During this walk, Anissa reminds us that we are capable of more than we think.  A PG county native, Anissa earned her Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland, College Park. While at UMD, she was a four-year starter on the women’s soccer team and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) executive board member. She also worked multiple part-time jobs and was the programming intern with the Maryland Made student-athlete development team in Summer 2020. In January 2021, she took her creativity and discipline to entrepreneurial life and started Artistic Confections. Artistic Confections is a business dedicated to creating chocolate covered treats for any occasion! All of their treat boxes are custom made to order with fresh strawberries. 3.8 Cultural Community Impact // Niccara Campbell
During this walk, Niccara explains how to use your business to generate cultural community impact.  California born and Baltimore bred, Niccara earned her Bachelor’s degree in African American studies from the University of Maryland, College Park. While at UMD, she was highly engaged in student life and within the local community. Her involvement included but was not limited to the National Council of Negro Women, Student Government Association, City Year, and Congressional Intern for the US House of Representatives. Her student leadership prepared her to pursue a career in the political zoo that is the District of Columbia. In 2015, Niccara founded the lifestyle brand, called “The Urban Tea”. The Urban Tea is a space to find the best of city living no matter the city, while also thriving and trying to find the light. Our guest is also the founder of Urban Charcuterie and Black Girls and Boards - two brands that center Black women and charcuterie boards. During this walk, Resa explains the importance of white allyship in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice work.  A PG county native, Resa competed as a student-athlete at Hampton University, where she earned her Bachelor’s in sport management. She went on to earn her Master’s degree from Old Dominion University before continuing her professional career at George Mason, University of Oregon, and the University of Maryland, College Park. It’s unlikely you’ve never heard of Resa because her presence and leadership has graced countless committees, task forces, and coalitions in higher education over the last decade. 3.6 Take Up Space and Create It // Dr. Cierra Kaler-Jones
During this walk, Dr. Cierra encourages us to both take up space and creates it.  Today we are walking with a social justice educator, creative entrepreneur, and movement and meditation instructor. A New Jersey native and WaWa lover, she earned her Bachelor’s in Social Work from Rutgers University - Douglass Residential College. While at Rutgers, she competed on the University Dance Team, interned with the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey, and represented The Garden State at the 2014 Miss America competition after becoming the second woman of color to secure the title of Miss New Jersey. She went on to earn her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from George Washington University and in March 2021, she successfully defended her dissertation and became a doctor. In 2019, she founded Unlock Your Story -- whose mission is to help us tap into our own stories to unlock the message we’re meant to share bravely with the world. Through connection, equity, truth-telling, and empowerment -- they will build a global community of storytellers committed to transformational healing, justice, and narrative change. 3.5 It's a God Thing // Tasha McCaskiel
During this walk, Tasha tells us why Black Girls in Media is a God thing.  A Charlotte native, Tasha is a community expert, social media strategist, and serial entrepreneur.  Tasha graduated from North Carolina A&T where she earned her Bachelor’s in Journalism and Mass Communications with a concentration in Public Relations While at A&T, she was involved with the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Chapter, The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), and was initiated into the Alpha Phi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She went on to her Master’s degree in Public Relations and Corporate Communications from New York University and recently earned her certificate in Entrepreneurship Essentials from Harvard Business School Online. Tasha's professional work experiences have allowed her to live in both NYC and Los Angeles - as she’s worked with Comedy Central, BET, VH1, and Blavity. But her leadership and creativity created something new. And in February 2018, she became the founder and Executive Director of Black Girls in Media. Black Girls in Media is a networking organization committed to support and uplift minority women in the media industry. Since its inception, Black Girls in Media has amassed over 60k followers on IG and has placed 200 of their members in new media job roles. 3.4 You Gotta Post // Mia Marshall
During this walk, Mia discusses the importance of marketing your Black owned business.  A Georgia native, Mia moved to Boone (NC) where she earned her Bachelor’s in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from Appalachian State University. While at App State, she competed on the women’s basketball team and gained meaningful work experience in several different organizations. While working in college athletics, Mia went on to earn her Master’s degree in Sport Administration from Arkansas State University. During the pandemic, Mia lived turned her quarantine dream into reality and founded her Black owned business, Sculpt Me Body Works. Sculpt Me Body Work is home to small batch handcrafted skincare products that are natural, organic, safe and free of parabens, mineral oils, and other harsh chemicals. Her entrepreneurial spirit carried into 2021, when she co-founded Thick Fit. Thick Fit is an athleisure brand created to inspire women to celebrate their body and look cute while doing it. 3.3 Money Mindset // Kiara McClendon
During this walk, Kiara speaks to us about what it means to have a money mindset.  A New Jersey native, Kiara started her college career at The College of New Jersey before transferring to Rutgers. While at Rutgers, she sang in the gospel choir, interned for Atlantic Records, and worked in the athletic department en route to earning her Bachelor’s in Communication and Africana Studies from Rutgers University. She also earned her Masters in Health Communication from Rutgers before earning her Masters in Sport Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her diverse work experiences reflect her passion for education. As a result, Kiara founded her own business entitled “AForEffort, LLC.” AForEffort, LLC is committed to financial literacy and entrepreneurship education with a deliberate emphasis on empowering communities of color. She is also the creator and author of The Adventures of the Money Mavens brand - a platform that brings cultures together through bi-lingual coloring books that educate children and families about the basics of financial management, generational wealth, and entrepreneurship. During this walk, Christal talks about what it means to know your worth.  A native of Hampton, VA, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Health Science Pre-Clinical from the University of Central Florida. While at UCF, she was a 2x All-American sprinter on the track and field team. She went on to earn her MBA and Master’s in Sport Business Management from the DeVos program at UCF. Originally recognized as a rising star in college athletics, our guest has arrived and is only getting better. Her experiences in career readiness, leadership development, and diversity and inclusion are impressive and make her a significant leader in shaping the future of higher education. 3.1 Give More Grace // Shaykara Waajid
