Laser pointer syndrome as per the AKC is a detrimental OCD type behavior that stems from compulsive chasing a reflections, lights, and shadows. The AKC reveals that the laser usage leads to this behavior due to a dog's frustration anxiety and confusion at the unattainable red dot. This draws from experience of two of my clients dogs that had the same issue. Fortunately both have recovered but the best the families can do at this point is maintain and avoid using laser pointers.
