The Last Supper: Ta Ta for Now
Folks it's time to admit it. Life has gotten crazy. Between the demands of church and home (except for Fr. Nik, who we know doesn't really work), we've come to the decision that, at least for right now, a pint should be shared among friends without the pressure making sure everyone else can hear it.
We've grown to love you all, and by you all we mean the 8 consistent listeners. But it isn't goodbye; if time allows, we'll pop into your feeds for the occasional conversation/roast.
But for now, we must tend to our gardens. We will see you all later!
3 Priests LIVE: If I were a Rich Man
Money makes the world go round, and Jesus certainly had plenty to say about it. But what does the church have to say about it in light of what He said? Life is complicated, but spending a few bucks on a beer and listening to your clerics talk about your financial decisions is a no brainer.
3 Priests LIVE - The Problem of Evil
Back after three whole years, the clerical errors are back hosting live events! We gathered at the site of our last live event before the world shut down to pick up right where we left off: not taking ourselves seriously and a lot of butt jokes. Tune as we tackle the problem of evil one glass at a time.
3 Priests LIVE from Zoom: Did Jesus Fart? (The Chr-Easter Special)
We're getting back into the rhythm of things, but until we find a venue that will risk its health and safety host us, we're hopping back around the virtual kids table for a live gathering, asking the hard questions: Did Jesus Fart? The Miracle and Mystery of the Incarnation
Special Crossover: "Come Pray with Me" with Sarah Walsh
The boys are back in town. Well, actually we're in a different town. Join us for this special crossover episode with Sarah Walsh of "Come Pray with Me," and maybe we'll figure out how to pray with each other while we pray with Sarah.
S3, E3: Meads, Bees, and Hypostases
Somehow we were able to get together and record in person! Today we brave the traffic of I-95 to venture out into the Badlands of Fredericksburg to an oasis known as Haley’s Honey Meadery. We sit down with the owner and talk about everything from bee-keeping, to mead-making, to how to open a winery, as well as Legos for some reason. And we also talk about the hypostatic union a little bit at the end there. Laughs to be had and mead to be drunk in this episode.
S3, E2: Sweet Baby Marriage Counseling
Well posing a new episode for Season 3 didn't go as planned. But we're here! And this is the reason it took so long, your Sweet Baby host got hitched to Mrs. Sweet Baby Host, but not before getting some wise words from his three dads on the sacred bond of marriage. Tune in for the most inconsequential pre-marital counseling session you've ever heard!
S3, E1: Lent for Dummies
After a long winter's hibernation, your three priests have emerged possibly even less enlightened than they were before. Today your clerics and sweet baby host gather around the virtual kids table to discuss that rousing topic of Lent. Now, for most of us Lent may not be the most exciting time of year in the Church calendar, but you've definitely never heard a Lent where a Lutheran pastor shouts "Anathema!" to an Episcopal priest over a smudge. All this and more in this season premier of 3 Priests Walk in a Bar.
S2,E9: Finale
To be honest, much like most of the episodes, this one was pretty chaotic. From recording mishaps to all kinds of weirdness, this is peak 3 Priests.
This episode is dedicated to the memory of Mac McAlister, the first ever attendee of anything 3 priests related, and a good friend to many. Rest in Peace, Mac. We will see you again.
S2, E8: "Go Ye Into (the New) World"
As our Savior said, "Go ye into all the world..." We figured that means breweries too. Today your clerics and sweet baby host come to you live(ish) once again from Fredericksburg, VA. With Thanksgiving coming up, we thought we would rewind the clock to tell each other how our traditions got to put down roots in America. Did the Orthodox actually get here first? What actually is lutefisk? And did the Episcopal Church get its name from the devil himself? All this and more laughs than we could actually handle on today's episode.
S2, E7: From The Archives: 3 Priests LIVE, "Don't Fear the Reaper"
A long time ago in a coffeeshop far far away...
Today we are digging into the archives to bring you a tried and true 3 Priests live event from yesteryear. Recorded in May 2019, this event found our clerics waxing eloquent on death and dying. Featuring some candid discussions about poop and Schleiermacher, St. John Chrysostom plagiarizing St. Paul, and a special guest, if the episode itself doesn't kill you, well, at least you'll be more prepared.
Our guest is Alane Miles. She has served since the '90s as a hospice chaplain in the Richmond and Petersburg areas. She also serves as the host of Death Club Radio, currently on hiatus. "Death Club Radio explores the ins, outs, ups and downs of death and dying, demystifying this universal human experience." It premiered on WRIR in Richmond, and episodes are still available for streaming here:
S2, E6: I Got Rhythm, I Got Jesus (Who could ask for anything more?)
