Mr. Big Stuff' singer Jean Knight has died at age 80 😥 Jean Knight, the soul singer best known for the song "Mr. Big Stuff," died last week at 80. New Orleans singer Jean Knight only scored one No. 1 hit on the Billboard soul singles chart, but what a hit it was. "Mr. Big Stuff" was a funky, sweeping indictment of men who are too big for their britches. It was Jean Knight's first and only big hit for the Memphis powerhouse label Stax Records. And with the success of "Mr. Big Stuff," Jean Knight became Stax's top selling female artist. The single went double platinum and earned Knight a Grammy nomination. A Black veteran Detroit police officer accused a younger white officer of racial profiling in 2019. Now three years later, that younger officer has been found guilty of assault.
"We the jury in the above-entitled action, find the defendant Thomas Michael Joseph Jones guilty," said the jury foreman. A jury convicted a Detroit cop of assaulting Officer Christopher Williams in a case that made national headlines, embarrassed the Detroit Police Department, and humiliated an 18-year veteran of the force.

"I’ll be able to get some sleep now after all this time, so it’s a good thing," said Williams.

It was a little more than three years ago when Officer Tom Jones, a white man, chased Williams down, shoved him into a fence, and forcefully handcuffed him at the department’s training center where roughly 100 plainclothes cops were logging hours to meet yearly training standards.

Jones saw Williams with a large amount of cash on his person in the bathroom of the training center and suspected of him wrong-doing.

"For him to work the street, what would he do to my grandmother, to my mother," Williams said. "I hope he wouldn’t put them in cuffs for having money on them."

"The element of race doesn't escape me either," said attorney Todd Perkins. "That this white officer saw fit to tell this Black man, that you’re not supposed to have this kind of money on you."

Mulroy said police video of the traffic stop, in which Nichols' family and their lawyers say the 29-year-old father and FedEx worker was savagely beaten for three minutes, will be released to the public on Friday.

Is “Jesus” really “the sweetest name” you know? If yes, why? Could you tell someone else why? Do you ever tell anyone else why? If Jesus is not “the sweetest” name to you, does that bother you? Have you ever thought about it? Do you know why there are things more precious to you than Him?

“Sweet” can mean many things: pleasant tasting, satisfying, comforting, rare, precious, valuable…. all of these meanings in various forms and degrees are applicable. For the sake of our study, we’ll use this general definition of “sweetest”: meaningful, worthwhile, endearing, valuable and life changing to the greatest degree we can imagine (not just “sweet”, “very sweet” or “sweeter” but sweetEST).

There are many aspects, reasons, facts, characteristics and events that make the name of Jesus the “sweetest”. Let’s examine over the next few days why the Name of Jesus is the Sweetest anyone can know..

Aaron Dean sentenced to over a decade in prison after manslaughter conviction in 2019 death of Atatiana Jefferson.Aaron Dean, the former Texas police officer who was convicted of manslaughter in the 2019 killing of Atatiana Jefferson, has been sentenced to 11 years, 10 months and 12 days in prison.

The decision was announced on the afternoon of Tuesday, Dec. 20, less than a week after Dean was found guilty of manslaughter on Dec. 15.

"This verdict and sentence won't bring Atatiana Jefferson back," Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney Sharen Wilson said in a statement following the sentencing. "This trial was difficult for all involved, including our community. My sympathies remain with Atatiana's family and friends and I pray they find peace. This trial wasn't about politics and it wasn't about race. If someone breaks the law, they have to be held accountable. The jury agreed. We thank the jury members for making sure justice was served."

Dean was initially indicted on a murder charge, but before the jury began deliberations, the judge in the case told them they could consider a manslaughter verdict, which in Texas carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

Blue eyes, brown eyes: What Jane Elliott's famous experiment says about race 50 years on. Jane Elliott is 84 years old, a tiny woman with white hair, wire-rim glasses and little patience.

She has been talking about how ridiculous it is to judge someone based on the color of their skin for almost 50 years. She can hardly believe she still has to say it.

“We need to fix this,” she says.

Elliot is best known as the teacher who, on April 5, 1968, the day after Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated, put her third-grade students through a bold exercise to teach them about racial prejudice.

