Organisational Data: How can it be used forensically for better M&A results?

Organisational Data: How can it be used forensically for better M&A results?

We know that data is the most important resource in an organisation after its people. So what can it tell us about an organisation when it comes to buying and selling? Is data truly the DNA of an organisation’s operations so can be used for both financial and non-financial due diligence and tell the buyers the good, bad and the ugly? And can data be used by sellers to promote their organisation positively as a profitable and low risk enterprise, beyond the financial accounts? This podcast puts these questions to three M&A world experts and one of Aim’s data scientists, to share their opinions on how forensic data analysis before, during and after can make for successful ‘win-win’ M&A deals.

Solving Data Challenges in Logistics - Part 1

Solving Data Challenges in Logistics - Part 1

This is a re-enactment of a real conversion held between an Aim data solution team and the CEO of a major shipping and logistics company.  The name of the CEO has been changed for confidential reasons, but the challenges his company faces are real and immediate.

The back story is as follows. The CEO Rob is struggling as the logistics industry is highly competitive and he faces increased regulations, rising costs and labour challenges but equally has to deliver high levels of delivery performance and customer service.

If he manages every facet of his business well, he can deliver a meagre 7% return to shareholders, but last year’s performance saw that drop to 4.5%.

He’s got multiple stakeholders feeding information to his business, from shipping agents, rail freight, 3rd party sub-contractors, and vehicle operating data downloaded by his workshops, but he’s struggling to get a clear picture of where he is doing well and which parts of his operation could improve. And to make matters worse, he thinks there’s possible fraud taking place between some of his drivers and the shipping company but he has nothing to back up his concerns.

He's invited data management experts Aim to meet with him and see if they can help.
