The Sean Light Show

By Sean Light

In 2011, I finished college with a degree in print journalism. Four years later, I was a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Los Angeles Lakers. I got there by finding a way to get bigger and better results than my competition. In 2017, when I started my business, I followed the same path. Ironically, the answers were the same. This podcast is about biohacking your business. We will take a dive into neuroscience, exercise science and business development to bring you real life strategies to find success in whatever you're pursuing.

#381: Faith Over Fear

#381: Faith Over Fear

Serendipitously, I stumbled on a podcast from Russell Brunson where he was reviewing one of my all-time favorite books, Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill. In the book, Hill talks about how all decisions are either made on faith or on fear.

For example, let’s say you had to do some door-to-door selling for your business. I know you don’t want to do it. You know you don’t want to do it. The whole world knows that nobody wants to do it. But what is guiding your decisions. Is it the faith that you’ll find some great relationships and business or the fear of the rejection?

What was so striking to me about this theory is that, when I look back on this financial windfalls, they all came from a place of faith. The situations that I found myself in made fear a non-factor. If I gave into the fear, failure was automatic.

When I decided to keep going and not quit, I stopped fear from having a voice.

When I created a plan of action, I simply could not let fear have any influence.

When I had to start taking action immediately, fear had to be suppressed because I had no other choice.

The external factors had forced me to disregard fear in my decision making and every single time I’ve had to do that, I’ve had major success!

So then the question is, how can I replicate this and avoid the crisis?

#380: What Does it Take to Make a lot of Money?

#380: What Does it Take to Make a lot of Money?

My current record is $27,000 in one day.

In fact, I’ve had a number of days or periods of time that have been massively successful for me.

Yesterday, I was thinking about all of these times and trying to find the similarities. What do all of these financial events have in common.

#378: Raising Your Rates from $1100 to $35,000

#378: Raising Your Rates from $1100 to $35,000

When I worked for the Lakers, we constantly had vendors coming in telling us how their product was going to dramatically improve the performance of the players. At that point, I’d seen it all. I’d seen little lasers the guys could rub on their muscles, to machines they stand in to measure the fat around their internal organs. Just crazy stuff. None of it had any measureable effect.

You go into any NBA weight room across the league and everyone is doing all the same basic stuff. The best teams just have better players.

You go into any successful business’ board room around the world, and they are doing all the same basic stuff. The best businesses just have better players.

What this tells me is that, now, as you try to grow your business from X to 10X, the value you give will be the same. Maybe you’ll package it in a nicer gift basket, but the value will remain roughly the same.

You’re selling common sense. Think about it. How the heck can a personal trainer stay employed when literally everyone in the world knows how to lose weight and get jacked? Nobody is reinventing the wheel here.

So, if the tactics remain the same, how will you eventually start making more money? How will you eventually raise your prices?

If the value remains the same, that means you’re missing something. There’s something about money, or business that you don’t know, that is stopping your income dead in its tracks.

#377: Neuroscience, Decisions and Achievement

#377: Neuroscience, Decisions and Achievement

I studied neuroscience for several years which unknowingly prepared me for my career as an entrepreneur. What I learned was that there were two main functions in the brain that caused people to do what they do.

The first is the neocortex. This is the outer surface of the brain and here, all of your memories and past experiences are stored. Just like a filing cabinet. Your brain keeps them there as a point of reference so it can be prepared for similar events in the future.

The second is a process called allostasis. I call this predictive physiology. This is where your body predicts what it will need in the next moment and prepares for it.

A great example of allostasis would be when you see a pizza commercial on TV and your mouth starts to water. Your brain is receiving and input (seeing the cheesy pizza) and based on experience, it believes it’s about to eat some, so it produces a reaction to prepare for the incoming slice. Don’t think for a minute, the Pizza Hut guys don’t know this!

In business, let’s say you have to do some cold calling. Your brain begins to search the filing cabinets to see what info it has on cold calling. It finds the folder and it reads, “I hate this; It’s awkward; They will get mad at me.” Then the brain will do what the brain does and prepare for that awful experience.

#375 My Marketing Scheme...REVEALED!

#375 My Marketing Scheme...REVEALED!

THIS is your marketing problem.

When entrepreneurs tell me that they are struggling with marketing, it’s always the fear of success holding them back. They are hoping to somehow paste success on top of their current lifestyle and that simply is not possible.

It isn’t difficult to find new customers.

If you have a great offer, that solves a common problem, then people are going to want to buy it from you.

The single greatest reason why entrepreneurs struggle with “marketing,” is because they thought it was going to be a lot easier than it actually is.
