We recorded yesterday - Sunday, August 9th - early in the afternoon, about twelve hours before the Leafs lost game 5 3-0 without a miraculous comeback and we brought in our friend Rob Guy, team 3MI defenseman & big Leafs fan, to talk through the hopes he and Chuck shared going into the game.

It's probably quite funny to listen to now. We also talk through the Habs upset over the Pens and more Qualifiers shocks while Mike is just hoping to see the Bruins win a game at some point (he's been waiting since frigging March)

But Rob is from Twillingate, which is a finalist for Kraft Hockeyville this year with voting THIS WEEKEND! He talks us through the history of "The George", hockey's role in the town, and what the investment would mean to them moving forward - he also tells us about the best place to get a plate of wedge fries when you head there to watch a game.

With the crazy 2020 season returning we decided it was finally time to shake off the rust and get back at it. 

We go through our thoughts on hockey being back and work through some thoughts on the play in series and even though we don't dig too deep into the announcement of the Kraken, Mike decided to make our logo their colours anyway!

So we don't know if you guys heard, but there's this global pandemic thing that shut hockey down and has lead to some general malaise for a lot of people. 

With no hockey and not being able to get together to record, we took some time off to focus on other stuff, but we've had enough of that and it's time to shout about hockey on the internet again.

There's A LOT going on in the episode.  We use the Trade Deadline to announce a trade of our own; we're swapping out Brothers In Stereo's "The Worst Crowd" for In All Alone's "Highway 2, Calgary Nothing" and also chat to lead singer Patrick Kordyback about his hockey loving pop punk band In All Alone, being a reasonable Oilers fan, and his dad disowning him if he had played for the Flames. There's also a lot of trade deadline talk. Chuck & Mike rummage through the 30+ deadline deals and chat about what stands out to them. Speaking of stand outs, we couldn't have a hockey related conversation this week without talking about EBUG sweetheart Dave Ayres - the 42 year old zamboni driver who works for the Leafs and also beat them Saturday night. Then we talk to Mike Knuble. Oh man, Mike's career was insane. His first NHL game was Fight Night At The Joe - y'know that game between the Red Wings and Avs. From there he just picked off a checklist of being around huge hockey moments - and we make a realization that even he hadn't picked up on before. We put out a call to you guys for your favourite good news hockey stories from 2019 for us to talk through as we look back on the year and here they are, with some of ours along the way. We also talk to some beauties - Nik Abbott hops on to talk about meeting Tim Thomas not long before he came out with the news of his struggles with post concussion syndrome. Then we've got Ray & Evan who made a pretty big impression with the goalie community when Ray posted a photo of Evan after he got drunk, decided his pads were too big, and chopped them down. Clear the track, here comes Shack! We've got the legend that is Eddie Shack on the show this week and bring on some beauties to help us out with it. Before the theme song even finishes we dive into some serious music talk with the one and only Terry Ryan Sr. Eventually Chuck shows up and we talk about some hockey, particularly Milan Lucic and everyone being upset at him for doing what he's specifically paid money to do.  Then we make way for 3 time All Star and FOUR TIME CUP CHAMP Eddie Shack. Eddie has just written a new book with the help of (friend of the show) Killer Ken Reid, Evanka's friend. We've got Tim Thompson on the show this week and he may be the the most unsung, under appreciated guest we've had - even though we all sing his praises and appreciate him A LOT. This guy has made you cry. I guarantee it. Tim is a filmmaker who through the earlier part of the decade was responsible for the montages that opened Hockey Night In Canada. Those emotionally resonate and stirring pieces set to your favourite songs? That was Tim. What you might not know about him is that before he went after your feels every week he went after hockey dreams - even playing a year of pro in a place he calls a "cross between Slap Shot and Spinal Tap". We've got another week where Terry & Mike start things off and Chuck comes by to finish up. It’s a bit of a weird, recorded out of order one this week and the thing happened where we recorded on back to back nights and then for some reason waiting 4 days to write the episode description.  What definitely happened is that Chuck missed the interview so Mike & TR gave him grief for missing an EPIC chat with Bryan Muir.  From childhood illness that almost took him out of the game, to spending an offseason working for a British jewel thief, to a season that started with a coach running him out of town almost causing him to retire ended with winning a Stanley Cup alongside Ray Bourque & Patrick Roy.  Bryan’s story is a wild ride. Buckle up.  Oh! And not to be outdone by Muirsy's madness, TR throws down his own wild story as he passes on some wedding advice for Mike.

