He's a Polish citizen but at the time of this recording he was calling Vietnam home, and has also lived all over Europe, the US, and Southeast Asia. Chase and Iwo dive into all aspects of life in Vietnam and the path he took to making the dream to move there, a reality. They touch on visa options and renewals, the cost of living, and the ups and downs of life in Vietnam. They also discuss the pros and cons of different styles of long-term travel, hidden gems, and tainted tourist traps in SE Asia, and where the next "go-to places to live abroad" might be. Iwo has been featured by Forbes and the BBC, alongside countless other publications worldwide, so I was honored he carved out some time for a brand new podcast back in 2021.  This episode was previously aired on March 19, 2023 and is one of our listeners’ all time favorites! Ending Portugal’s NHR tax incentive & getting the Digital Nomad Visa

Ending Portugal’s NHR tax incentive & getting the Digital Nomad Visa

A few weeks ago the Portuguese government suddenly announced the intention to end their Non-Habitual Residents (NHR) program - a tax incentive that has lured countless foreigners to Portugal since its inception 15 years ago. This proposal suggests the program will no longer be available to anyone after December 31, 2023, and some headlines seem to suggest that Portugal is no longer in the business of wanting to attract expats and digital nomads. But as I discussed with Diana Andrade, Head of Portugal Immigration at Lexidy Law, this is definitely not the case and there are still many questions yet to be answered. Today Diana and I dive into the changes coming with NHR and a potential new tax incentive coming to replace it. We also dive into the Portuguese Digital Nomad visa and the D7 visa, as well as all the other reasons to move to Portugal, beyond tax incentives. Exploring expat life in Kenya and world travels as a family

Matthew Grollnek left California nearly 20 years ago, joined the Peace Corps, and a few months later found himself in rural Zambia sitting around a fire trying to speak Bemba with the locals he now called his neighbors. In this episode we explore Kenya and Zambia specifically, but more generally we focus on subjects ranging from traveling with a family to immigrating to Africa, and the evolution of several nearby countries that are emerging as top travel destinations. Converting traditional roles to remote + month-to-month nomading and Peru

Grayson Harris has been traveling the world for the last few years, staying for a month at a time in various countries, and crossing off bucket list items ranging from celebrating Argentina’s world cup victory in Buenos Aires to surfing in Sri Lanka, and even introducing his dad to nomad life in Portugal. He has a long list of entertaining stories to tell, but perhaps most interesting is the fact that he managed to convert his traditional job as an electrical engineer into a location independent role that matched his lifelong dream to live on the road. Today he is living that dream and helping others at his engineering firm do the same. In this episode Grayson shares tips on how to pitch transitioning your traditional career to remote, the changes traditional companies can make to take advantage of the shift towards workplace flexibility, and his tips for aspiring digital nomads. We also talk about his current location, Peru, and trade a bunch of travel stories from around the world!

This leads us into a deeper discussion about some of the downsides of the traveling lifestyle, which are often overlooked in the glamorized version of expat/nomad life, and spans a variety of topics, from building community, misplacing identity, and missing the comforts of home, to portfolio careers, 75 Hard, and the dizziness of choice, Chase’s future plans, and many others. How to move to Greece w/ the Greek Digital Nomad Visa

Eleftheria Charalambous is the Head of Greek Immigration at Lexidy Law in Athens, Greece. Originally from Cyprus, she made her way to Greece years ago, and today she specializes in helping digital nomads and aspiring expats take advantage of the opportunity to come and live in this incredible country. Today we dive into our mutual love for Greece - the food, people, landscapes, history, culture, etc - but most importantly, perhaps the best digital nomad visa in the world. As we come to learn, many remote workers could easily obtain the Greek DN visa via a predominantly virtual process, stay in the Schengen and Greece for multiple two-year stints, eventually obtain permanent residency, all without having to pay Greek taxes. We dive into all of this and much more in this episode of About Abroad!

Everyone’s immigration situation is unique and in order to properly evaluate your options, you should speak with a legal representative who specializes in this line of work. European vanlife & remote work on the road w/ the Founder of The Van Code

Tomas Hartvig is originally from Denmark but eight years ago his company gave him the opportunity to work remotely, so he traded the cold winters in Copenhagen for the sunny south of Spain. Life was good in España, but Tomas needed to see more of the world, so he decided to pursue a passion project - building his own campervan. Today he lives in that van full-time, traveling around Europe with his partner and pup, and working full-time from his mobile office. Tomas proves you don’t have to choose between a career and adventure - he’s thriving professionally on this journey - representing major brands such as EA Sports while simultaneously launching The Van Code, a company, app, and book, focused on helping others live the vanlife. Today we dive into his story, sharing many tips, highlights, challenges, and stories from the road.  Connect and learn more about Tomas' work at: Website - https://thevancode.com & https://tomassively.com My LinkedIn profile - https://es.linkedin.com/in/tomashartvig Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/thevancodecom/ and https://www.instagram.com/thevanture/ This episode was brought to you by Lexidy, the team of lawyers and advisors I trust for all my visa, tax, and property challenges in Spain, Greece, Italy, France & Portugal. Navigating a move to The Netherlands

Navigating a move to The Netherlands

The Netherlands “just works”, and for that reason it is (perhaps surprisingly) one of the most popular countries in the world to move to. From exciting cities like Amsterdam and Rotterdam, to the great infrastructure and social safety net, to the massive international community where nearly everyone speaks English - there are a lot of reasons to consider spending significant time here. But navigating the system can be challenging, and there are, of course, cultural and bureaucratic aspects of a transition to Holland that only someone who has actually done it, can attest to. So in this episode we sit down with Jelena Mikic, a Serbian expat who made that move and now helps other foreigners follow in her footsteps as the Co-founder of Move To NL.

How to move to France w/ The American in Paris

Stephen Heiner has been living abroad in France for the past decade and as the creator of TheAmericanInParis.com and many other courses, services, and content related to moving to France, he can quickly dismiss any notion that France is not “open for business” when it comes to attracting foreigners. Whether you want to move to the French Alps, Paris, the Mediterranean, or wine country - no doubt this country has a ton to offer, and Stephen’s personal story might inspire you to follow in his footsteps.

Exploring Senegal & West Africa with Weh’yee Barkon

Weh’yee Barkon is the Co-Founder of Internally, a company focused on facilitating investment in Africa and pairing Africa’s top remote talent with companies around the world. He relocated from the US to Senegal after leaving his San Francisco tech career, with a one-way ticket in hand, and a loose plan to live a more balanced life abroad, and build something that he was passionate about along the way. Weh’yee is thriving in Dakar and today he takes us on a quick tour of one of Africa’s most vibrant countries, shares his story, and speaks to the wave of entrepreneurship and energy sweeping through the continent.
