S5 #14 Being Vulnerable, The Humble Brag & LinkedIn Etiquette

S5 #14 Being Vulnerable, The Humble Brag & LinkedIn Etiquette

In this episode I explore how LinkedIn has changed in more recent years and what this means in terms of how I recommend you approach it. I discuss the trend of being vulnerable, the humble brag and provide suggestions for how I encourage Think Bespoke's clients to start more conversations and build stronger business relationships on LinkedIn, including:

  • respond to invitations to connect with a conversational follow up message
  • follow up face to face conversations with new contacts by inviting them to connect on LinkedIn
  • react (e.g like, etc) to relevant posts and updates shared by colleagues
  • comment when you can genuinely add value to the discussion
  • share relevant and insightful content (e.g. useful articles you have read) and remember to stay focussed on your chosen topic areas

I recommend you take the time to consider your plan for LinkedIn. An intentional and strategic approach will deliver greater results over time.

S5 #9 Improve Your LinkedIn UX & Clean Up Your LinkedIn Newsfeed

S5 #9 Improve Your LinkedIn UX & Clean Up Your LinkedIn Newsfeed

Visit thinkbespoke.com.au for more LinkedIn Marketing tips.

In this episode I share the 7 key steps to improve your LinkedIn user experience (UX) by cleaning up your LinkedIn newsfeed, including:

1. Establish a LinkedIn Strategy

I want you to get as much value from your LinkedIn experience as possible, and it starts with a game plan. Before diving into the process of cleaning up your newsfeed, consider developing a clear strategy for your time on LinkedIn. What do you want to be the ‘go to’ for? What topics do you want to lead, research or contribute to? This strategic approach will help you focus on relevant content, making your LinkedIn experience more purposeful.

2. Unfollow Connections

If you find your newsfeed inundated with irrelevant updates, start by unfollowing connections whose content no longer aligns with your interests. Simply click on the three dots next to a post, select "Unfollow," and regain control over your newsfeed. This step ensures that you stay connected with individuals while curating the content you see.

3. Follow and Ring the Bell for Notifications

To enhance the quality of your newsfeed, actively follow industry influencers, news sources, and connections whose content you value. Ringing the bell for notifications ensures that you stay informed about their updates. Whether it's individuals, companies, or educational institutions, this feature allows you to tailor your newsfeed to include content that matters to you.

4. Align Your Feed with Your Interests

Review the sources of information you currently subscribe to outside of LinkedIn. Follow individuals and companies that contribute to these sources, both from an individual and organisational perspective. Utilise LinkedIn's search function to discover content and discussions related to your interests, narrowing your focus for a more tailored newsfeed.

5. Focus on Relevant Topics

Identify the key topics that resonate with your professional goals and the communities you aim to influence on LinkedIn. Whether it's industry trends, legislative changes, or niche discussions, narrow down your focus to 3-5 topics. This targeted approach ensures that your engagement aligns with your objectives and builds your authority in specific areas.

6. Be a Strategic Content Curator

By following authoritative sources, you can stay informed about the latest industry trends without creating content yourself. Reposting relevant updates demonstrates your expertise and adds value to your network. Remember, your LinkedIn activity, including comments and reposts, contributes to building your professional image.

7. Stay Meaningfully Connected

After cleaning up your newsfeed, leverage the platform to stay connected with your professional community. Share valuable content privately through LinkedIn messaging, fostering meaningful conversations. Whether it's a colleague's article or a resource relevant to a client, this personalised sharing approach strengthens your connections.

Welcome to this episode about how to refresh your LinkedIn Profile. If you're a long term listener you may notice an update of the podcast visual. This reflects changes to my LinkedIn Profile. We are all a work in progress, after all!

Here are the resources I mention in this episode:

In Discovering I Am An Ambivert you can read more about when I uncovered my ambivert tendencies. If you're new to this term, an ambivert is someone who's in the middle of the introvert and ambivert continuum. We can be mistaken for extroverts, depending on the environment we found ourselves in. And it's a continuum, like many things in life.

In this episode I share my initial thoughts about why I do not classify LinkedIn as social media, and why it might be helpful for you to take the same approach. I'm keen to start a conversation about this concept. As a LinkedIn Marketer or the person who is responsible for your organisation's LinkedIn presence, approaching LinkedIn in a different way to how we approach social media might just be the game changer you need. There's lots of low hanging fruit on LinkedIn, when you know where to find it.

S4 #2 LinkedIn introduces new Carousel feature for LinkedIn Profile Creators

S4 #2 LinkedIn introduces new Carousel feature for LinkedIn Profile Creators

In this episode I share the news from LinkedIn, via Jake Poses - Director of Product (Video, Creators, Events), that LinkedIn's providing a new way to share a series of swipeable photos and videos. This feature is current being offered to 1000s of LinkedIn Creators around the world and will be rolled out to LinkedIn members in Creator Mode in 'fall', which for Australian listeners, I'm assuming is September. We shall wait and see. Please note - since recording this episode the carousel feature has been deactivated.

Here's the update, shared via Think Bespoke's Company Page earlier today.

S3 #10 How to Maximise the About Section of Your LinkedIn Profile

In this episode I explore a number of key ways you can to maximise the About section of your LinkedIn Profile and provide some key do's and don'ts for writing this section of your profile. It's definitely the hardest section of your profile to write, so take the time you need to write this section.  Here's my blog of an example of the 'call to actions' I mention in this episode. Also take a look at this blog about How to Write your LinkedIn Profile About Section.

S2 #24 How to Save Posts & Articles in Your LinkedIn Feed

In this episode I explore the save posts and articles feature.  If you’ve taken the time to curate and clean up your LinkedIn feed then you’ll find your LinkedIn experience has improved, and some of the posts and articles you see can be a helpful source of news and inspiration.
If you’re responsible for the management of content for yourself, your business or your clients, or you’re, like me, and enjoy a good thought provoking read, then you’ll enjoy being able to save your favourite updates and return to them when you have time to read or watch them in full.
