We want to hear from the people who don't normally get a voice: The Introverts. The working class. The minorities. We want unpopular opinions. We can't give a voice to everyone, but we can give our time to a few.

This is YOUR podcast, and it shares the experiences, reviews and artistic talents of people you've likely never heard of. You won't see many famous names here. What you WILL find, however, are people who will inspire you to create.

We may ask difficult questions sometimes, but we're always willing to listen.

We hope you will, too!

047 - Sandcastles, Solace and Sleep, Poetry by Brandie Whaley & Rose Rooney (Fan Submissions Pt III)

Some time ago, I posted a request on Facebook for fellow writers to share material with me that I might be able to read on my podcast. In episode 045, I read a short story by Bulgarian author Nikola Dimitrov. This episode features some rather haunting poetry by Brandie Whaley and Rose Rooney, respectively.

MILD TRIGGER WARNING. On the subjects of depression, insomnia, homelessness and child abuse, here are some words of depth and wisdom.

042 - The Message Art of Poetry (Interview With African-American Artist Gary Jackson)

This episode is about survival. It's about learning who we are and acknowledging the struggles of others. I had an amazing time recording this interview, even if the internet connection was a little wonky!

Artist, author and poet Gary Jackson had a stroke when he was 10 years old. He spent much of his life recovering from that. However, in 2013 he was then diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, a long-term neuromuscular disease that leads to varying degrees of skeletal muscle weakness, through a series of painful procedures that included being shocked with electricity through needles inserted around his eye socket.

Through all this, he has still be able to create his own Aba Daba Do core fitness tool while having been Life Certified as a Health and Fitness Life Coach. He also has an A.S. in Electronics from The DeVry Institute of Technology.

We are here to let you know that you can overcome.

041 - Making A Name For Yourself During A Pandemic (Interview With Sherry Stuart-Berman)

041 - Making A Name For Yourself During A Pandemic (Interview With Sherry Stuart-Berman)

It often seems impossible to get people to listen to you. Nobody reads your books. Your open mic night is attended by two old ladies and a bunch of crickets. And on top of this, now it seems we have to be afraid even to be near each other. This year has been difficult for everyone, not just writers. But there are paths through the wilderness. In this episode I talk with Sherry Stuart-Berman and how she juggles being a writer, psychotherapist, mother and the wife of a physician's assistant in what some consider to be the COVID epicenter of the world. Sherry also shares with us her poem "Holder", first published by guesthouselit.com

Sherry Stuart Berman is a psychotherapist in private practice. Her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Guesthouse, The Night Heron Barks, Atticus Review, Blue Fifth Review, 2 Horatio, and deLuge Journal, among others, and in the anthologies Malala: Poems for Malala Yousafzai and Drawn to Marvel: Poems from the Comic Books. She lives in Staten Island, NY, with her husband and son.

040 - Living With Alzheimer's (Interview With Peggy Sweeney-McDonald For Alzheimer's/Caretaker's Awareness Month)

I have so much respect for caretakers. Often, they give a substantial portion of their lives in order to make someone's last days less painful and lonely. In many cases, these people are unpaid and never properly thanked.

In this episode I have a heartfelt conversation with Peggy Sweeney-McDonald, who was the primary caretaker for her mother after an Alzheimer's diagnosis changed everything. We talk about love and regret, pain and compassion, and why there is beauty even in the most tragic of circumstances. And on a lighter note, we also talk about why the podcasting community is so completely AWESOME.

FROM SPOTIFY: "Peggy Sweeney-McDonald, actress, producer and author of "Meanwhile, Back at Cafe Du Monde... Life Stories About Food" shares her journey of moving back to Baton Rouge, Louisiana after 36 years when her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. These are her heartfelt stories of love, laughter, loss and life in the A-Zone."

While written from a Christian perspective, "Finding Peace During The Healing Process" is capable of giving piece to anyone. Cassidy A. 038 - (FULL BOOK) The Puppet - Free Poetry Collection On Kindle Unlimited

Presented in its entirety with permission from the author, this is a short yet powerful poetry collection from Sana Rose, author of "Sandcastles" and "The Storyteller".

