Doli - Journey of life -Being able to trust someone that much is an expectation. It cannot be unconditional.
Doli:
This is when the bride bids an emotional farewell to her family and proceeds to her husband’s house. As she departs, she throws a handful of rice backwards towards her mother, symbolically thanking her family for bringing her up, and trying to repay them. It is called doli because, in earlier times, the bride was carried to the groom’s house in a wooden palanquin called doli. Coming from the eastern society, the dissolving of a marriage (that is, divorce), is not common, especially after having a kid. It just doesn’t happen as much as the western world. It’s a piece of gossip, some news, where you hear about ‘cases’ here and there.
A current study shows that India has the lowest rate of divorce in the world only 13 out of 1,000 marriages in India, a mere 1 per cent, end in separation. So, does this mean Indians are principally fortunate, and get to experience the ‘happily MARRIED’ more often than other countries? Is it evident that the arranged marriage structure is correctly the best globally?Jovial as these prospects are, they are far from the truth.
Women are meant to stay married and make things work, regardless of what they go through. Going through a divorce after 22 years of marriage was incredibly hard for me mentally, emotionally, and financially. And it became a dead-weight on my survival when the ones closest to me invalidated my decision of raising my voice against domestic violence and fight legally. They made me feel guilty, and that added to the trauma.
I chose to never give up, and never look back!
Depression has numerous layers that come together to impact a sufferer. It’s hard to describe or articulate. People are sad for so many reasons. As we move forward, embracing new phases of science and technology, many of us live an unhappy life. I agree social conditions are more responsible, including our thoughts and attitudes. Tireless efforts and advancements are being made in treating depression, right from spreading the word about mental healthcare via social media awareness. However, the world is still not kind enough to sufferers of depression or any form of mental illness.
Life runs on belief and hope. Here, I have endeavored to explain the fundamental truths of life in the simplest possible language. As we feel, think and believe, the mind is conditioned to evaluate our circumstances. According to psychological surveys that have mapped human emotions and happiness over the past decade, we are less happy and give up easily when things go wrong.
Unexpectedly, we have the most lavish life, including income growth over a period. But it certainly leaves us puzzled. Where are we wrong? What is the core meaning of wellbeing? How to cope with difficult times? Do all of us dive into depression when times are challenging? My dad always encouraged me with his positive thoughts, and often said: “Real people smile in trouble, gather strength from distress, and become braver by challenges.”
There were many times, during the course of my marriage, when I realized that I am not actually happy. I had a family, a house, all the essentials, but there was still something missing. Though domestic abuse and emotional turmoil were everyday occurrences, I still continued to save the marriage. I never realized how much I was giving in, without getting what I wanted back – just respect and trust. I started realizing that in reality, love is never unconditional. There is always an expectation to receive something in return. There is a simple saying I read once, that goes along these lines
Never lie to someone who trusts you, and never trust someone who lies to you.
Eng Litereature ,After Blenheim, Analysis, Summary And Theme, Treasure and Trove ICSE 9/10
All about the Poem- After Blenheim: by Poet Robert Southey; After Blenheim is an Anti war poem in the form of a Ballad.
The poem ‘After Blenheim’ highlights the outcome of the war. There is death and destruction everywhere. The Old Kaspar a afarmer has a conversation with his Grandchildren and talks about a grand victory over the French. Old Kaspar’s grandchildren fail to understand how a horrible war can be called a famous victory. The old man has no answer to this question and is unable to convince the children upon the questions they asked: The Poem brings out the horror of war. War is fearful and brins only destruction; thousands of men are killed.
‘After Blenheim’ brings out the horrors of war in a simple but ironic way. The battle of Blenheim was fought in 1704 in the village between the English and the Austrians on the one side and the French on the other side. The battle resulted in a grand victory of the English under the Duke of Marlbrough. In this battle, thousands of men were killed. Women became widows and children became orphans. The battle called war caused much ruin and destruction.
In the poem, written mostly in a dialogue form, the grandfather, Old Kaspar, calls the battle of Blenheim as a great victory. He praises the heroism of English soldiers. His grandchildren, Wilhelmine and Peterkin, who have discovered a human skull, fail to understand how a destructive war can be called a famous victory. The innocent, searching questions of the children puzzle the old man, and evoke pity for the victims ,on hearing the story the little Wilhelmine said it was very sad to hear the war which was a bad thing to happen and there was no reason to glorify and praise the war heroes when old kaspar kept on repeting indeed it was a famous war of victory, though the children were not convinced..
