On episode 66 on the Akeshi Akinseye Podcast, Akeshi chats with luxury fashion designer, Esé Azénabor. We talk about her journey as a fashion designer and taking the bridal industry by storm. We talk about: How she got started in the fashion industry How she got started in the bridal industry Some of he challenges she has faced as a designer How she pivoted during the covid-19 pandemic Her new couture collection - The Dream Collection Ese shares dress shopping tips for brides  and more. About Esé Azénabor: Esé Azénabor-Grembowski is the Owner and Creative Director/Head Designer for her name sake brand Esé Azénabor. Her Inspiration comes from the world's arts, cultures and most importantly, God. She designs for clients that love art and understand the craftsmanship that goes into each haute couture and bespoke garment. Esé Azénabor is known for her hand beading with fine crystals, stones and pearls, hand embroidery on fine French lace and tulle, her structuring with hymo, hard tulle, boning and attention to detail. This Nigeria born Canadian transplant got to Texas as fast as she could. Hailing from a family who considered fashion design more of a hobby than a career, Esé started designing at the early age of 8 Years old. She had to sweep her creative urges under the rug because her maiden name "Azénabor" was grounded in the fields of medicine, law, and engineering, and she, in turn, attended the University of Windsor in Windsor Ontario, Canada majoring in Accounting. A move to Dallas, TX followed, to pursue a Master’s Degree at Southern Methodist University, detoured to following her dreams and started designing handmade dresses for herself, friends and family. In 2012, without any financial assistance, this self-taught designer traded predictable college life for the wild world of fashion with the launch of her self-titled line. At her sewing machine, she conceptualized her fascination for heavy hand beading, crocheted lace, exquisite fabrics and embroidery. Inspired by a combination of vintage, African, and contemporary European influences, she merged cultures to create her Haute Couture Bridal and evening wear collections The Esé Azénabor brand has produced a total of 21 different collections. She is now one of the world’s sought-after designers. Her brides fly in from all over the World to get their Esé Azénabor Couture piece. They are a diverse collection of creatives that include women, minorities, and LGBT business owners, dedicated to providing services to our fellow citizens. The special events industry responsible for producing the City's weddings, galas and corporate events is, at its core, a constellation of small businesses. Get to know our guests: Ali Phillips is the Chief Wedding Orchestrator of Engaging Events by Ali, Inc and is truly a leader in the wedding industry. She has been named one of the Top Chicago Wedding Planners in the Chicago Magazine and was selected by the Editor of Brides Magazine as one of Chicago’s favorite wedding planners. 15. Keys To Longevity and Rejuvenation In Business with Yemi Kosibah
15. Keys To Longevity and Rejuvenation In Business with Yemi Kosibah
About Episode 15: Our Guest, Yemi Osunkoya Kosibah is an award winning designer behind the Kosibah label. He launched his label Kosibah in September 1991 in London, UK.. Even as a small child Yemi Osunkoya had an exceptional eye for detail. Mere minutes after attending weddings with his parents in his homeland of Nigeria, he would start sketching the elaborate designs he had seen adorning the bridal party, recreating everything from the bridesmaids’ parasols to the flower girls’ hemlines with the help of only pen and paper. Years later he turned that talent into a flourishing career in couture. Even before he launched his line in 1991 he knew it would be named Kosibah, a name given to a baby girl born on a Sunday in the Republic of Benin, after his mother to honor the nourishment and encouragement his parents gave his artistic pursuits. Osunkoya draws inspirations from his international travels as well as many other art forms including the ballet, and contemporary painting. Spending countless hours studying the work of legends like Dior, Balenciaga, and Givenchy, who felt the foundation of the garment was as important as its exterior, inspired him to study the time-honored art of couture at the Paris Academy of Fashion where he achieved top-tier grades in both men’s and women’s wear. Actresses, dignitaries, and even royalty have turned to Osunkoya to make the most memorable days of their lives even more magnificent including Lady Janet Boateng, Dianne Abbott MP, Alesha Dixon, Sheila Ferguson, Hollywood actresses Louise Rose and Indra Ové, Miss World Agbani Darego, and singers Stephanie Benson and Kelly Rowland. His gowns have been worn to royal balls, state dinners, and other courtly occasions. But despite his illustrious clientele he prides himself on offering superior service to each and every one of his clients. He ensures that they feel involved in the process of creating their couture gown welcoming their input and happily honoring any religious or cultural traditions with respect and consideration. His celebrated bridal work has received Diamond Recognition from National Weddings. He has also been named International Designer of the Year by City People magazine, and received the Honorary Award for Contributions to Fashion from Fashion Diversity. He has been featured in a variety of publications including World Bride Magazine, BHF magazine, TW magazine, Lady Brille Magazine, Noir Bride, African Luxury and The Undefeated. Still his greatest accolades come from his clients who continue to send heartfelt thanks sometimes even years after they’ve worked together to make their dreams come true.