"These poems are a tribute to all who have survived and dared to stand up and leave. It is a humble attempt to tell the ones who are suffering that is is okay to leave."

If you're a writer, I'd love to have you on my show! It's okay if you haven't written a whole book. It's okay if you're not famous. In fact, if nobody has ever heard of you and your book hasn't sold a single copy, let me know! I'm just trying to share the human experience.

Can't really do that without humans...

037 - We The People (Interview With H. Edward Wynn)

037 - We The People (Interview With H. Edward Wynn)

In the season 3 premiere, I talk with Ed Wynn about the voting process and why we don't know as much as we should. We also discuss media bias, police state, COVID-19, and why the Black Lives Matter movement could be necessary. Here is an excerpt from "We The People":

"As a nation, we’ve become increasingly divided and uncivil. But we’ve always had the power to reclaim our government, find common ground, and solve our biggest problems—even if we didn’t know it.

In We the People, Ed Wynn simplifies US politics and reveals what political extremists and insiders don’t want you to know:

  • How to get the truth and the facts we need to hold our governments accountable
  • How to stop the silencing of moderate voices and end verbal violence
  • How to discover practical, unifying solutions to the most important issues we face

We the People. A phrase so important that it’s the first three words of our Constitution. Together, we have the power to restore our government to serve us all—it’s time we use it."

036 - Season 3 Trailer (Music by Modestas Mankus)

036 - Season 3 Trailer (Music by Modestas Mankus)

How do you affect the world around you? And who are you, when you're not looking in the mirror?

Whether we say it out loud or merely think it, we all want to have a voice. We all want to be heard. And yet so many of us vanish into our homes at the end of the day, curtains drawn.

We struggle to see ourselves. And the person in the mirror is often just a stranger.

I too, am fighting to be heard. And just like there are days when I have to convince myself that it's okay to look in the mirror, so too are there days when I am able to stand tall and smile at the person smiling back at me.

What I've found is this: My happiness comes from art and my ability to create. And what I get out of life depends entirely on what I put into it.

Welcome to season three of The Poetry Novelist Podcast.

I want to hear from the people who don't normally get a voice. The introverts. The working class. The minorities. I want unpopular opinons. I can't give a voice to everyone, but I can give my time to a few.

My podcast shares the experiences, reviews and artistic talents of people you've likely never heard of. You won't see many famous names here. What you WILL find, however, are people who will inspire you to create. These are people who stumble and slip, but can eventually succeed.

I may ask difficult questions sometimes, but I'm always willing to listen.

I hope you will, too!

034 - Flying With Dad (Interview with Yvonne Caputo, daughter of WWII B-24 Navigator Captain Michael Caputo)

AUTHOR CONTACT: yvonneauthor4@gmail.com

Yvonne Caputo has been a story teller going back to her earliest memory at the age of four. As a teacher and a psychotherapist, she has used stories to widen the eyes of the students she has taught and to soften the pain in the hearts of the clients who have come to her. Little did she know that it would be the stories of WWII told to her over the phone that would give her one of the greatest gifts of all. It would give her the father she had always wanted to know .

Her master’s degrees in education and psychology provided her with the ability to listen and respond. Her love of history and travel took her to many of the places her dad would have known in the war. Her husband and children gave her the security to pursue a new career as a writer, and her little house surrounded by trees in rural southeastern Pennsylvania gave her a sense of her own place and an office with a computer.

***SPOILER ALERTS*** In the year 2020, a deadly virus violently decimates humanity, killing billions. The lucky few who manage to survive the virus (and the guards with rifles) take refuge in an enclosed community aptly named, Haven. Every citizen in Haven is expected to be the same, lest they be reported to the authorities. No one really knows what happens when someone is taken by the authorities, save for a select few. But everyone knows the authorities are swift, efficient and ruthlessly unforgiving. Blaike, Haven citizen number 184952B has begun having dreams, shockingly vivid dreams. And that makes him VERY different. Just how far will he go to remain the same? And what will he do when he discovers it's not as simple as he hoped? ********** Join me in part 1 of my interview with the author of INCH, Kenneth James Allen, as we talk about his book and the inspiration for his career in writing!

