Chris Roberts: The Taser-wielding Whisky Connoisseur who Hacks Airplanes

Chris Roberts: The Taser-wielding Whisky Connoisseur who Hacks Airplanes

It's nearly impossible to operate in the information security space and not know the name Chris Roberts: Chris is one of the world's foremost experts on counter threat intelligence and vulnerability research. In 2015 he earned international fame after demonstrating an exploit which allowed him to hack flight control systems via the in flight entertainment on an airplane. That story, Chris' research, and his journey has been covered by several tech publications and news outlets, including CNN, The Washington Post, WIRED, Business Insider, USA Today, Forbes, Newsweek, BBC News, Wall Street Journal, and several others.

I recently sat down with the beard-sporting, whisky-enthusiast to answer one question: Who is Chris Roberts? Over the course of 30 minutes, Chris and I chat about everything, ranging from philosophy, daily routines, encounters with law enforcement, the value of bug bounty programs, and the disconnect between digital security and security in the physical world, and much more.
