AP04: New Players
I'm getting ready for game day.
The extended family wanted to play a roleplaying game and several of them have never played any rpg before. Here's how we introduced the hobby to our new heroes using leading questions to get everyone to understand the game and campaign's basic concepts. Plus: Thoughts on setting hooks for the heroes for a published adventure.
The D&D Starter Set, where I'm stealing the setting, and the D&D Essentials Kit, where we're using the pick up and go themed quests. They're both good introductions to Dungeons & Dragons' fifth edition.
AP03: The First Session
I'm getting ready for game day. Now that we've got our game and setting, here's how we create and prep for a quick scenario designed to answer a question: are our protagonists good guys?
D1-C3, a dice roller for Fantasy Flight Games' Genesys RPG on Discord.
MegaCity Magic, what evolved from our living document on playing a Shadowrun-inspired game in the Android setting.
AP02: Session Zero
I'm getting ready for game day.
Our group has selected a game we'd like to play. We start a conversation before the game to determine where to play in an already established setting. Plus we create our characters together and tie them into a unit of people that can trust one another (and they secretly tell me, the GM, what the players want in the game)!
Kim Stanley Robinson's New York 2140 cover, inspiration for a futuristic New York City that we didn't go with.
Dresden Files RPG, where we stole some character creation ideas.
AP01.3: Hi, Judd! a/k/a Magic and the MegaCity, the mp3 version
Getting ready for game day. In this episode, I discuss how our group chose a game system for our online game set in a magical cyberpunk future.
Daydreaming about Dragons #20, where Judd spoke about prep for game day.
MegaCity Magic, our group's house rules for adding magical fantasy elements to a cyberpunk dystopian setting.
