I work with moms to change their relationship about money and then we dive into how to manage their money and set themselves and their kids up for life."

Beckie is a Children’s Well-being Mentor and yoga and meditation teacher. She has created a holistic well-being programme for children called SHINE Brightly

She uses mindful movement, meditation and mindset activities to support children in understanding they are whole, perfect and worthy of all that they desire about so that they are inspired to live into the most authentic and joyful expression of themselves.

Beckie believes that if children have the opportunity to experience well-being modalities such as yoga, meditation, breathing and relaxation exercises, reiki and tapping they can learn to use these tools independently and feel inspired to SHINE Brightly.

Together with the young people she works with she cultivates a brave space in which to explore their experiences and feelings and learn about being kind to themselves, being true to themselves and being aware of their potential for impact in the world.

This enables them to grow up less encumbered by the stories and limiting beliefs that so many of us spend so much time in adulthood unlearning.

As a Children’s Well-being Mentor, Beckie’s role is to hold space for young people, to support them and guide them as they explore all of this and more.

It takes a village to develop social and emotional literacy and to nurture a safe, trusting, and effective learning and teaching environment for both teachers and students. Building partnership is key to A New Paradigm of Education. This project BE THE PEACE, BE THE HOPE is created through Social and Emotional education using Arts and Mindfulness. Students received practical teaching and effective tools to understand and cope with emotions, maintain healthy relationships through non-violent communication, practice self-control, deal with stress, be self motivated and practice time management. They learned how to create a safe place where they can connect as a community and get to know each other.

In this episode Monique Sayers and Carrie Jeroslow talk with Joe Dougherty from Yadkin Valley Community School. This school includes Montessori Education and is all about community, nature-based learning, cosmic education and a place where every child is met where they are at. There are no teachers, instead classroom guides. Some of their key values are:

• Multi-age classrooms are beneficial. It is important to educate the whole child.
• Every child learns in a unique way and at a different pace.
• Kids should be inspired to learn, not forced or bribed.
• It is beneficial to be a part of the community and have parent and community involvement.
• Traditional homework in the early grades has little effect on academic success.

Joe Dougherty teaches 3rd through 5th grades. He is also the “homeroom” and science teacher for the middle school. Before joining the Yadkin Valley Community School, Joe taught science at Lewisville Elementary School. He has also taught at the Migrant Workers Head Start in Boonville and as a secondary school English teacher in Nicaragua. His enthusiasm and creativity shine through in his lesson plans, and his laugh is contagious. In addition to his teaching experience, Joe brings a unique set of skills that will enhance the classroom. He plays the guitar and loves to incorporate music into his lessons. He is also a farmer (which comes in very handy with our garden in the outdoor classroom).

Sian Goodspeed ran a farm-based project for The Harmony Project which is a charitable organisation led by Richard Dunne. It provides schools & educators with a framework that aims to put Nature's principles at the heart of teaching and learning. It is currently being implemented in a number of schools. The aim of the project is to introduce home educating families to the Harmony principles within the context of the farm and through the three key areas of: harmony with self, harmony with others and harmony with Nature.

In this episode Monique Sayers  and Trudy Keating speak with Gemma Hindley about how to support children with social, emotional needs and development rather than the old term of "special educational needs." You will hear real life examples from Gemma as a parent of children with special needs and Trudy Keating who is a teacher of over 20 years. Together they give us some practical tips on how to approach schooling by not accepting its current status and asking for new pathways of connection, collaboration and communication. 

Gemma is a parent of children with special educational needs, worked supporting children in schools for over 15 years, a certified Mindset and Mindfulness Coach and Qualified Yoga Teacher.  She now runs a Facebook group called SEND Parents Well-being and Powerful Advocacy Project, working with parents struggling to get the support their children need to access education. SEND stands for "Special Educational Needs," but we could refer to this as social, emotional, needs and development in a new paradigm of education.

In this episode Monique Sayers speaks with Jaki Rigg from  Dream School about how to create your own homeschooling hubs and communities. As homeschooling parent of two, educator and creator of the Dream School, Jaki discusses a range of aspects around pedagogy, values, community and play. It is not schooling, but rather about learning from life and play that form a new paradigm of education. 

Jaki Rigg has rarely been apart from the education scene. Completing a degree in Education and a post- graduate diploma in International Development (including a year-long foray into war-torn Somalia), her professional career has been almost entirely focused on education, spanning continents, states and systems, both private and public.

Despite all this exposure, it took listening to Sir Ken Robinson’s 2006 TED talk entitled, “How Schools Kill Creativity”, to bring a shocking realization of the inadequacies and indeed, destructive methodologies of the current mode of learning prevalent all around the world. For the sake of saving and nurturing the creative capacity of her young children, Jaki then began a journey of discovery into how we best learn, how this could translate into a community setting, and how this model could work and function in every context on earth. What has sprung from this research and investigation, was an experiment in education called Dream School. After seven years of molding and refining the Dream School model, Jaki has nailed the elements of learning that cause, not just children, but whole families and communities, to thrive.

 Marieke believe that education should be empowering people to find the wisdom within - instead of looking for it outside themselves.. Connecting with our inner guru, trusting our intuition, knowing who we are as a human. The better we know who we are, the better choices we can make. This is the way she teaches her work - so people can become there own healer in her women's retreats in Bali.

In this episode Monique Sayers speaks with Anja Simmons about homeschooling and yoga for children. Anja provides us with some demonstrations that we can do with our children for them to be more calm.   

Anja is a Trained British Nanny, yoga teacher, parenting coach, and mother of two. After a decade of raising the children of other families, it came as a surprise when Anja's experience didn't quite apply when it came time to raise her own. It wasn't until she discovered yoga that she realized that while raising her children, she was also raising herself.  Anja is a retreat and space holder for women around the world. She hosts Parenting Differently Podcast and coaches parents. One of her most memorable, out-of-comfort-zone memories was when she starred in the Vagina Monologues. It was exhilarating, considering vagina wasn’t even a common word in her vocabulary. Anja's first book, Parent From This Place. How yoga changed the way I parent, is now out on Amazon.com
