Exclusive: Let It Rain- A Conversation with Action Filmmaker Brandon Slagle of Breakout & The Flood!

Exclusive: Let It Rain- A Conversation with Action Filmmaker Brandon Slagle of Breakout & The Flood!

Action filmmaker Brandon Slagle has quickly become my go to guy for getting my adrenaline fix on streaming sites. Coincidentally, Slagle started with horror films as a director but has since moved into the high-octane game and with fine results I might add. Slagle helmed last year’s Battle for Saipan which made it onto my best of 2022 list with its eclectic mix of war action and devastating hand to hand combat. Slagle is now officially one of my top five indie action directors per Action-Flix and watching a movie helmed by the filmmaker will tell you that he’s a lover of old school action movies. After all, those that respect and love the action genre are the ones that know how to effectively put it on the screen and Slagle is top tier. From bullet riddled pics like Breakout to the upcoming release of The Flood which is an awesomely rad looking mash up of the horror pics JAWS, Alligator and the iconic actioner Assault on Precinct 13, Brandon Slagle is currently En Fuega when it comes to the realm of Indie Action Cinema Magic. On this episode of the Action Fix Podcast, Slagle stops by to talk about his career, getting started and his music endeavors as well. We also go through his filmography gauntlet including past action offerings like Escape from Ensenada, Crossbreed, and Attack of the Unknown. Slagle gives us all the behind the scenes intel on his films including his recent hits Battle for Saipan, Breakout and the upcoming The Flood which is due to hit Theaters, On Demand and Digital on July 14, 2023. It's Action Filmmaker Brandon Slagle on this episode of The Action Fix Podcast! Buckle Up!

Review: Thomas Jane & Jesse V. Johnson Deliver Stone Age Justice in the Bullet Infused ONE RANGER!

Review: Thomas Jane & Jesse V. Johnson Deliver Stone Age Justice in the Bullet Infused ONE RANGER!

Filmmaker Jesse V. Johnson is back in the director's chair and this time he's doing what he does best as he gives us the old-school action-packed thriller One Ranger starring The Punisher himself Thomas jane in a role he was meant to play. One Ranger stars Jane as a Texas Ranger circa Nick Notle's Jack Benteen in Extreme Prejudice as he unites with an MI-6 operative played by his The Expanse co-star Dominiquie Tipper. From opening salvo to the last gun discharge, Johnson and Jane deliver stone age justice with action sequences featuring Johnson's signature and brutal violence. There's firepower and fisticuffs aplenty to be enjoyed by genre fans and this is one film you will definitely want to add to your filmography arsenal. On this episode of The Action Fix Podcast, I break down what makes this a solid throwback style action pic with a could give a shit character actor like Jane running the gauntlet of bad guys. Take a look at the episode now as One Ranger is Action-Flix Approved!!!

GI JOE: How America’s Special Missions Force can Survive Theatrically & More!

GI JOE: How America’s Special Missions Force can Survive Theatrically & More!

You all know that I'm a GI Joe fan. Yes, from the late "70's when the toy line was but a few characters who were much bigger than the 80's line to today, I bleed YO Joe from sunup to sundown. When Marvel introduced the comic book and subsequent toy line in 1982, I was 9 years old, so this was right in my wheelhouse as I was the perfect age for what they were selling. The characters, the vehicles, the action were all to die for and GI JOE was always more for me then the Transformers. Sorry fans of the latter but I have always been a military action junkie so they always won out over robots changing into vehicles. Even more so, I am a huge super nerd for anything Snake Eye related as he has and will always be my favorite character in this or any other film or TV property. Snake is the perfect bad ass as he is not just a Ninja but he's a Ninja Commando. Mind blown as a 9-year-old kid. Storm Shadow was just as killer in my eyes and I was always excited to read of their exploits in the comics and performed many battles of my own between the two with my action figures. As I type this, they are well represented behind me on my wall and bookcase. Well, as a fan from the beginning, I have a few ideas for what to do next with the property. I still feel that GI JOE would flourish as a series of films on a streaming site like Paramount Plus who owns the rights or as a series that can delve even more into the larger stories this property has to offer.

Brandon Lee Retrospective: Celebrating a Martial Arts Legend & His Films

Brandon Lee Retrospective: Celebrating a Martial Arts Legend & His Films

30 years ago this year, the martial arts community was devastated when actor, and son of Bruce Lee, Brandon Lee was killed while filming The Crow.
Brandon was something special. He was in the shadows of his famous father for his whole life, but he was just starting to emerge into the light and make a name for himself as not only an action star but a genuine Hollywood star.
What could have been. Lee only made a handful of films with 1992’s Rapid Fire being his only true to the word, full-blown action flick along with Showdown in Little Tokyo (I don’t count Laser Mission).
It was 30 years ago this year that we lost a rising star who was full of so much potential. I often think about if Lee was still alive to this day what he would have accomplished in film.
This one hit hard and still stings to this day but on this episode of The Action Fix Podcast, we celebrate the man who was taken away from us way too soon and his film legacy that he left us. I am joined by Shane “The Action Nerd” Loggains of The Action Nerd (Dudes Being Dudes Talking About Movies) Podcast to celebrate the man and his films. Rapid Fire, Showdown in Little Tokyo and, of course, The Crow, we cover it all as well as some not so worthy films like Laser Mission. It’s a special remembrance on this episode of The Action Fix!

