Pub Talk - Episode Seven
Pub Talk- the show where four mates talk Europe’s big leagues over a continental pint or four.   The football this week: Gabriel Radus, Archie Hodgson and Matthieu Rident, calling in from St. Petersburg, Russia, review crazy scenes in Bayern vs Hoffenheim, coronavirus culling games in Serie A, and the collapse of St. Etienne in Ligue 1.  The team also take a look at Scottish football without letting Archie run into expletives when discussing Hearts handing one to Hibs on Tuesday night, and the 25th anniversary of the MLS and whether it's been as successful as the USSF would have hoped. That and much more in the pod.   The pints this week: A dodgy Monoprix blond called 'Blanc Bec' satisfies Archie but not Gabriel, whilst Matthieu lays off the pints this week to help in his pursuit of a fledgling career in pro Russian basketball.  Dunny, although not able to contribute this week, was almost certainly on the booze somewhere.  Any questions and comments for the panel email in at pubtalkfootball@yahoo.com.

And Cristiano Ronaldo did what to his teacher!?  All this and more in the fourth episode of Gone Too VAR.

Farrell Fashion, Gengey Passion, Are France Here to Stay?
After a barren week the rugby's back and with it the relentless content and charisma of the Breakdown. The Welshies lick their wounds as a contented Irishman swathes into the lineup, joined by a former second-row pacifist (?) whose Cal Soc loyalties are the closest thing to Scottish sympathy we can muster.  Does Eddie know what he's talking about? Does George North have a future? Is Ntamack the real deal? As the tests get tougher, the stakes rise higher, and the hands get ever clammier, there's only one place to get stuck in but remember your discipline at The Breakdown.

Pub Talk - Episode Five
Pub Talk- the show where four mates talk Europe’s big leagues over a continental pint or four.   The football this week: Archie’s bold moves in a Parisian Scottish pub on Sunday night make the headlines. In other news, German football’s top five all win, PSG play out an entertaining draw against relegation fodder Amiens, and Lazio beat Inter to further their title credentials.  Barca suffer two off-the-field setbacks in one week, and Celtic win to all but seal a ninth championship in a row. That, plus the Champions League preview.    The pints this week: Archie finally remembers to bring his beloved Brewdog IPA. It’s fine. Just fine.  Any questions and comments for the panel email in at pubtalkfootball@yahoo.com

Pub Talk - Episode Four
Pub Talk- the show where four mates talk Europe’s big leagues over a continental pint or four.   The football this week: A whopper of an episode, where Archie Hodgson and Gabriel Radus, alongside insights from Matthieu Rident and Charlie Dunn take an in-depth look at the continent's major leagues outside of the Premier League.  Dimi Payet dragging an otherwise dire Marseille side to victory over basement boys Toulouse, Basque sides shocking La Liga heavyweights Real and Barca in the Copa del Rey quarters, and the shock announcement that Jurgen Klinsmann has resigned effective immediate from his post as manager of Hertha Berlin after only two and a half months are among the many topics covered this week.  Archie and Gabe also take a look at the cracking Derby di Milano, the shocking news on Monday that Alfredo Morelos was racially abused by a 12 year old boy in January's Old Firm, and the prospect of the Belgium Jupiler Pro League and the Dutch Eredivisie merging.   The pints this week: It's back to Gabriel's flat in Northern Paris; and with Archie charged to get the beers again, it's not surprise he forgot once again. To be fair to the resident Scot, he battled illness to make the pod, so we'll let him off. A diet coke and a water for the live panel- we are sure that Matthieu was sipping on a Russian vodka when recording though, and Archie is 99.9% certain that Charlie might have been a few pints down on the snowy peaks of the Alps when he sent us in his thoughts. So at least 50% of the crew were drinking.   Any questions and comments for the panel email in at pubtalkfootball@yahoo.com

