On Friday, June 9, 2023, Nigeria’s President signed into law, the Electricity Act 2023 (the “EA” or “the Act”) which replaced the erstwhileElectric Power Sector Reform Act of 2005 (the “EPSRA”).

The EA 2023 no doubt marks a significant turning point in Nigeria's quest for a reliable power supply system and sustainable energy practices. This comprehensive piece of legislation aims at revitalizing Nigeria’s electricity sector by encouraging private sector participation in the power sector at both foreign and local frontiers by introducing some key innovations. In a bid for transformative energy revolution, the EA consolidates all laws relating to electricity in Nigeria across the entire value chain, including the integration of renewable energy to Nigeria’s energy mix. This podcast seeks to encourage investment and to enlighten the prospective investor on the wide array of investment opportunities under the New Act and how to navigate the path to investment.
