Air Force One (July 25-31, 1997)

Air Force One (July 25-31, 1997)

From watching out for trees to getting off planes, we turn to the LAST EPISODE of Rewind 25-52 by talking about the action/adventure film “Air Force One”. Joey Rogate (from our “The Relic” episode, Best Picture Cast, & Worst Picture Cast) joins me to break down all the angles of this film: the wonderful lead performances, the amazing supporting cast, the pitfalls of the script, and the TERRIBLE VFX. In addition, the two assemble Harrison Ford’s Mt. Rushmore, a very famous wedding, and summer shenanigans.

It was a pleasure to bring this podcast to you all for 30 weeks!!! The feed will stay open for 25 years and beyond…

George of the Jungle (July 18-24, 1997)

George of the Jungle (July 18-24, 1997)

From visitors from another dimension to talking gorillas, we pivot HARD to a family-friendly comedy starring an icon of the 90s (Brendan Fraser) – “George of the Jungle”. This week I have two guests: Melissa (my wife & co-host of “Below Freezing”) and my sister, Chelsea Clifton (whose last name I get WRONG in the episode) to talk about our early encounters with this movie and what stood out this time: elephant piss, the wrong bridge in San Francisco, and the ageless Leslie Mann. Also, we get into a debate about Brendan Fraser’s Mt. Rushmore, the boyband craze, and Melissa consistently missing the bus. Gone Fishin’ (May 30-June 5, 1997)

From a movie with painful deaths to just a painful movie to watch, we begrudgingly make our way to one of the worst comedies (is it a comedy if you don’t laugh?) ever made: the Joe Pesci/Danny Glover two-hander “Gone Fishin’”. Beer connoisseur and little brother Nolan Partridge hops into the car and joins me on this road trip film: was there anything funny in this movie, an early credit for the reviver of Star Wars, and incompetent boat operators. Also, another Spice Girls sighting, Dennis Franz’s ass, and the N64 was build to last!!!

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (May 23-29, 1997)

From the architectural jungle of New York to the vegetative jungle of Isla Sorna, we take a long boat ride into our first sequel covered in 1997: the Steven Spielberg helmed “The Lost World: Jurassic Park”. Film enthusiast, actor, and host of YouTube show “The Sunday Matinee” Ben Stahl rejoins me from our 1001 by 1 episode on “Jurassic Park” to try and make sense of this film: Jeff Goldblum as the lead of this film, all the mistakes made in this film, and where this ranks in Spielberg’s filmography. Also, Tim Allen’s DUI, a new song atop the Billboard Hot 100 (a very catchy tune, indeed), and does anyone remember Dr. Quinn?

Night Falls on Manhattan (May 16-22, 1997)

From the grandiose of space to the confinement of a courtroom, we seriously shift over to a quietly forgotten Sidney Lumet film – “Night Falls on Manhattan”. I am joined by me, myself, and I for this and I see if I can talk about a movie by myself for 45 minutes. During the experiment, I talk about Lumet’s Mt. Rushmore, the different halves of the movie (and which one is better than the other), and I somehow use the word “flaccid”. Also, some good & bad baseball moments, a big career move for me, and we ask the question: “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?”

Volcano (April 25-May 1, 1997)

From East coast politics to West coast fault lines, we slowly ooze (like…lava?) over to our next film of discussion: the OTHER volcanic disaster flick of ’97 – aptly named “Volcano”. My lovely wife (and co-host of “Below Freezing”) Melissa St. John returns to avenge her dignity (we talk about “Dante’s Peak”…it’s a thing) by diving right into the tar pits of this movie: the old-man strength of TLJ, the not-so-good special effects, and the stacked ensemble (which the movie didn’t deserve). Also, Flipper dies, Ellen comes out, Sheryl Crow takes us down a winding road, and some hometown love to Ken Griffey, Jr.

Donnie Brasco (February 28-March 6, 1997)

We go from one “based on a true story” feature film to another this week as Myke from “CineMusts” joins me to discuss the Johnny Depp & Al Pacino led gangster film “Donnie Brasco”. Adam and Myke break down the pros of the true to life aspects of the story and the cons of how that limits the stakes of the film. Later in the episode, Myke is treated to some new categories at the end of the film and gets us wondering what (if anything) will get Gene Hackman out of retirement. Plus: we celebrate (or do we?) the birth of Camilla Cabello, Myke is all about cloning, and Adam wishes some ill thoughts towards none other than Andrew Lloyd Webber. Dante’s Peak (February 7-13, 1997)

From comedians getting no respect to mother nature getting no respect, we go from the small screen to the great outdoors in the Pierce Brosnan led “Dante’s Peak”. I’m joined this week by Brittany Reinholz-Hobson (“Audition” & “Blade Runner” 1001 by 1 episodes, “Event Horizon” on Below Freezing) to discuss this disaster film and all of it’s peaks and valleys: the wonderful graphics and practical effects, the TERRIBLE screenplay, and the indestructible vehicles that just happen to be available at all times. Also, Jewel & her “Foolish Games”, Adam rants about wine & bees, and the glory of the Wilhelm scream – all of this and more! Beverly Hills Ninja (January 17-23, 1997)

From mythical beasts to ancient prophecies, this week we dive into the Chris Farley helmed “Beverly Hills Ninja”. This week I’m joined by Grant Zepernick (from Best Picture Cast and Worst Picture Cast) to try and make sense of this nonsensical film: is this the worst ninja clan ever, what actually happened to Nicolette Sheridan’s sister, and why is Chris Rock in this movie? Comedies don’t age well and this one is no different (despite the fact that it did make us chuckle from time to time). Also, we ruminate on En Vogue, the “Discovery Zone” playgrounds, and Chris Farley’s legacy.