She divided the children, who were all white, by eye color, and then she told the children that people with brown eyes were smarter, faster and better than those with blue eyes.

What happened next proved to Elliot that prejudice is a learned behavior.

Which means, she says, it can be unlearned.

It was an exercise that would catapult her into a heated national discussion, land her on television and in newspapers, and eventually make her the subject of a half-dozen documentaries and a mainstay in textbooks.

All these years later, Elliott hasn't stopped talking about what she learned. She thinks her message is more important than ever amid growing conflict over race. She minces no words. She wants you to listen. Really listen.

major and anomalous storm system is forecast to produce a multitude of weather hazards through early this weekend, as heavy snowfall, strong winds, and dangerously cold temperatures span from the northern Great Basin through the Plains, Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, and the northern/central Appalachians. At the forefront of the impressive weather pattern is a dangerous and record-breaking cold air mass in the wake of a strong arctic cold front diving southward across the southern Plains today and eastward into the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys by tonight. Behind the front, temperatures across the central High Plains have already plummeted 50 degrees F in just a few hours, with widespread subzero readings extending throughout much of the central/northern Plains and northern Rockies/Great Basin. These temperatures combined with sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph and higher wind gusts of up to 60 mph will continue to lead to wind chills as low as minus 40 degrees across a large swath of the Intermountain West and northern/central Plains, with more localized areas of minus 50 to minus 70 possible through the end of the week. Wind chills of this magnitude can cause frostbite in less than 5 minutes if precautions are not taken, with hypothermia and death also possible from prolonged exposure to the cold. Livestock interests will also be severely impacted and dangers could be exacerbated if power outages occur. Consequently, widespread Wind Chill Warnings, Watches and Advisories span across over 30 states from Washington to Florida. Daytime temperatures across the central Plains will struggle to get above 0 degrees, while areas further south in Texas and the Gulf Coast will experience temperatures in the single digits and teens Thursday evening. Furthermore, snow squalls, or a brief burst of moderate to heavy snow (lasting 1 to 2 hours), are likely to occur immediately behind the arctic front as it treks from the mid-Mississippi Valley to the East Coast. Developing snow squalls could lead to extremely hazardous travel conditions at times, as they will be accompanied by gusts to 40 mph and the potential for sudden whiteout conditions. Lastly, areas with standing water ahead of the approaching cold front, particularly throughout the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys, could experience a flash freeze this afternoon and evening. Roadways that were wet beforehand could freeze within a short period of time and lead to slick travel spots. For areas across the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, and Interior Northeast, a rapidly deepening low-pressure center that forms along the frontal boundary this evening and swings into the Great Lakes on Friday will have the potential to create potentially crippling conditions. Widespread light-to-moderate snowfall is expected for this region, along with localized totals over a foot to the south and east of the Great Lakes where lake effect snow is forecast to linger into Saturday. The snowfall totals may not seem all that impressive with this storm, but combined with very strong winds over an extended period of time will create blizzard conditions that can bring travel to a halt and strain infrastructure. These widespread wind gusts over 40 mph and potentially up over 60 mph are due to a very tight pressure gradient developing between the eventual low over the Great Lakes and the strong high pressure system over the northern Plains. The abrupt deepening of this low pressure system will also aid in the increasingly large and powerful wind field. Heavy snowfall rates of 1-2"/hour, along with wind gusts of over 50 mph will result in near-zero visibility and considerable blowing and drifting of snow. This will lead to dangerous, to at times impossible, land and air travel leading up to the holiday weekend. The combination of heavy snow and strong wind gusts could lead to significant infrastructure impacts, including scattered tree damage and power outages.🌬

A Black Mother Shares The Racism She Experienced While Giving Birth
.🏥👩‍⚕ Katherine Mary (@iamkeighpower) first explains how she was rushed to the hospital 35 weeks pregnant after feeling intense back pains while at work. While at the hospital she is set up in the labor and delivery room and then asked by a nurse about her pain. When she tells the nurse she is in extreme pain she is told to “Shut up” as the nurse is typing.