The Action Fix Podcast Review: JOHN WICK CHAPTER 4 is Action Perfection

The Action Fix Podcast Review: JOHN WICK CHAPTER 4 is Action Perfection

After a long delay, the last salvo in the John Wick franchise (at least for now) has finally assaulted theaters this weekend and the fourth entry in the blockbuster saga is worthy of being called one of, if not the, greatest action movies of all time. From Keanu Reeves returning as the lone wolf assassin John Wick to the stellar supporting cast that includes martial arts action stars Donnie Yen, Scott Adkins, Hiroyuki Sanada and Marko Zaror, Chapter 4 is action nirvana and the reason why us fans worship this genre like a religion. The action set pieces crafted by director Chad Stahelski and the 87Eleven Action Design team are equal to none and each hyper-kinetic sequence is worthy of being a finale in most action films. The John Wick franchise has reinvented the genre and the fourth installment is the most brutal, heartfelt and bone crunching yet. On this episode of The Action Fix Podcast, I give my thoughts on why this is essential action viewing and why we need more action cinema like John Wick. It's more 5 star review of John Wick Chapter 4on this episode of The Action Fix Podcast. Enjoy!

Exclusive Interview: "Flamingo!" A Conversation with Action Star Sarah Chang of ACCIDENT MAN 2!

Exclusive Interview: "Flamingo!" A Conversation with Action Star Sarah Chang of ACCIDENT MAN 2!

In the realm of action cinema, Sarah Chang is a genuine threat. The Wushu trained martial arts champion, actress, fight coordinator and most important of all, mother of two gave one of the best performances in last year's Scott Adkins led sequel Accident Man: Hitman's Holiday as Wong Su-Ling who is ally and abuser to Adkins' Mike Fallon. Chang stole the show in so many ways and the actress has all the potential to become the next Michelle Yeoh to which many are dubbing her. Sarah stopped by The Action Fix Podcast at Action-Flix.com to chat about her martial arts training, film career, working with her husband Vincent Soberano and also about being a mom. We also chat about Accident Man and working with action star Scott Adkins and what it's like to take him on in a fight scene. This is a special candid chat with one of action cinema's rising female stars and she's a fan of the website as well so how friggin' cool is that. It's our exclusive conversation with Sarah Chang on this episode of The Action Fix Podcast. Flamingo!!!

Exclusive Interview: The Night Slasher Returns! A Conversation with Genre Actor Brian Thompson!

Exclusive Interview: The Night Slasher Returns! A Conversation with Genre Actor Brian Thompson!

It's the second pinch me moment in as many days as today I had the distinct pleasure to chat with genre icon Brian Thompson who is best known for his roles in Terminator, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Lionheart with JCVD and of course as the infamous Night Slasher in Sylvester Stallone's classic 1986 cop actioner Cobra. His role in that film remains to this day one of the scariest and most formidable opponents in action cinema and gave Sly a run for his money. Being in the industry for forty years now, Brian has well over 100 credits in his filmography arsenal and is still going strong today. Brian is currently being seen in a new short action movie that has surfaced after forty years called Firefight which hails from filmmaker Sheldon Lettich. Made on a shoestring budget, this tale of soldiers in Vietnam trying to evacuate their wounded while fighting off a surge of Viet Gong soldiers is a lightning paced war thriller that showcases what you can do with passion, heart and a cast and crew that are determined to make the best film possible. Brian took the time out of his busy schedule to talk to me about the short film as well as his career. he gives great anecdotes about Cobra and many other projects he has been in, and this is a must listen for any serious action cinema fan. " I want your eyes pig!" It's Brian Thompson on this episode of The Action Fix!!!

EXCLUSIVE: A Conversation with Genre Icon Michael Ironside!

It’s one of those pinch me moments once again on this latest episode of the Action Fix Podcast here at Action-Flix.com. I just had the greatest chat with one of my favorite genre actors of all time. I’ve been there since the early 80’s with him and he has given me countless hours of entertainment to this day. He’s Jester in Top Gun, Major Paul Hackett in Extreme Prejudice, Ham Tyler in V and of course Richter in Total Recall. That’s right, it’s the one and only Michael Ironside. Responsible for so many memorable roles in TV and film, Mr. Ironside chatted with me about his latest thriller Confession. The film deals with a heavy subject of date rape and the versatile thespian plays the grizzled, embattled police detective assigned to the case. REVIEW: Alexander Nevsky Hits the Target in GUNFIGHT AT RIO BRAVO!

