3 Priests Walk in a Bar

Folks it's time to admit it. Life has gotten crazy. Between the demands of church and home (except for Fr. Nik, who we know doesn't really work), we've come to the decision that, at least for right now, a pint should be shared among friends without the pressure making sure everyone else can hear it.

We've grown to love you all, and by you all we mean the 8 consistent listeners. But it isn't goodbye; if time allows, we'll pop into your feeds for the occasional conversation/roast.

But for now, we must tend to our gardens. We will see you all later!

Money makes the world go round, and Jesus certainly had plenty to say about it. But what does the church have to say about it in light of what He said? Life is complicated, but spending a few bucks on a beer and listening to your clerics talk about your financial decisions is a no brainer.

Back after three whole years, the clerical errors are back hosting live events! We gathered at the site of our last live event before the world shut down to pick up right where we left off: not taking ourselves seriously and a lot of butt jokes. Tune as we tackle the problem of evil one glass at a time.

Somehow we were able to get together and record in person! Today we brave the traffic of I-95 to venture out into the Badlands of Fredericksburg to an oasis known as Haley’s Honey Meadery. We sit down with the owner and talk about everything from bee-keeping, to mead-making, to how to open a winery, as well as Legos for some reason. And we also talk about the hypostatic union a little bit at the end there. Laughs to be had and mead to be drunk in this episode.

Well posing a new episode for Season 3 didn't go as planned. But we're here! And this is the reason it took so long, your Sweet Baby host got hitched to Mrs. Sweet Baby Host, but not before getting some wise words from his three dads on the sacred bond of marriage. After a long winter's hibernation, your three priests have emerged possibly even less enlightened than they were before. You figure priests might have something important to say about spirits and ghosts and things of that nature, and I’m sure our priests do. But the question remains if your host can keep their train of thought long enough to get their thoughts out on a recording. Everyone has misconceptions about something, and misconceptions about our priests are no exception. We've all heard stories about Martin Luther, but how many of them are true? We've heard that the Orthodox are these weird people off in the East somewhere, but is that true? Or are they weird everywhere? And lastly, we've definitely heard stories about Henry VIII, but to what lengths will Fr. Nik go to defend his opinion that he really was the kinda guy you could see yourself getting a beer with? The feeling of fall is in the air, and consequently, the Fall of Man is on our minds. What does it mean to speak of man as fallen? And when we speak of our fallenness, what exactly does that mean? And what sort of emphasis should we put on it? One of guilt? One of shame? And what does our fallenness reveal about the character of God? Some have said His wrath, but what about His love? Hear ye, hear ye! But what are we hearing? Our 3 clerical error attempt today to delve into the topic of discerning the Spirit’s voice in our lives. If and when the Spirit does speak to us, how do we discern that it is truly the Spirit that’s the one speaking? Many of us have felt like we’ve had multiple competing voices in our hearts telling us what to do and what to think, but if the Spirit of God is speaking to us in the midst of all of that, how do we discern which one is His? The Word is the Word. But how? Today we get a little headier in our subject matter as we explore the relationship between Jesus as the Living Word of God and Scripture as the written Word of God. We don't have nearly enough time to flesh out this topic in its entirety, much to Father Nik's disappointment, but we do have just enough time to prove that once again if there exists any controversy, it's certainly not reaching any resolution here.

After a brief vacation certainly not brought on by the host's forgetfulness, our clerics are back so share a little bit more about themselves. This episode's topic is brought to you by Fr. Mother Mary, the Virgin Mary, Blessed Mary, Blessed Virgin Mother Mary, she's known by many different titles. Perhaps no figure is quite as controversial in the Western church than the Mother of God. Many folks claim too much emphasis is put on Mary, but others say not enough. So what is it about Mary that gets people so worked up? Our clerics come together today to offer you a conversation with absolutely no resolution to this issue and several well intentioned rabbit trails as well. 

The Creeds are those defining statements of core orthodox (small "o") Christian belief. They represent what the Church has believed, does believe, and should always believe as the foundational statements to our faith. But of course there's always some bones to pick among our three clerics. Do we use the creeds in liturgy? If so, how? What are their relationship to Scripture? And will Fr. Adam's goats make another appearance? So if words like "Athanasian" or "Niceno-Constantinopolitan" make you feel like asking the bartender for another round, then this episode is for you. If the first thing you thought of when you read the word "Creed" is Creed Bratton, then you might need this episode more than the rest of us. 

Today our priestly beer connoisseurs talk about the bread and wine. Is it just bread and wine? Or is it something more? Do we dare get into the waters of transubstantiation? There's a big elephant in the room that has pushed most of us indoors and our priests (and your host) online. In this second Zoom edition of the show, we discuss the Church's response to the coronavirus, some general concerns that the pandemic is bringing, as well as each priest's individual congregational response. 

From episode one, Father Adam has shuddered at the mere mention of the word, and we've finally given him the space he deserves to tell not only Nik and Lou why they're wrong, but also an entire live audience.