The Black mother is continually ignored and brought to tears begging the nurse to help her. Meanwhile, the nurse accuses her of overreacting about her pain for pain medicine and says she will leave the room if the mother doesn’t stop crying.

A report by the CDC shows that Black mothers are around 4 times more likely to die in childbirth than white mothers. Showcasing a clear disparity in the overall treatment of Black mothers during maternal care.

Oftentimes this disparity presents itself in fact that many times Black mothers’ requests and complaints are not taken seriously during labor. As discriminatory beliefs in the medical field persist like the assumption that Black people feel less pain.

Philly-area clinic staffer berates an expectant mother for asking for a doctor’s note to take off work.

A nurse from Philadelphia going haywire on a Black pregnant patient. The woman had gone to the doctor’s office to receive a note for her maternity leave, reported Hollywood Unlocked. Instead of meeting her request, the situation escalated into laptop cases being swung and the cops being called.

The video begins moments after the Karen called the cops on the pregnant woman, who identifies as Jillian. In a story-time video Jillian explained that she had gone to the doctor for a note to secure her maternity leave because she was experiencing pain. Jillian said the nurse gave her an aggressive, uncomfortable cervical exam, then proceeded to tell her she was fine to go to work. Jillian is 7 months pregnant.

She explained to the nurse that she’d rather speak to her doctor and have them write her a note, so the nurse had the secretary call the doctor for her. After the nurse made a shady remark at Jillian, she called the nurse a weirdo … and then the Karen called the cops.

Queen Elizabeth II, whose seven decades on the throne of the United Kingdom was a longer reign than any other British monarch, has died at the age of 96.

The queen "died peacefully" on Thursday afternoon at Balmoral Castle, her estate in the Scottish Highlands, royal family officials announced.

Another new technique used is to create a reason for a woman approaching her car to pause before entering it, so as to create an opportunity to “grab,” her. They may also create a reason for her to exit the car focused on something other than her surroundings.

As an example, women are reporting that as they approach their vehicle, they realize that a shopping cart has been “zip-tied,” to the door handle of their car! The entire effort is designed to get the victim to NOT focus on their surroundings and to portray the appearance to anyone else that these women are comfortable with each other and may even be acquaintances.

At the first possible chance, they are forced into a vehicle that simply slows down beside them which then speeds away. It is imperative that women recognize this new dynamic in the ever-expanding repertories of techniques, tricks and scams that sex-traffickers are using. Unfortunately, you can no longer conclude that anyone approaching you, male or female is not a threat. Simply remain focused on not just them but your entire surroundings. Do not let them get within arms-reach. Offer to call 911 for them if they need help but do not surrender your phone to a stranger for any reason.

Cop in Hot Water After Handcuffing EMT Just Trying to Care for Patient
. A Rochester police officer is on desk duty after he was caught on camera forcefully handcuffing an emergency medical technician who’d reportedly bumped his squad car with her ambulance door just outside a hospital.

According to News 10 Rochester, the Monroe Ambulance EMT was attempting to unload a patient in the ambulance bay area at Strong Memorial Hospital when she hit the cop’s car. The officer then demanded the EMT give him her identification, but the health-care worker was more concerned about getting the patient inside the hospital for treatment, the report says.
In a video of the incident obtained by News 10, the EMT can be seen standing next to a colleague at the hospital check-in desk with the patient on a stretcher. The investigator, who is wearing a red shirt, then rushes toward the EMT, pushing her into a wall before handcuffing her and escorting her out of the hospital. The medical worker was ultimately released from custody without charges being filed.

The dispatcher, 50-year-old Leon Price, was charged with involuntary manslaughter in Greene County, Pennsylvania. Price refused to send an ambulance in July 2020 when Kelly Titchenell called 911 on behalf of her mother, 56-year-old Diania Kronk, who Titchenell said was "jaundiced, incoherent and bleeding from the rectum," a civil complaint filed by Titchenell said. Both criminal charges and a civil suit have been filed.

Price repeatedly asked Titchenell whether Kronk was "willing to go" to the hospital for treatment, The Associated Press reported. But experts told Insider that an ambulance should have been sent to Kronk's home regardless.
