We're finally here. Cribbs and Talica reflect on the last four years since the creation of their podcast and thank their listeners for their support and what lies ahead for your 2 favourite Brownish girls.

S5 E11 - The Veiqia Poject
The Veiqia Project is a creative research project inspired by the practice of Fijian female tattooing of veiqia.
In 2015 a group of Fijian women based in New Zealand and Australia were brought together to create new works for an exhibition inspired by veiqia (Fijian female tattoo), a practice that was stopped from around the mid-19th century and conducted in secrecy up to the early 20th century.
The project involved an online research forum and time spent with Fijian collections in Fiji and New Zealand museums. The exhibition took place at ST PAUL St Gallery in March 2016 for the Auckland Arts Festival and coincided with the PAA XII International Symposium.
Four years after their creation - on the 27th April 2019, The Veiqia Project held an event on Dhawaral country at Campbelltown Arts Centre called 'Solevu' - a full day of delicious lovo-making (Fijian earth oven), workshops and talanoa to celebrate the last 18 months of cross-generational Era Yalovata Na Marama program.
And due to this event, which Cribbs came across and invited Talica....The 2 Brownish Girls podcast was born. Join Cribbs & Talica and members of The Veiqia Project, Donita, Luisa and Margaret for great interview.

Cribbs and Talica interview long time friend of the podcast - Pasepa, an Environmental Science major from Macquarie University, who has worked previously in Ecological Restoration. But she is not just a Scientist, she is a multi-faceted Baddie who has made her debut as a 007 in this year’s West Ball 4, hosted by Father Xander Silky and previous 2 Brownish Girls guest, Jamaica Moana, modeled in campaigns such as Light Speech in Issue 5 for Astrophe Magazine and alongside with another previous 2 Brownish Girls guest, Isaac Nasedra organized the 2021 Fiji COVID Relief Mask drive for Fiji. The girls discuss her origin story, Science and Creative endeavours and the differences between Fijians in the Mother Country and Fijians in the diaspora.

We're half way through the final season of the 2 Brownish Girls podcast and what a better way yet to celebrate this final season by interviewing friends and siblings, sisters Kalo and Hope. Born in New Zealand and raised in South West Sydney, these two are creative heatwaves in Sydney's creative spaces. Kalo is known for her iconic style and styling talent, acting, modeling and her creative direction. She has worked as the Creative Director for Naarm based Isle Magazine’s ‘Class of 2020’ photoshoot with Melbourne native and previous 2 Brownish Girls guest, Aysha Nanai-Leififi aka Mrs Fallback. She has also worked as a costume designer for short films Before 8AM and Polinesia by Pelesasa Pictures, run by previous 2 Brownish Girls guest Fia Pelesasa. Hope is a budding creative/illustrator/designer based in Western Sydney who, whether it’s from an analytical or artistic standpoint, she loves to ideate and create and help people execute their creative visions. Describing her creative process as “Hands on, meticulous and fulfilling.” a 2022 graduate of D&AD Shift (Design and Art Direction Shift). She has also facilitated graphic illustration workshops with the Powerhouse Museum and TAFE NSW. Talica is joined by her brother Mo and friends of the podcast, sisters Allua and Lili to discuss one of their favourite topics ever - K-pop, specifically discussing the correlation between Korean pop music and Pacific Islanders, with a lot of our community being K-pop stans and also famous Pasifika dance choreographers such as Parris Goebel who have worked with Big Bang, 2NE1, CL and Taeyang and Sienna Lalau who has worked with BTS. We discuss the positive impact K-pop has had in our lives, our earliest memories of it, our favourite groups and choreography and also if we were idols, which agency would we sign with. Welcome back to Season 5 of 2 Brownish Girls, the farewell tour and I am one of your hosts, Cribbs. Happy Gregorian New Year, Lunar New Year and of course, happy 1st episode of the season! It’s great to be back and we hope that you’ve been enjoying some sort of a break or celebrating in the festivities with your loved ones!
For the very very first episode, I am joined by someone special in my life and who naturally had the pleasure of co-creating Cribbs herself, and therefore co-creating 2 Brownish Girls, it is none other than my Dad, Father Cribbs also Sonny. Here we spent a sunny summer afternoon just chatting, and getting to learn about my Dad, alongside me as there’s a few things I didn’t know!
Also just want to apologise for the super echoeyness that you hear when I speak…it’s giving, amateur editor and recording out of a phone and a microphone vibe but I really enjoyed this short talk and I hope this sparks more conversations with your parents while they’re still here. I am so grateful to share this space, that is the podcast that I hold so dear to my heart and to hear him speak about his life.

Welcome to a bonus episode of 2 Brownish Girls where we have a great talanoa with Matavai Pacific Cultural Arts' Moemōana Schwenke and Pelesasa Pictures' Taofia Pelesasa about 'Motu of Western Sydney' and their dedication and determination in keeping Pacific Islander storytelling alive with their creative endeavours and the importance of resilience and staying true to yourself.
‘Motu of Western Sydney’ is produced by Maryjane and Fred Schwenke of Matavai Pacific Cultural Arts and directed and written by Moemōana Schwenke and Taofia Pelesasa. This production was created thanks to a partnership between Sydney’s premiere Pacific Islands cultural centre, Matavai Pacific Cultural Arts and Pelesasa Pictures.
The production is described as ‘A communal voice of the Pacific Islands communities of Australia, showcasing theatre, dance, music and other creative arts - all streamed through the eyes of Pasifika-Western Sydney. The production will encompass all the beautiful things about our communities, whilst still having the ability to hold a mirror up to ourselves and the wider Australian communities and our calls for change.’
Motu of Western Sydney will be at The Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre in Penrith in the evening on Friday 15th July and Saturday 16th of July 2022. There will be a special matinee performance for youth on the morning of Saturday 16th July 2022. Tickets available here at The Joan's website.

This topic was initially recommended to us in May 2019 with the original tweet from @Zahratonin stating “Brown girls should not have to decide between leaving their families for independence or compromising their happiness to appease their families.”
WOW, this is such a loaded statement not just for Pasifika, but also maybe even cultures that have strong religious beliefs with traditionally conservative values. We also wanted to take the moment to mention this discussion will be from the cis-hetero perspective as Pasifika women and that we acknowledge Samoa’s third and fourth gender, fa’afafine and fa’afatama who both have integral roles in a Samoan household from pre-colonisation, up until this day.

The man of many beanies, Sione, joins us to discuss his journey as part of the Pasifika diaspora, his many lives in different creative scenes and what Pasifika representation means to him. From leaving his 'boring office job' in 2020 aka peak 'Rona times, he finds himself launching his first ever tv series.
