Why Should We Meditate: The Power of Mindfulness

Why Should We Meditate: The Power of Mindfulness

Meditation is a form of presence, allowing us to be with our true self, allowing us to be with what is. It is the practice of focus, loss of focus and the regain of focus. The ability to be with our thoughts that arise with no judgment, letting go of control and allowing these thoughts to pass through us. When we notice the mind wandering, we practice the return to the breath which cultivates attention and mindfulness. Learning how to return and remain in the present moment, anchoring ourselves in the here to respond with purpose and intent.

Mindfulness practice takes patience and yields higher awareness. Practicing mindfulness allows us to recognize when the mind goes on "auto-pilot", which is when the mind takes off exploring past/future scenarios instead of the present moment. When we have this ability to recognize this, we can decide to take a pause and choose what we want to focus on instead.

By cultivating this awareness in our lives we can choose how we want to show up, relate to, respond to and view the circumstances and world around us. This practice offers a pocket of stillness and space to pay attention to the mind, body and spirit together. In repeating this practice every day, the changes in our lives can be subtle but profound. Altering the way we see ourselves and others.

Mindfulness & Meditation is for everyone, all ages and all walks of life who want to dive deeper to understand themselves better.

How to Create Boundaries AND Have Compassion

How to Create Boundaries AND Have Compassion

The recognition of personal space, personal values and personal needs define our boundaries. Understanding that we have a choice to be active or passive in our responses. To create and to have boundaries are a necessary part of our self-love and self-care. It's also healthy and beneficial to have these boundaries when interacting with others and having relationships. In creating boundaries we can naturally become more compassionate towards ourselves and others. Because the way to establish our boundaries is to truly know the self, to dive deeper within and to understand our deepest wounds or triggers. In becoming aware of this journey to the darker depths we discover the light that can then be spread to others. Brene Brown says that compassion is not a virtue -- it is a commitment. It's not something we have or don't have -- it's something we choose to practice.

In Radical Acceptance, Tara Brach explains compassion and awareness are the two ‘wings’ of self-acceptance. In being aware, we can understand the reality of the situations and emotions around us. Having compassion for ourselves honors this process. Together, we can practice and come to self-acceptance. The route to compassion is not easy and has to be cultivated.  “Compassionate people ask for what they need. They say no when they need to, and when they say yes, they mean it. They're compassionate because their boundaries keep them out of resentment.” - Brene Brown

Through self-acceptance we can begin to live a conscious and aligned life, but this also requires us to be clear on our choices, limits and boundaries.

The Art of Surrendering: Letting Go of Control

The Art of Surrendering: Letting Go of Control

What does it mean to Surrender? In this episode, Megan & Leilah introduce the topic via COVID-19 Mindful Consumption tips. They expand on what they have been doing to take care of themselves in order to take care of others. Then they explain that these adjustments and shifts have been in favor of surrendering to what is.

Surrendering is difficult because we often find ourselves wanting to put our input, our two cents in making things happen or taking control of the situation. We try to control things because of what we think will happen if we don't intervene. Control is rooted in fear and the attachment of a specific outcome. In order to fully surrender to life, we must begin to allow ourselves to let go of this tight grip. In giving up control, we are able to take a step back and allow things to happen with the trust of The Universe. Can we begin to stop fighting ourselves and The Universe? Can we stop resisting the natural flow of things and stop resisting and pushing against reality?

The Universe is on our side, wholeheartedly.  It has our back, and it's rooting for us. Let's lean in, have gratitude and faith for this higher presence and cosmic unfolding in order to let go towards our freedom.

Spiritual Activism IS For Everyone

Spiritual Activism IS For Everyone

From The Network of Spiritual Progressives: A spiritual activist is one who is a courageous warrior of love! Being a spiritual activist means working to create a loving, just, sacred, and sustainable world through means that are also loving, just, sacred, and sustainable. A spiritual activist practices empathy in word and deed as a way to build beloved communities and transform consciousness.

What we do makes such a difference in this world and we all have the decision to decide what KIND of difference we can make. Most of the times we think to ourselves, ‘Who am I to do this? How does just 1 person make a difference? Well I’m sure someone else can do it instead…’ We live off this Bystander Effect and on the idea that we can pawn off responsibility to others and that our contribution doesn’t truly matter. But imagine if instead of thinking this way — we all grasped that our choices MATTER in all that we do.

Society can attempt to harden and frighten us, to make us lower our voice and discourage us from speaking up. We must choose to consciously rise above these negative forces in order to stand up together as a collective. Spiritual Activism is leading with our purest heart's intention. We can do this in many aspects of our lives whether it is politically with our votes, in the workplace in who we choose to support and stand by, or whether it is everything that we consume. We have a say in everything that we purchase and where we put our dollars. We must be mindful of what we are consuming and practice consciousness in each facet of our lives. Spiritual Activism IS for everyone and together we CAN create a sustainable and beloved community.

The Road Less Traveled Pt. 2

The Road Less Traveled Pt. 2

In this next podcast episode, Megan and Leilah talk about how the road less traveled can sometimes be a lonely one, but one that essentially yields to a more wholesome life. First, it all begins with the self. In truly healing and aligning with who we really are, we contribute to the healing of the world. We let go of things that have attempted to harden us and allow for our true being to arise. By understanding who we are and knowing our worth — we then can consciously filter out those not meant for us. This allows us to align with those who are on the same path as us and who can support us in the ways that we need. A consistent and authentic support system can then lead us to finding our passions, to a more fulfilling purpose and an aligned career path.

Howard Thurman, says "Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive". Therefore, instead of falling into the trap of pursuing useless material things, endless voids or unhealthy toxic patterns, ask yourself is that who you really ARE and is that what you really NEED? The world is in desperate need of those who are connected to their higher purpose and who are aligned to their truest passions. Because the people who are fulfilled are the ones who are truly living, who feel true happiness, who feel unconditional love and contentedness. Listen in to hear about the tools that can lead us there.

Check Your Ego, Amigo

Check Your Ego, Amigo

Osho says, "The ego lives in the tension between what you are and what you want to be." In this second episode, Megan & Leilah dive deeper into topics surrounding what ego really means and how it affects our daily lives. The ego works to protect our dignity and to keep us comfortable not to make us truly happy.  In this conversation we find out that essentially true happiness is the death of the ego. That we can gradually move from identifying with the ego to identifying with the soul the more we take part in our spiritual practices and meditations. Because when we spend time in stillness with ourselves we can show up as our fullest self in all aspects of our lives.
