder of Love in Rome from episode #9, but like a rolling stone, she’s gone on to start a new project, Ila Minori. Erica has music in her soul and exudes a soothing and intriguing shoe gaze sound, akin to Mazzy Star. Her ability to find musical inspiration everywhere, makes her one of the most prolific songstress’ of our city. She also donated her time and performed for the 210 Toys for Tots charity show as well. Here’s Ila Minor with Ivory Lounge.Another 210 Alum, Laura Marie, who also played the 210 Toys for Tots show, is someone you should definitely keep your eye on. She is ranked #1 on ReverbNation’s Singer Songwriter/Folk/Pop charts and is always busy working on new music. Here’s Laura Marie with Lunatic Moon.Even though the March Divide is usually vocal led by Jared Putnam, I wanted to showcase the work of fellow bandmate, Laura Wheeler. Although not a permanent member of The March Divide, who is really Jared, Mike Hernandez on drums, and Patrick Reetz on bass, I really enjoy the songs featuring Laura’s voice. From Their Music for Film album, here’s The March Divide with Pick Me Up.Finally, I’m proud to introduce Our Divine Romance. Ranked #10 on ReverbNation’s Alternative/Singer Songwriter chart, Suzy Martinez heads ODR. Although Suzy is currently out of town attending school, she’s released a couple of tracks from a future release, which have left me wanting to hear more. Here’s Our Divine Romance with As Winter Stays.Track List:Bekah Kelso - Grey’s Not EasyBonnie Lang - DesperateIla Minori - Ivory LoungeLaura Marie - Lunatic MoonMarch Divide - Pick Me UpOur Divine Romance - As Winter Stays Let us know what you thought of the episode or the individual bands on the episode by leaving us a voicemail at (210)802-1197, or find us on Twitter and Facebook at 210 Local Media. 3This episode is brought to you by Audible.com. Episode 32: San Antonio Gaelic Athletics Club

Episode 32: San Antonio Gaelic Athletics Club

Episode 32: San Antonio Gaelic Athletic ClubThis week, we step into our general entertainment segment by speaking with a player and the Public Relations Officer of the San Antonio Gaelic Athletic Club, and my best friend, Rick Ortiz. For those who are unfamiliar, Gaelic refers to Irish and Scottish generally and in this case, the sports that were born in Scotland and Ireland. In this case, we’re going to focus on Irish Football, but there’s also a sport called Hurling, that I’m particularly fond of.Rick and I talk about the Gaelic culture here in San Antonio, the sports, the language, and all of the things that not only make us proud of our Irish and Scottish brothers, but of our own heritage. Towards the end of the episode, we dive right into music specifically, as well as the music of the local scene.Important Dates:This Saturday, February 15th, catch the San Patricios vs Irish Citizen Army FOR FREE at The University of The Incarnate Word Soccer Fields at 4301 Broadway. Irish Heritage Day is on February 23rd. SAGAC vs Neasden GAA from London will be at on February 28th. On March 8th, SAGAC will play HGAC Houston Gaels.Let us know what you thought of the episode or the San Antonio Gaelic Athletic Club by leaving us a voicemail at (210)802-1197, or find us on Twitter and Facebook at 210 Local Media. Episode 31: San Antonio Women of Rock Volume 1

Episode 31: San Antonio Women of Rock Volume 1

Episode 31: San Antonio Women of Rock Volume 1This episode, we’re focusing on some great San Antonio bands with female vocalists. Huge shout out to Nina Diaz of Girl in a Coma who’s already in the studio recording her solo album and another shout out to Phanie and Jenn from Girl in a Coma for starting their riot girl side project, Fea. This doesn’t mean the band’s breaking up, just exploring new things. Honestly, I’m hopeful in the idea that this means that they’re using these projects to work things out creatively and return to Girl in a Coma refreshed and raring to go. Now, I’ve got to apologize that there won’t be any GIAC songs in this episode, but I don’t have any releases to play them on the show. It seems to me that when a band is on a label, it makes it that much more difficult to work with them. This isn’t a reflection on the band, just the process and red tape that comes with dealing with legal entities and people who are trying to watch their backs and are being use to getting taken advantage of. I’m planning on trying to work with the Girls during their time in these side projects, which are unrelated to GIAC, which means they are independent from any label or record exec issues. I know the girls would be down, they’re really down to earth and want what every other musician wants, to be heard.I know I’ve been saying this for almost a month now, but the changes that are coming are still moving along very slowly. No biggie though, it just means I can build up the excitement for when it does happen. One thing that might start happening that I haven’t mentioned are on air song or album reviews. Look forward to those sooner rather than later.Let’s get to the music now! We’ve got:Bite Lip Bleed - #16 on ReverbNation’s Indie/Ska/Punk chart, sounds like No Doubt. Featuring Jen Cavazos - Vocals, Robert Binovi – Drums, Jeremy Garza – Saxophone, Nick Valdez – Bass, Juan Luna – Guitar, Gilbert Covarrubias – Trombone, &  Laith Garet Fisk – Trumpet. Our photographer friend, RD totally digs this band, as do I. Here’s their song Alcohol.Celeste’al Descent - #10 on ReverbNation’s Alternative/Alt. Rock/Pop Punk chart, featuring Celeste Nichole Munoz (Lead Vocalist), Isaac Isaiah Alvarez (Guitar), Josue Jimenez (Drums) and Corbin Beltran on Bass. This band has been requested the most out of any band for being spotlighted on the show via Twitter and Facebook. Here’s Celeste’al Descent with Mind Over Heart.Langton Drive - #4 on ReverbNation’s Indie/Rock/Queer Rock chart, featuring Jessie Riot - Vocals, Christine Rebel - Drums, Jes DeGeneres - Bass, and their new Guitarist, Jessica Perry. These ladies helped us out by killing it for the 210 Toys for Tots show in December last year and are a great group of ladies. It was really great getting to meet them and work with them. Here’s their eponymous track, Langton Drive!Octahedron - ReverbNation’s #1 on the Indie/Alternative chart, Octahedron features Elena Lopez - vocals, Ruben Lopez - bass, Austin Jimison - Guitar, and Daniel Puente - Drums. They’re currently looking to record their debut album and I was able to hook them up with a spot opening up with 210 favorite Slowlikefire about a month ago. Look for some more great shows with these guys.