We're back after a small hiatus in person for recordings! And today's episode has plenty to keep you engaged the whole time.
Music has long been an essential part of the Church's times of corporate worship, so how do our three priests's traditions stack up against each other? Why would a prodigy musician not want music in church? What else besides music scares the devil away? And how is Fr. Adam's liturgy like a Britney Spears concert? All this and more on this episode!
S2, E5: The Truth is Out There
and so are we. Today you clerical errors and Sweet Baby host boldly venture where no man has ever gone before, and for good reason. In today's topic we make no new progress on the question of what should Christians think about aliens? Are they friend or foe? Should we concern ourselves with whether they exist or not? How can Fr. Adam go between mounting the laser cannons in defense of Earth and wanting to baptize all these visitors of the third kind? All this and a poor editing job on this episode!
S2, E4: Jesus, Save Us
...but from what? We discuss :)
S2, E3: Faith Alone (?)
Is faith alone a biblical concept? What does it mean to have faith alone, and what does it look like in the real world? This along with some restaurant bread recommendations and flashback to the days of Limewire from a very tired host on this episode of 3 Priests Walk in a Bar.
Can I Get a Witness? (S2,E2)
Today your priests and sweet baby host tackle one of the more serious subjects we've encountered thus far. Recorded near the Feast of St. Valentine, our focus today shifts to martyrdom. While it may seem like a simple subject on the surface, there are many plenty of ways to take this conversation, and yes, even a few jokes to be had. What exactly is a martyr? Will Fr. Nik finally not get the last word? Will Fr. Adam's marriage survive being called a martyrdom? How many times will Pastor Lou thwart the host's clever setups? All this and more on today's episode of 3 Priests Walk in a Bar.
Can you Confirm? (S2,E1)
A 3P Christmas (Season 1 Finale) (S1,E20)
It's that time of year! Time for trees, drinks, and your three clerical errors (and sweet baby host) to head into hibernation. Yes, you heard it right. We're gonna be taking a short break through the end of the year, but we will be back in the new year for the much anticipated, raved about in the New York Times, Season 2! To take us out, we're talking about how we do Christmas. Is Father Adam a grinch about December 25? Did Martin Luther invent the Christmas tree? Are English carols as dusty as Fr. Nik's glasses? All this and more on the Season 1 Finale of 3 Priests Walk in a Bar.
Ghoulies, Ghosties, and Long-Legged Beasties (S1,E19)
It’s almost Halloween/Reformation Day/All Hallows Eve, and we had to bust out the spooks for you today. You figure priests might have something important to say about spirits and ghosts and things of that nature, and I’m sure our priests do. But the question remains if your host can keep their train of thought long enough to get their thoughts out on a recording. Tune in to today’s episode to hear about ghosts, demons, and one farting exorcist. From Ghoulies and Ghosties and Three Clerical Errors, Good Lord deliver us!
Immaculate Misconceptions (S1,E18)
Everyone has misconceptions about something, and misconceptions about our priests are no exception. We've all heard stories about Martin Luther, but how many of them are true? We've heard that the Orthodox are these weird people off in the East somewhere, but is that true? Or are they weird everywhere? And lastly, we've definitely heard stories about Henry VIII, but to what lengths will Fr. Nik go to defend his opinion that he really was the kinda guy you could see yourself getting a beer with? All this and more in today's episode!
Help! I've Fallen and I Can't Get Up! (S1,E17)
The feeling of fall is in the air, and consequently, the Fall of Man is on our minds. What does it mean to speak of man as fallen? And when we speak of our fallenness, what exactly does that mean? And what sort of emphasis should we put on it? One of guilt? One of shame? And what does our fallenness reveal about the character of God? Some have said His wrath, but what about His love? All this and some Autumnal brews on this week's episode.
Angels and Demons (S1,E16)
Listen Up! (S1,E15)
Hear ye, hear ye! But what are we hearing? Our 3 clerical error attempt today to delve into the topic of discerning the Spirit’s voice in our lives. If and when the Spirit does speak to us, how do we discern that it is truly the Spirit that’s the one speaking? Many of us have felt like we’ve had multiple competing voices in our hearts telling us what to do and what to think, but if the Spirit of God is speaking to us in the midst of all of that, how do we discern which one is His? All this and more in today’s episode.
