Careless In The Care Of God

A podcast to capture a bit of where our children are at, their thoughts on homeschool, travel, life together as a family and a wide range of other topics. This is our way of saying thanks to their mother on this day that reminds us of the beauty of a mother and their care for their children. It's a snapshot of our kids and where they sit this year of 2022. This is a great episode filled with funny laughter and conversations and some tender moments as children speak of the significance of their mom. 

We finish up chapter 2 of Love is Now by Peter Gilquist. Our problem isn't that we have failed at the Christian solutions of going to church, praying, reading our Bibles...it's that we have forgotten that we are forgiven.

The end of the book! What if God painted the sunsets not just to show you His power, but also to show you how much you are loved by Him?

The meaning of true friendship comes from a life lived well together. 

Can we be more than a critic and also walk the fine line of being kind to others without falling into the legalistic pot hole that the 20th century church created. 

Who is it that counts? The critic or the person who jumps in the arena? What is our role as believers in the future of the Church? A discussion about our times and troubles and how being people who know and freely share about the God who calms fears is better than a person who knows the nuances of dispensational theology. 

What is the role of the believer in Justice? How are we to handle the sadness, frustration and injustice we see? 

Hard times flush out the chumps - what would the church look like if it was more interested in the care of others instead of its influence on politics? Instead of lamenting about the degradation of culture, maybe those of us as believers would be better invested in loving one another and sharing kindness, gentleness, patience, self-control and other spirt led attitudes instead of hoping that democracy solves our lack of influence. 

Rules or Response? Efficiency or Freedom? What is it that God is after in His relationship with us? 

our firm decision is to work from this focused cetner: One man died for everyone. Tired of always feeling short and a failure? God isn't keeping that kind of score.

Looking for a bigger god? Maybe one that transcends if the New England Patriots win the super bowl or not? This is the theme of this episode. 

Final excerpt from chapter 4 - But I Know Myself Too Well 

A conversation on the philosophy of humanity. Are we inherently good or evil? What happens in a messy world where things don't always turn out like we want?

Here is the start of Chapter 4 - I'm A Horrible Failure - Finally Some relief. This includes an excerpt from a Christmas narrative I had the chance to write. It is my take on the Christmas story and it's meaning to the everyday experience of believers.

Pain is hard. We all have it, and there isn't a solution on earth that can destroy it. This episode is a lesson from the prodigal son parable - but not the one you might be used to. 

What do we as believers owe the most broken and hurting amongst us? Judgment? Condemnation? The right political party vote? Not likely - Jesus seems to call us to another opportunity. One that is based on kindness, loving of our neighbor and recognition of His good gift to us. 

Why talk about Mike Warnke? Because he is a visible representation of the ills of the church and its self-righteous condemning spirit. 

Few can live in the paradox that we have little to do with the work of God in Someone else's live - and fewer can live in joy knowing that their responsibility to their own salvation is limited only to their belief. 

Continuing Chapter 1 and the segment on Behavioral Jesus. A discussion on the idea that God is not interested in us having a Grave Tending life - bur rather one of adventure. 

Jesus didn't come to make a list of things for us to do. He was never intended to be the nanny or school master making sure we kept ourselves in line. He isn't interested in how well we look, how well we behave or what we know - only that we love our neighbor and God.