The DS ‘T’ is an official collaboration between Purple Radio and Durham Student Theatre. Hosts Matthew Redmond and Issy Flower, who have both been involved in over 15 shows at Durham, take the time to bring the latest news, opinions and jokes from the stage to the web. In this week’s episode, Issy and Matt discuss the Hamilton Film Adaptation, Woman in Theatre and interview 2 directors for upcoming shows; Dorottya Farkas for Lost Connections and Helena Baker for Measure for Measure. A fusion of several physical performance arts, Lost Connections aims to portray universal human strategies for the pursuit of pleasure, desires, and connections. It is character-driven play that follows the lives of a travelling circus troupe and is a visually striking show in which stories unfold through the language of the body, through dance, acrobatics, and pantomime. Wrong Tree presents 'Lost Connections' 14th-16th February, 7.30pm Mark Hillary Arts Centre, Collingwood College The delicate balance of power is toppled when the Duke Vincentio bestows absolute power upon his deputy, Angelo, in his stead. When the new and all-powerful Official offers to save the life of Isabella’s brother in return for her virginity, the young postulant nun is left astounded by the state of justice. William Shakespeare’s timeless problem play ‘Measure for Measure’ explores themes of hypocrisy, faith, blackmail and love as we see what happens when the ones in charge don’t abide by their own rules. Performances are 13th-15th February in the Assembly Rooms!

Pub Talk - Episode 3
Pub Talk- the show where four mates talk Europe’s big leagues over a continental pint or four.   The football this week: A transfer podcast special looking at the big signing across the continent and the ramifications some bargains or blowouts will have on the very title races and fights for survival. We take a look at the extraordinary idiocy of Ranger's new signing Kamberi, Villareal's shrewd capture of proven goalscorer Paco Alcacer and whether he will be the deciding factor in the Yellow Submarine's push for a Champions League spot;  did Dortmund have the best window of any European club and did league rivals Hertha Berlin have the worst and much more.  Plus, the panel comprising of Gabriel Radus, Charlie “Dunny” Dunn, Archie Hodgson and Matthieu Rident try to work out whether Nice's new right-back is the prime cut that will get the Riviera club fans' tails wagging, whilst also surmising Antonio Conte's first mid-season transfer window as Inter Milan boss and whether they've done enough in the market to push Juve all the way for the Scudetto.   The pints this week: We head back to Dunny's Parisian apartment, with housemate Issy Rush and her sizzling stir fry in the background making a guest appearance. The team are rather chuffed that they've managed to secure a live audience show so early on in their podcasting careers. Archie was due to bring the beers, but, true to form, ran out of time to pick some up (which incidentally a very hungover Charlie and Matthieu were quite pleased about).  Water for the team this time round; what we lack in alcoholic beverage this week the team make up for in the odd story and a bit of witty banter. Archie has promised whisky next week.  Any questions and comments for the panel email in at pubtalkfootball@yahoo.com

If you are interested in seeing any of the plays talked about in this week’s episode, please check out the DDF facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/DurhamDramaFestival/ We unfortunately were not able to interview 3 of the writers for the DDF General Programme. Therefore, we’ve decided to link their director’s notes which have been published on the DST Website: He Never Married by Kane Taylor The death of a mysterious relative causes Sam to consider their own place in the world, finding their lives to be more alike than they’d ever imagined. Through the letters sequestered amongst their late uncle’s possessions, the tapestry of a difficult but well-lived life slowly unravels — and the fragility of all that’s been achieved becomes increasingly clear. https://www.durhamstudenttheatre.org/news/ddf-writers-note-he-never-married/ Lungbarrow's Insomnia by Aidas Zvirblis Carrie Clyde cannot fall asleep. As the world outside slumbers, Carrie’s technicolour thoughts invade her room, filling the night with her fantasies and dreams, with the figments of those she loves and hates, as she spirals further into the depths of truths she’d rather keep hidden. And through it all, the power of a memory and a single word: Lungbarrow. https://www.durhamstudenttheatre.org/news/ddf-writers-note-lungbarrows-insomnia/ Laika by Aliya Gilmore “There are no wolves in space, only men” Based on the true story of Sputnik, LAIKA follows the story of a dog in a spaceship sent to orbit the earth, and the people that put her there. https://www.durhamstudenttheatre.org/news/ddf-writers-note-laika/

Pub Talk - Episode 2
Pub Talk - the show where four mates talk Europe’s big leagues over a continental pint or four.    The football this week: How damaging is Atletico Madrid’s loss to cup minnows for the success of their season, are Toulouse the worst team in Europe’s major leagues, how Gian Piero Gasperini has created the foundations for Atalanta to be a European powerhouse and much more.  Gabriel Radus, Charlie “Dunny” Dunn, Archie Hodgson and Matthieu Rident also take a look at the title race in Glasgow taking yet another twist with Rangers losing to bottom club Hearts, and Erling Braut Håland and his already record-breaking debut season in the Bundesliga.    The pints this week: As the team lug the recording equipment to Dunny’s Parisian apartment, it’s his turn to provide and he delivers with a nod to his once-burgeoning acting career with the aromatically spiced alpine Edelweiss beer. The group took more of a liking to the mountain range on the side of the glass, which says a lot. Matthieu treats himself to a lukewarm can of Estrella, which even he admits is pretty vile.    Any questions and comments for the panel email in at pubtalkfootball@yahoo.com