Everybody's Heard About the Word (S1,E14)
The Word is the Word. But how? Today we get a little headier in our subject matter as we explore the relationship between Jesus as the Living Word of God and Scripture as the written Word of God. We don't have nearly enough time to flesh out this topic in its entirety, much to Father Nik's disappointment, but we do have just enough time to prove that once again if there exists any controversy, it's certainly not reaching any resolution here.
"So What's Your Favorite Bible Verse?" (S1,E13)
After a brief vacation certainly not brought on by the host's forgetfulness, our clerics are back so share a little bit more about themselves. This episode's topic is brought to you by Fr. Adam who has been pushing for it in order to secretly weed out all of our errors and bring us home to Orthodoxy. He may have failed in the attempt, but some great discussion ensues, as it does. So sit back, pour a pint, and brush up on your sword drills for another biographical episode of 3 Priests Walk in a Bar.
Something About Mary (S1,E12)
Mother Mary, the Virgin Mary, Blessed Mary, Blessed Virgin Mother Mary, she's known by many different titles. Perhaps no figure is quite as controversial in the Western church than the Mother of God. Many folks claim too much emphasis is put on Mary, but others say not enough. So what is it about Mary that gets people so worked up? Our clerics come together today to offer you a conversation with absolutely no resolution to this issue and several well intentioned rabbit trails as well.
The Creeds (S1,E11)
The Creeds are those defining statements of core orthodox (small "o") Christian belief. They represent what the Church has believed, does believe, and should always believe as the foundational statements to our faith. But of course there's always some bones to pick among our three clerics. Do we use the creeds in liturgy? If so, how? What are their relationship to Scripture? And will Fr. Adam's goats make another appearance? So if words like "Athanasian" or "Niceno-Constantinopolitan" make you feel like asking the bartender for another round, then this episode is for you. If the first thing you thought of when you read the word "Creed" is Creed Bratton, then you might need this episode more than the rest of us.
Eucharist (S1,E10)
Today our priestly beer connoisseurs talk about the bread and wine. Is it just bread and wine? Or is it something more? Do we dare get into the waters of transubstantiation? What does Thomas Aquinas have to do with all this? And what on earth what are those persistent rooster noises in the background? All this and the ever lacking audio quality of a Zoom call on this episode of 3 Priests Walk in a Bar.
The Church and Coronavirus (S1,E9)
There's a big elephant in the room that has pushed most of us indoors and our priests (and your host) online. In this second Zoom edition of the show, we discuss the Church's response to the coronavirus, some general concerns that the pandemic is bringing, as well as each priest's individual congregational response.
It's the End of the World! (As we know it) (S1,E8)
3 Priests LIVE - Why Father Adam Hates the "E" Word (S1,E7)
From episode one, Father Adam has shuddered at the mere mention of the word, and we've finally given him the space he deserves to tell not only Nik and Lou why they're wrong, but also an entire live audience. The word is "ecumenical," the event is live, and the hosts are - well the same as they've always been. Welcome to 3 Priests Walk in a Bar Live from Hanover Tavern, where this time we discuss the Orthodox position on ecumenism.
What the Halo? Pt. 2 (S1,E6)
A continuation of the discussion in our previous episode, today we dive even deeper into the world of sainthood within our various traditions.
What the Halo? Pt. 1 (S1,E5)
Everyone has seen those paintings of saints with the little halos around their head. But what does it actually mean to be a recognized saint within the church? And how does that recognition vary among the different traditions? All that and a good cry over spilt beer in this week's episode of 3 Priests Walk in a Bar.
The Church As Family (S1,E4)
Throughout its history, the Church has been called a brotherhood in Christ, sons of the Father. We are a family, but what does that mean? And in what ways does it differ from the traditional human family? Is there a relationship between the two or are they two separate entities? Most importantly, how can we as the church be the best family we can be? All this and more on this month's installment of 3 Priests Walk in a Bar!
3 Priests LIVE - Can We Worship Together? (S1,E3)
In this special edition of 3 Priests Walk in Bar, we host a live event where Fathers Nik, Adam, and Lou each give their perspective on the question "Can we worship together, despite our denominational differences?" Can we pray together? Preside together? Take Communion together? All these topics and more followed by an audience Q&A in this special live edition of the podcast.
What Is Prayer? (S1,E2)
Introductions (S1,E1)
In this first episode of the 3 Priests Walk in a Bar Podcast, we meet our three priests. Father Lou of the Lutheran tradition, Father Nik of the Episcopal Church of the Anglican Tradition, and Father Adam of the Orthodox Tradition all tell us what drew them to their congregations and try not to drift into warring over who is right.
