AFRICA-KILIMO is the FIRST and ONLY podcast on AFRICAN AGRICULTURE

This episode of AFRICA Kilimo features an interview with Mr. Sanjeev Anand, Group Managing Director for Retail and Commercial Banking at Atlas Mara Ltd.  Prior to this assignment, Mr. Anand was the MD of Banque Populaire du Rwanda Ltd (BPR), part of Atlas Mara. Before he joined BPR,  he was Managing Director of I&M Bank Rwanda Limited (previously Banque Commerciale du Rwanda-BCR). During this period, he managed the transition of ownership of the bank from Actis to the I&M consortium, comprising I&M Bank, DEG and PROPARCO. Mr. Anand had a long career of 25 years with Citibank, where he held a number of senior assignments across Asia, Europe, America and Africa. Some of the key positions he held during this period were as CEO of Citibank in Zambia and Uganda and Executive Director of Citibank Nigeria.  He was a member of the BASEL task force in Poland. Mr. Anand has worked along with governments, private and public sector, DFI’s and multilateral agencies on handling sovereign debt issues, infrastructure financing and many development initiatives in Africa. He is passionate about Agriculture and its potential for Africa.

With Mr. Anand, we explore the status of financing for agriculture, agri-finance and bank credit for the sector.  We discuss the challenges and possible solutions to overcome the roadblocks to effective and efficient agriculture financing in Africa, Setting up of multi-country linkages, institutions, and government policies.