During this walk, Shay asks us to give more grace to Black owned businesses.  A South Carolina native, Shay she earned her Bachelors in the Criminology and Criminal Justice, Pre-Law Studies program at the flagship institution in the Palmetto State, the University of South Carolina. She then went on to earn her MBA, with a concentration in Human Resource Management from Winthrop University. A dynamic talent in the corporate industry, Shay has maneuvered and excelled in several freelance and full-time job assignments, and currently serves as the Sr. Manager for People Operations for a global non-profit organization called Women Who Code. But in 2017, she became the founder and CEO of 3MC Business Solutions. 3MC Business Solutions is a consulting firm dedicated to creating customized solutions for every client they serve. They help small businesses, startups, and nonprofit organizations reach their big goals, despite their budget constraints. Their ethos is equity and they eliminate barriers preventing Black and Brown women entrepreneurs from scaling their business and obtaining or maintaining sustainability. During this walk, Dr. Travers echoes that God is calling us to something greater.  A native of Baltimore, MD, Dr. Travers earned his bachelor's degree in Psychology from Frostburg State University and Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Towson University.  In 2018, he graduated with his PhD in Higher Education and Student Affairs from The Ohio State University. His professional work experiences span across several functional areas in higher education, including but not limited to teaching, mentorship, leadership development, and research. But his impact extends outside of conventional education environments. Dr. Travers currently serves as the Director of Young Adults at New Salem Baptist Church located in Columbus, OH. During this walk, Alexis insists that we operate in our individual gifts.  A South Carolina native, she earned her Bachelors in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of South Carolina. While an undergraduate she was engaged in the Student Advertising Federation, Minority Assistance Peer Program, Homecoming Commission, and the Association of African American Students.  Her professional work experiences span across several industries, though her mission remains the same - to deliver tailor made marketing campaigns that add value, increase brand identity, and generate revenue. In 2015, she founded Shatter the Ceiling, Incorporated - a non-profit organization that provides grants, programming and events to close the corporate diversity gap and provide access to Black and Brown women. Their best-known program is the Shatter The Ceiling Intern Grant, an endowment that provides stipends to women of color completing unpaid + underpaid summer internships. 2.12 Over Time, Not Overnight // Herb Courtney
During this walk, Herb discusses how sustainable change happens over time not overnight.  Originally from Buffalo (NY), he earned his bachelor's degree in hotel restaurant management from the University of Delaware. While an undergraduate, he was a 4-year letter winner on the men's basketball team, 2-time team MVP, and finished his career ranked 10th in scoring in Delaware basketball history. After graduating,  Herb played professional basketball in Argentina, Isreal, and Turkey before returning to work in corporate America. His career pivoted back to athletics, when he started his role as Director of Basketball Operations at Binghamton University. During his almost 7-year stint at Binghamton, he served in several capacities with the men's basketball program including operations and player development, before leading as the assistant basketball coach. But in Jan 2020, he founded his own business and became the chief executive officer. Herb is the founder of Renaissance Search and Consulting (RSC), a Black owned firm whose mission is to connect higher education institutions and corporations with the most qualified and diverse candidates in the world. His experience as a student-athlete, corporate recruiter, professional athlete, and coach provides an unparalleled lens to how he builds relationships and connects talent to opportunity. 2.11 Phenomenally PowHERful // Marissa Robinson
During this walk, Marissa explains why she is committed to magnifying our lens of possibility.  A Delaware native,  she earned her bachelor's degree in special education and psychology from Kean University and her Master's in Sport Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University. While an undergraduate, she was a 2-time captain on the field hockey team, was a member of Division III National SAAC, and was also honored as a Top 30 nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year. Her undergraduate learning experiences lead her to the NCAA National Office - where she first served as an NCAA postgraduate intern. She then spent an additional 3.5 years fostering the growth of future generational leaders as the assistant director of leadership development. In early December 2020, she was named the inaugural Executive Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Georgetown University. Our guest is the co-founder of Phenomenally PowHERful - a digital platform dedicated to sharing stories, life lessons, and advice from phenomenal and powerful women. 2.9 Leadership Has No Age // Kortne Gosha
During this walk, VP Gosha emphasizes why millennials are bout that action.  A native of Birmingham, Alabama, he earned his bachelor's degree from Jacksonville State (s/o to the other Gamecocks!) and his master's degree from Southern New Hampshire University. He got his start in college sport as the Gamecock student manager in 2007 before being hired to a full-time role by his alma mater as the Coordinator of Operations in 2011. Over the last decade, he has spent quality time working in and overseeing several functional areas in college sport - including but limited to equipment operations, facilities, sport medicine, and information technology. His contagious energy, dedication to his craft, and commitment to cultivating universal excellence has trailblazed a life path - illuminated by a shared vision and guided by purpose. And as a result, in November 2019 - he was named the vice president and Director of Athletics at Florida A&M University at the millennial age of 30. During this walk, Kristia shares why millennials just want an opportunity to showcase their talents and gifts.  A self-identified military brat, she is a 3x graduate of the University of Louisville. Kristia holds experiences in student affairs, athletics, human resources - but diversity, equity, and inclusion will always be core to who she is and how she conducts her practices. When she is not sharing #WorthyNotes or discussing #TransPARENTcy, you can find her and her partner making TikTok videos - hopefully one of them goes viral by the end of this episode.  Kristia is a leadership facilitator, Zumba instructor, and millennial mother. She is a current MBA candidate at Lipscomb University, where she will graduate in December 2020.