I'm a little late to the party with my review of Alexander Nevsky's first foray into the western genre with Gunfight at Rio Bravo but it's finally here and with the film readying a UK release, well then I'm early in that regard. The former 3X Mr. Universe turned action star and filmmaker has issued several indie action films to date but with his first six-barrel blazing western, Nevsky has finally found his signature character and a potential franchise in the making. Check out what i have to say about the movie that boasts a great 90's DTV action cast in Olivier Gruner and Matthias Hues below!

REVIEW: Tony Schiena is THE WEAPON

It's a week in since I had my shoulder surgery and the reviews are starting to flow through me and next up on the Action Fix Podcast is the newly release The Weapon starring Tony Schiena, Sean Patrick Flanery and Cuba Gooding Jr. Schiena has always been one of my favorite action tough guys and I feel he is severely underrated in action cinema. Unfortunately, The Weapon which he also directed, shows its low budget and never rises above its muddy plot. Check out what else I have to say on this episode of The Action Fix Podcast!

Exclusive Interview: Creating Accidents & Chaos- A Conversation with Accident Man: Hitman's Holiday Directors The Kirby Brothers!

Exclusive Interview: Creating Accidents & Chaos- A Conversation with Accident Man: Hitman's Holiday Directors The Kirby Brothers!

Virtually seeming like they came out of nowhere, the filmmaking tandem of The Kriby Brothers, AKA George and Harry Kirby are about to become household names in the action genre. The Kirby Brothers have taken over the Accident Man franchise starring action phenom Scott Adkins and with its sequel, Accident Man: Hitman's Holiday, poised and ready to hit theaters and VOD this Friday, October 14th, they have literally directed one of the best action movies of 2022 and this was their debut effort. Filled with enough breakneck Hong Kong style martial arts fight action to fill two movies, the film also boasts some of the funniest and laugh riot moments in recent history. Jesse V. Johnson helmed the first film which is based on the character Mike Fallon, AKA Accident Man, which was created by Pat Mills in 1991 in the underground UK comic Toxic! Adkins’ longtime collaborator Stu Small returns to pen the sequel. The popular character got his nickname due to the fact that he was an assassin who made his hits look like accidents. George and Harry have cut their teeth in the industry and has managed to put out numerous projects via their K&K productions banner. George even brings a high level of stunt knowledge to the picture having done work on various MCU projects like Marvel’s Doctor Strange along with Sony’s recent hit Venom: Let There Be Carnage. He also worked on the action-thriller American Assassin which also featured Adkins. The Kirby Brothers stop by The Action Fix Podcast to talk about helming the anticipated sequel as well as working with Scott Adkins, creating the insane action that fans will see when it releases this weekend and more. Get ready to know The Kirby Brothers in this exclusive interview that you will only hear here on The Action Fix Podcast!

Exclusive Interview: Assassin’s Run- A Conversation with SECTION 8 Director Christian Sesma!

Exclusive Interview: Assassin’s Run- A Conversation with SECTION 8 Director Christian Sesma!

Filmmaker Christian Sesma is definitely a talent to be known when it comes to independent action cinema. The director of such high octane flicks such as The Night Crew, Paydirt and last year’s Every Last One of Them, is a craftsman who knows how to take limited resources while on set and deliver films that genre fans want to see. His latest project, Section 8, is his most ambitious film yet as he has an elite action cast to work with in the likes of Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Dermot Mulroney and Scott Adkins. The movie is a lean and mean old school kick ass flick that takes its cues from the movies that Sesma is a fan of like Die Hard and Rambo. It’s a true throwback style flick that takes no prisoners with its relentless action sequences and no holds barred drama. On this latest episode of The Action Fix Podcast, Sesma stood by for a quick chat as we talk about the new movie, working with such a great cast and, of course, making the action. Exclusive: Authentic Warrior- A Conversation with Tino Struckman of IRON CROSS THE ROAD TO NORMANDY!

This Tuesday saw the release of the new WWII action-thriller Iron Cross: The Road to Normandy and unlike many war pictures in the past, this one is grounded in the realism and authenticity of what transpired all those years ago during one of the greatest wars ever fought. Hailing from filmmaker and actor Tino Struckman, the movie tells the story of the events leading up to D-Day and does something a little different in that it tells the story from both sides of the conflict. Struckman, who is a WWII historian brings a real sense of scale and scope to this indie picture which is bolstered by epic action set pieces as well as quieter dramatic moments. In this exclusive interview on The Action Fix Podcast, I chat with Tino about the film including the blood, sweat and tears it took making the ambitious project.
