B Side - #BrokenRecord

B Side - #BrokenRecord

In this fourth episode of A Zoom With A View, Sammy, Cliff and Stuart are joined by two guests providing another perspective on the UK parliamentary inquiry into the economics of music streaming - the independent labels and artists who are successful in the digital world.

Lauren Walker is an independent artist whom is self-funded and records, releases, and markets her music as ‘Eurielle'. On the podcast, she speaks openly about her music industry experiences, how well she is doing and why she’s a fan of music streaming. Paul Pacifico is CEO of the Association of Independent Music, the UK-based trade body for independent record labels to explain how his members both survive and thrive in the streaming era, and how many of the issues around artists contracts don’t necessarily apply to independent label contracts.

Together the team discuss what many independent artists and labels think of the economics of music streaming, how it differs from the analogue world and their hopes for the DCMS Inquiry into this subject.