The 'Dharmasena', a backpack and Christmas plans
Chambers, Hobbs and Waddelove leave you with a Christmas present. One more episode of Three Reds Kumar to wrap up 2019. And what a show it was. In homage to ICC umpire Kumar Dharmasena, the inspiration for the name of our podcast, Chambers talks us through a dance-move that he and his house have come up with - the 'Dharmasena' - coming to a Durham nightclub in 2020. Hobbs gives us in-depth analysis from Durham University Inter-Collegiate Christian Union Carol Service (yes we agree, they need to work on the name), as well as defending his decision to walk around with Durham University Rugby Club branded backpack (oh dear). And we always thought Waddelove was old-fashioned, confirmed by his #1 most listened to song on Spotify for 2019 being released in 2014... he also tries (and fails) to find evidence that our '2019 Wrapped' says a lot about us, our relationships and changes in our music tastes through the year.  In other news, Chambers digs himself into a hole and then an even bigger hole when quizzed why he hasn't bought his train tickets home for Christmas and Waddelove talks about how many calories he will consume on Christmas Day (do we care?). Oh and a what a year it has been for cricket. But amongst the chaos, Hobbs does himself proud in the dying seconds: '2019 - thank you to Bob Willis' We echo those words to an England cricketing legend. Rest In Peace: Bob Willis (1940-2019)

On The Far Side Of The World: New Zealand dish out revenge on sloppy England
With the evenings getting shorter and darker, Three Reds Kumar makes its long awaited return to our airwaves with discussion of England, New Zealand, Australia and India. England may have appointed a new head coach but Purple Radio aren't afraid to make big decisions too.  We may miss Parry's granny references but did he really make enough of a contribution? Our listeners think not.  He is replaced by Will Hobbs, who it turns out is Three Reds' biggest fan. Already we feel the podcast is more focused on cricket, although perhaps a little less  philosophy next time, please. The evergreen (or ginger/blonde) partnership of Chambers and Waddelove return with some startling revelations. Chambers only started watching cricket when his Sky package arrived (circa 2009), so an expert he is most certainly not. And Waddelove was apparently born playing cricket, for those of you who have had the misfortune to watch him, then you will know he hasn't improved in the 20 years since.  Oh and as ever, if you want to listen to Hobbs and Chambers butcher a quiz or indulge in listening to criticism of England than this is the place for you.

To Infinity and Beyond?
In the wake of a set of two compelling semi-finals, The Breakdown brings you a preview of the biggest game in world rugby. As the eyes of all sports fans turn to Yokohama, Ed, Will and Hugo unpack the impending drama.  With the pre-match tensions rising acutely, we ask how the game will be played, who will be the key figures and ultimately which side will prevail.   Indeed, with England as favourites and Ian Robertson’s famous Jonny Wilkinson commentary part of our current titles, will there be a new symphonic soundtrack of England World Cup ecstasy by Saturday lunchtime? Or propelled by the legacy of 1995, will Siya Kolisi lead South Africa to their third Webb Ellis Cup?  The Breakdown is the perfect place to contemplate all the important questions before the answers arrive in eighty minutes of pure sporting theatre.

Rugby World Cup Semi-Finals, Downton Abbey and Ben Stokes
In Purple Radio Sport’s first content of the year, we look forward to a set of critical semi-finals and yet another epic England-New Zealand World Cup encounter in 2019 in the making.  The level of insightful content is boosted by the introduction of new signing Will, yet infringements are always possible under pressure at the Breakdown. Indeed, as always, Adrian gives his opinion on the Welsh, new signing Will laments his benching on a trip to the Gateway to the Highlands, whilst Ed confuses a Downton Abbey star for an England International Prop forward.   The perfect companion to get you in the mood for a weekend of engrossing, early-morning rugby. And if it all fails… just bring Ben Stokes on at half-time?