Hockey is dumb. I don't know why anyone gives a shit about this stupid game. It will drag you along for 9 months and then shit on your heart. Unrelated, I highly recommend not having a drunk Bruins fan write your episode description less than an hour after a devastating game 7 loss - especially for an episode that was recording before the loss and full of hope and promise of what was to come (but didn't).  Anyway, Jason MacDonald is an incredible guest who talks us through a wild ride though the AHL & IHL before getting 4 games with the Rangers and coming back for an unforgettable stint with the St. John's Maple Leafs. Outside the interview there's some talk about the stupid Stanley Cup Finals that are dumb but also some thoughts on the incredible run from the Raptiz before digging into the Beatles & Rolling Stone Magazines top albums and songs of all time. So we're light on episodes due to some overlapping travel by Mike & Terry but to make sure we had some content for you this week Chuck came over to Mike's place and watched Game 5 of the Cup Finals with Mike and his fiancé Maria - both noted Bruins fans. We've mostly recovered from the Heart & Stroke Foundations EPIC Hockey Heroes Weekend and while Chuck is still of reeling from sitting down and chatting with Doug Gilmore, TR & Mike manage to compose themselves to get a full episode recorded and interview slap shot & hair style LEGEND Al Iafrate. The former NHL All Star recounts his unusual path to the NHL going from playing midget to being drafted 4th overall with a stop at the Olympics over a 16 month period. He also talks about why the Heart & Stroke Foundation is so important to him. Having Al on the show also prompts TR to share a story about his first trip to see an NHL game. As some of you may know we were at the Heart & Stroke Foundation's Hockey Heroes Weekend in St John's this week and did a pile of live streaming while we were there - but that means we're recovering a bit and don't have a full episode coming today. Usually when TR heads out of town for something (like this past week when he played with the NHL Alumni for Alzheimer's Face Off Pro Am in Edmonton) Mike & Chuck will record something ridiculous like making Playoff Predictions 2 months out or setting up a dozen Twitter polls about the biggest hockey stories of the season.  This week we planned to dissect the Bruins/Leafs series but instead it just turned into Chuck GOING OFF about his opinions in a post-mortem of a disappointing season. (We weren't able to get the usual recording with TR last minute so this will be our episode this week, were already working on getting back to our regular format next week)  BUT until then; Tune in to hear a defeated Leafs fan squirm, scream, and maybe even deliver a verse of "Oh Danny Boy" as it turns into a eulogy...fast. Remember how in Tuesday's episode we mentioned wanting to do more episodes but having trouble finding time? Well we were sneaky because we were recording a bonus episode after that. Since TR was out of town celebrating Terry Ryan Night with the Tri-City Americans our regular episode will be a bit late this week. The guys sat down to talk through their thoughts on the trade deadline and how it impacts the playoff race. Then, in and exercise in madness the Bruins fan and the Leafs fan each made a playoff bracket guessing at which 16 teams they think will make it into the second season and, more importantly, who they think will come out of the Atlantic Division series. This week is a little bit different on 3MI. We pause the Oh Baby's and Intentional Offsides to look back at the life of a true beauty - Greg "Bird Dog" Smyth. The 22nd overall pick by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1984 draft, Bird Dog's NHL career would feature stops with the Nordiques, Flames, Panthers, Leafs, & Blackhawks amassing 228 games, 4 goals, 16 assists, 783 pims, and countless stories before finishing off his pro career in St. John's and finding a new hometown. On the first anniversary of his passing TR & Mike are joined by his friends and teammates Tommy Beckett, Theo Fleury, & Darin Kimble to remember Bird Dog.
