Hi, My name is Adam Farris and I have Tourette Syndrome, But Tourette Syndrome does NOT have me.

I was diagnosed with #TouretteSyndrome at the age of 6, And I am 35 years old now. In my teenage years, my #Tourette was out of control. I had loud hooting and shouting noises.

When I asked my parents if I could go out to public places like movie theaters and restaurants, they said yes. Whenever someone asked me about the noises or made a rude comment, I would just explain to them that this is who I am and this is what I have. If they would like to go somewhere else, then they can, but I am staying here and enjoying myself.

Tourette Syndrome has affected me in many ways. One of my former doctors put me on a lot of high-dose anti-psychotic medications for a long time, which then made me like a zombie pretty much throughout the day. I was sleeping too much and was not able to concentrate because of the medications I was on.  Eventually, this made my hands shake really badly.  We switched doctors and my doctor now is really great!

I also work at a retail store here in Houston, Texas as a cashier. Sometimes you may see me struggling at work. I may ask someone to help me out with bagging or help me bag the breakable items.  Please respect my request as this can be hard for me to accomplish due to my shakiness in my hands.

Having tics is a little bit like having hiccups. Even though you might not want to hiccup, your body does it anyway. Sometimes people can stop themselves from doing a certain tic for a while, but it’s hard. Eventually, the person has to do the tic. I have Tourette Syndrome, but Tourette Syndrome does not have me. ” – Adam Farris

FYI You Are Not Alone if you are an individual with Tourette syndrome, there are support groups and other similar groups that you can join. do not feel left out, and don't allow anyone to keep you isolated. please get out into the public, and go to restaurants and if someone makes a comment or a grimace just let them know that I have Tourette's and this is what is called, and that you cannot help it.

According to the CDC, https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/tourette/facts.html

Tourette Syndrome (TS) is a condition of the nervous system. TS causes people to have “tics”.

Tics are sudden twitches, movements, or sounds that people do repeatedly. People who have tics cannot stop their body from doing these things. For example, a person might keep blinking over and over. Or, a person might make a grunting sound unwillingly.

Having tics is a little bit like having hiccups. Even though you might not want to hiccup, your body does it anyway. Sometimes people can stop themselves from doing a certain tic for a while, but it’s hard. Eventually, the person has to do the tic.

World Autism Acceptance Month Houston Texas

World Autism Acceptance Month Houston Texas

World Autism Acceptance Month will be held from April 1st to April 30th 2023. Adam  Farris, autism advocate would like to thank  Mayor Sylvester Turner, who over the years has dedicated his time and resources to speak with Adam Farris and  work with Adam on achieving common ground for all individuals with Autism

Adam is an autism advocate, he does this not only to raise awareness of autism, but to bring awareness to  others who have autism or other differing or unique abilities. If you are someone that has autism, you can go and get a job, you can go and get that degree you have been dreaming about, and do whatever you put your mind to. You just have to believe in yourself and  meet your maximum potential.

About 1 in 36 children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) according to estimates from CDC Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network

Autism Advocate Adam Farris has said, “Let us celebrate the abilities, not the disABILITIES of each individual with autism.”

There is no one way to be autistic — each individual with autism experiences it differently — but together, autistic individuals make up this world, they work and learn and can enjoy a life free of bullying and harassment.  Today, we celebrate the achievements of all individuals with autism everywhere and champion the equal rights and dignity of all those living on the autism spectrum.

Adam Farris has prestigious accolades and awards from President Barack Obama and Mayor Sylvester Turner regarding Autism Awareness month.

I was sleeping too much and was not able to concentrate because of the medications I was on.  Eventually this made my hands shake really badly.  We switched doctors and my doctor now is really great.! He helps me out with my shakiness in my arms and my head by giving me a very very small shot of Botox (yes the kind you get for wrinkles but not exactly) every three months. This has actually helped with the shakiness in my hands. I also work at a retail store here in Houston Texas as  cashier. Sometimes  you may see me struggling at work.   I may ask you to help me out with bagging or help me bag the breakable items.  Please respect my request as this can be hard for me to accomplish  due to my shakiness in my hands.

Tourette Syndrome is one type of Tic Disorder. Tics are involuntary, repetitive movements and vocalizations. They are the primary symptoms of a group of childhood-onset neurological conditions known collectively as Tic Disorders and individually as Tourette Syndrome (TS), Persistent (Chronic) Motor or Vocal Tic Disorder, and Provisional Tic Disorder.

These three Tic Disorders are named based on the types of tics present (motor, vocal/phonic, or both) and by the length of time that the tics have been present.

Younique Abilities dislikes using the word disabled or disability because  we don't  like to label people.  instead we should use the words unique or unique abilities or differing abilities. In the past we have used the words retarded or disabled, but in reality we are not disabled,  we are all just different people with a unique ability.  We would like the world  to understand that all of us are alike in different ways!!

The Importance of Customer Service By Adam Farris

Adam Farris here, please listen in to my podcast on the The Importance of Customer: which you can also find at the link below: thanks and have a nice day.

https://adamfarris.net/blog/f/the-importance-of-customer-service

Customer service is the key to owning, operating and maintaining a business . If you don't have good customer service, you won't have jobs and you won't have businesses to give you jobs. Think about it. If each employee took 15 seconds or 30 seconds to talk to a customer and say “Hi how are you today?” “How is your day going?” “I hope you having a great day” and “Enjoy the rest of your week”, To every 5 to 10 customer's think about how that would make them feel! I know it would make me feel really great, and I am the Customer a lot of times.
