A place where you can hear my ramblings on PTSD, Depression as well as daily observations and challenges about what it is like to navigate the murky waters of life while swimming among the "normals"...
A day late but none the less relevant; here is my Father's Day post.
Father's Day has always held obfuscating meaning for me. It had typically been a day not celebrated in my family, and rightfully so. But that does not change the fact that when I was kid, this day and its festivities were always something that provoked a stir of introspection for me. I write about that in this story of my father...
Finally, a new episode! Thank you for your patience and support.
On this episode I conclude my story with a phone call to my buddy, Sean, who is featured in this anecdotal tale of mine. We discuss the event in question, celebrity favorites and more. Enjoy!
This episode is a little lighter and may even elicit a chuckle or two, hopefully...
This story takes place during my military days. Specifically, basic training. I wrote this to remember something more fond during this time of uncertainty and an unrest. I hope you like it.
On this episode I speak about the cover of my book and how it came to be. I explain the nuance behind the capture. Is it a simple selfie? Surely not. Have a listen, see what you think.

I was recently featured on a podcast (the UpTalk Podcast) and had a conversation with its host: Sean Conohan. A distinguished paramedic and communications officer with many years of experience in the field.
Here is a link to his show!
I have a blog read for you folks. Thank you for your patience while I struggle to get these episodes out there. I appreciate your support, kindness and compassion. Thank you.
This episode explains a little bit about what I have been doing since the start of this COVID-19 pandemic and how I have been coping with the lingering grief of my sister's unexpected passing.
Lisa, I love you.
Hello, folks! Sorry for the delay in getting these things out consistently, but I'm trying. On this episode I figured I would chat with you all about some of what's been on my mind during these new and uncertain times. The new "normal" so-to-speak.
Sorry it's been a while, folks. On this episode I read a story that I wrote and a story that was written for me by a very dear friend. My hope is that this episode can add some levity to the heft of our new every day lives... Things are uncertain out there at the moment and there is only so much of it that we can control. Hopefully this can act as a brief respite for the heaviness of it all.
On this episode I respond to an opinion piece by the Toronto Star's: Heather Mallick. Link to the article can be found in this episode's show notes.
This episode is deeply personal to me. Our family has suffered another unimaginable loss. Writing has been my outlet for some time now... so I wrote this in hopes that it will help me heal.
Rest in peace, Lisa.
Welcome to the first episode of 2020! Kicking off a brand new decade with a brand new story for you all, a story that includes some exciting news! So, grab a tea, a coffee or whatever you please, sit back and let's get this decade rolling!
***Trigger warning*** (some sounds throughout the recording may be troubling to some listeners - discretion is advised)
This is a story motivated by a recurring dream/set of symptoms that I have been having as of late. They are very specific and I do not know what the causation of them are... but I am working on it.
This episode tells that story.
On this episode I take a page from Mike Rowe's prestigious playbook and narrate a story that I have written and produced about a real person (other than me) in a way that make you listen till the end. It's also a tribute to the memory of this who perished on December 7th, 1941.
This story takes place on Valentine's Day. I am releasing it now as my mum's birthday is coming up soon and anyone who has followed the podcast will know... that's a big day.
Mum... this one's for you!
On this episode you get to hear an interview between Heather Down (founder of Wintertickle Press the publishing house responsible for A Medic's Mind) speak about the book and how it came to be as well as some other projects that she has worked on and is involved with.

I came across an online post about the late Chester Bennington. The comment section of said post was nothing short of abhorrent and dissatisfactory. I share my thoughts on the topic of suicide on this episode of A Medic's Mind.
Today I have a special one for you; something really splendid happened to me recently and it really is too good not to share! This story involves a rock, Superman, two fantastic women and Newfoundland!
Hey, folks! So, although this titular episode is a little out of season... I wanted to bring a little Christmas spirit into the mix. So, I have a story for you. I recorded this in July, so please, ignore the July references at the intro to this post and enjoy !
July 6th is a tough day. I am trying not to get bogged down in the low of it all and instead have chosen to try and honour a friend, a man I called, brother, in a different and more deserving way. On this episode, I tell you about Colin Wilmot
This is a blog read that will explain to you a little bit about why I hate crowded places and busy spaces. Perhaps you can relate.

