Why Believe? - Why believe in Jesus's humanity? (04-14-2024)
The great philosopher Scott Calvin once said, “Believing is Seeing, and Seeing is Believing.” In some way, our belief is tied to our ability to see. Maybe that’s to see the truth, or to see ahead, or to see above the waters. In any case, our eyes are greatly benefitted from believing. Which is why we’re asking a new question for April. Why Believe? Join us as we learn more about the foundations of our faith so that together we can see more of God’s work in the world!

An Unlikely Advent: Hope (week 1) 12-6-2023
There are so many ways to view the Christmas story. We can look through the perspective of Mary and Joseph, or even from the animals around the manger. Each year we come to this story there is something new that God is teaching us. As Sunday School Classes and individuals read through the book “An Unlikely Advent,” by Rachel Billups, join us for worship as we explore more of the ways this story was unlikely then and is still unlikely today.
Gratitude: Grate-full or empty (week 3) 11-26-23
For the rest of November we’re focusing on our gratitudes! Or thankful attitudes. Have you ever been told to “just be grateful for what you have?” Maybe you’ve said that to someone else. But how can we have a good gratitude (thankful attitude) if, in fact, we lack things to be grateful for? Maybe with our health or time or finances we don’t feel grate-full, but rather grate-empty. Join us in this series as we look to scripture to teach us how to change our gratitudes!

Content Content (week 3) 9-17-23
"You are enough."- God. That is a message I think all of us are waiting and hoping to hear. And there is confidence in the truth that God is constantly trying to help you understand that. Through there is much in this world trying to tell you not to be content with the content of your life, we in the church need to take time to speak truth. There's always something to work on, but none of it takes away from the value that you have as a child of God. PERIOD!
Dr. Matthew Sleeth
This past Sunday we welcomed Dr. Matthew Sleeth to FSUMC to speak about the subject of suicide in the world today.

As we draw closer to the holiday of the 4th of July, we are asking the question, "What is Freedom?"
Acts Of Freedom (week 5) 6-25-23
As we closed the series Echoes from the Tomb the call (or rather the need) was to go out and act on the beliefs Jesus held. That’s still true, but we know there are obstacles in the way for us to experience the true freedom to act on those calls/needs. From Pentecost through June we will wade into the waters of some of those obstacles and work towards lifting them out of our way. We will aim to experience Acts of Freedom!

Echoes From the Tomb (week 6) 5-21-23
Did you understand the Bible the first time you read it? The disciples didn’t. Of the many reasons why Jesus defeated death and came back to life, one of them seemed to be re-teaching those men and women the purpose Jesus came with and the purpose they were now tasked with. You should know by now that if Jesus is teaching the disciples, he’s teaching us too. Welcome to Discipleship 102.

My Christianity (week 4) 3-26-23
During Sunday School we will hear from Rev. Dr. Jim Pace on Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis, an exposition of what Lewis thinks of the core of Christianity. Here’s a hard truth: we’re not all C.S. Lewis. And while we may not have a book written about our Christian values, we might hold our personal conviction as if they are written in stone. During Lent we are called to clean house; to rid our lives of the things that get in the way of a good and right relationship with God. Maybe it’s time we got rid of MY christianity.