030 - Book Review - Aisling by Sakshi Arora (Available on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited)

030 - Book Review - Aisling by Sakshi Arora (Available on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited)

"Breathe in poetry and you feel alive/ Let your spilled words caress life/ These pure poetic words heal/ Explore the depth of your heart, feel" AISLING, meaning "dream" or "vision" is a poetic genre that developed during the late 17th and early 18th century in Irish language genre poetry. "Aisling" by Sakshi Arora carries a depth of emotion that many writers swing at and miss. She doesn't lean heavily on substandard rhyme schemes and literal interpretation of feeling. Post-graduated in English literature, Sakshi puts it all on display in her debut collection of illustrated poetry. Stop by and have a listen!

029 - Book Review & Discussion - Antholology of Scrolls by P. A. Wikoff (6-Time Author)

"A book without a reader is merely a piece of paper, slowly turning into dust. It's the reader that lends the words their power. They give the words their tears and emotions. It isn't the great writer who takes you on a journey. It's your own imagination that takes the story for a ride, with the words acting as a guide. This is how all books are so subjective. If it weren't for the reader's interpretation, words would remain meaningless. Just symbols on thin sheets of pulp."

Caleb James' 11th collection of poetry, "Roots Before Branches" possesses a unique writing style in that the reader can rarely pinpoint exactly what mood or emotion he is going to be presenting them with next. At times contemplative, whimsical and even spiritually anarchic, "Roots Before Branches" presents a refreshing look into the subjects of love and self-reflection. Be sure to support the author of this poetry collection by purchasing his collection from Amazon, leaving a review, and following him on Wattpad @calebjames

022 - Book Review - Musing by Prasenjit Chanda (Available for Kindle and Kindle Unlimited)

A couple of weeks ago I took to Instagram and Facebook asking my followers if they had any material that they would like for me to read on my show. Instagram user prasen75098 reached out to me and asked if I would be willing to review his collection of poetry and I was glad to be able to do so. I gave "Musing" a 4-star rating out of 5, as the poetry itself was meaningful and the layout of the book was aesthetically pleasing, although there were some rough areas in regards to Mr. Chanda's transition from his native language into English writing. If you've written a collection of poetry and would like to submit it for review on my show, contact me!

This is a special April Fools' edition of The Poetry Novelist Podcast (No, seriously). In this episode, you'll get to listen to the original audio recording of Smoke & Mirrors that I recorded in 2017. Since there wasn't any music included in the original, I've chosen not to add any here, either. I've done minimal editing on it, which is apparent in the fact that you can hear a slight lack of fullness as well as a bit of an echo in the recording. I hope I've made some progress since I recorded this!

014 - Two Original Short Stories: A Relentless Darkness & The Unblinding Mirror, A Contest (NO ADS)

Two short stories with all mistakes included. The first is my attempt at honoring the late Edgar Allan Poe, using a writing style that I hope is similar enough to his, while remaining unique enough that it isn't insulting. "A Relentless Darkness" is a short story of a man haunted by a spiritual darkness that begins to take on a physical form. "The Unblinding Mirror" is a piece of flash fiction about a blind man who has a unique connection with the mirror in the basement. CONTEST: If you can tell me how "A Relentless Darkness" is connected to "The Rage Virus", I'll give you a shout-out on an upcoming episode for free. PAYPAL: www.paypal.me/thepoetynovelist

The Poetry Novelist podcast is a poetry, fiction and art podcast featuring interviews, book reviews, short stories and poetry by the world's most awkward man. I try to make it a point to feature work by unpublished or undiscovered artists, so don't worry if you're not famous. I try my best to have room for guests as much as possible. If you write, sing or have any creative talent, please reach out to me. You could be my next guest on the show. You probably won't be any more awkward than me!