This episode contains a piece that I am working on for the upcoming book, A Medic's Mind. It is not a complete piece. It is just to give you an idea of some of the stuff I am working on as well as what you can expect from the book when it comes out some time in 2019 or early 2020.
Yesterday was a bad day with relation to PTSD symptomology and I have some things to say about it. I also talk about the importance of "turning it around," thinking differently when spinning in those thoughts of negativity and self-loathing.
On this episode I read an original piece that is not featured on amedicsmind.com. This is work in progress but if you'd like to e-mail me with thoughts, impressions and idea's that would be very welcomed! Thanks for listening!

Sit back and listen to what I consider to be my favorite episode!
Episode 99, folks (the Gretzky episode). This one is a bit of a step away from the macabre styled nature of what I normally discuss and instead is an anecdotal retelling of some of the lighter moments of my youth.
Have a listen, see what you think, maybe have a laugh (hopefully).
In the midst of some rather serendipitous blessings by the universe, I think I have finally found my new mantra - embrace the unknown!
On this episode I talk about a blanket, a streamer, depression and resilience! Sit back, grab a tea or a coffee and let's get started!
Been a busy couple of days for me with book signings and a rough few nights with respect to nightmares (adventure sleeping). Today's episode contains a blog read about what has been on my mind throughout these challenging days and nights.
Have a listen.
Well, another book signing is in the... books... (bad pun). Anyway, it's done, complete and what a great time it was. It wasn't without its vexations mind you, but it was great nonetheless.
I share my thoughts on how speaking about mental health is helping me grow and advance within recovery and what its like to speak with people who just "get it".
Also, the big city can be a... strange place... Have a listen, you'll see.

Lat night I came across something that evoked some pretty strong emotions from me. I wrote a blog post about it over at: amedicsmind.com.
As I so often do, I turned it into a podcast episode, I hope you enjoy it! Or in this case, take something from it.
This episode contains my latest blog read of the same title. I hope you are able to take something away from it. Thank you for your support, I am not averaging over 70 listens per episode, that's incredible! Thank you!!
On this episode I talk about "staging" and what that means in paramedic land. This is a point of contention with a lot of medic's and their sup's, we'll break it down on this episode of, A Medic's Mind The Podcast.

This one is about my paramedic jacket and what it meant to me, represented to me and what it all means to me now.
If you feel like it, have a listen, get to know me just a bit better as I talk about, jackets...
Today was kind of a rough one for me. It was a day of unique and potent challenges and with that comes repercussion, rumination and introspective brooding - things I excel at!
In this long winded and somewhat chaotic episode, I try to come to some kind of philosophic answer - come, join me!
On this episode I read for you something that I am currently working on and am hoping to published into an upcoming book that I hope to release or at least finalize this year.
This is called Jackets. I will not say too much more about the piece itself, but I would like to say that this piece was read within the confines of my newly constructed sound booth!
It's not complete but the audio should be noticeably better (especially with earphones).
Have a listen, see what you think!
On this episode I think back to my bro-trip with my best buddy, Drew, to New York City!
What an epic time it was; we got drunk with the creators of the show: How I Met Your Mother, won free Letterman Tickets, saw Tom Hanks, got drunk and puked outside of a cab that in turn left us for dead on the side of the lower east side... good times!
This episode consists of a blog read that was written after our most recent book signing.
Something really positive happened to me while I was out at the book signing and I felt the need to write some things down... so I did.

On this episode, you will hear me orate why I think depression is just a big ol' bag of dicks and a bold faced liar!
You will also hear me talk about puppies, porno and leg lamps... strap in (no pun intended) it's gonna be a show!
A read from my latest blog over at, amedicsmind.com. This is my first venture into fiction writing and it just felt a little more fitting than anything that I have been writing and thinking on lately.
Enjoy! And Merry Christmas!!
I was recently interviewed by a local radio station for the promotion of the book, Brainstorm Revolution, and it was... interesting. An overall great experience, but some unique turbulence within it also.
You can have a listen here.
Another installment of, Not So Serious, this one is called: There Was A Guy Named, Jason...
This is a story motivated by the man himself. He brought this story to my attention and thus caused an immediate call to introspect in the fondest of ways.
Have a listen and learn a little about a man who is indeed, not so small...
On this episode, I talk about depression and how it manifests itself within me. This is a blog read episode and admittedly there are some inconsistencies with the audio, but it's listen-able... yeah...
