66. Why Taking a Break from Consumption is Important for Sensitive Souls
66. Why Taking a Break from Consumption is Important for Sensitive Souls
I've had enough of over consumption - whether it's social media, the news, podcasts, or just other people. We all have our own thoughts and opinions but when we only consume and never create, we tend to tone down our own messages to fit the collective.  So, no more agreeing with everyone for the sake of agreeing with everyone. It's time to take back our power and understand how important it is to be still, quiet, and listening to our own voices. In this episode, you'll learn: About how your message gets watered down Why taking a social media and podcast break is important How to get in touch with your own beliefs and what's true for you 🌸 🌸 🌸 Enroll now in The Sensitive & Soulful Self-Worth Course Follow along on Instagram: @lifebyalissa Learn more: sensitiveandsoulful.com Join the waitlist for The Highly Sensitive and Soulful Membership The Sensitive & Soulful Show is managed by Happy Pod Productions

64. Experiencing Loneliness as an HSP [Sensitive & Empowered Series with Matt Landsiedel]
Join Matt and I on this episode of the Sensitive & Empowered Series (a monthly Instagram chat)! This month we talked about loneliness. We've both been experiencing bouts of loneliness in our lives right now and we wanted to share openly and vulnerably about the cause and how we're dealing with it. Being an HSP can be such a gift but it can also be challenging to navigate as well. Social isolation and hyper-independence are two common defense mechanisms many of us tend to use to cope with loneliness. In the episode we both unpack some of the day-to-day psychology involved and how it shows up in our lives personally. In this episode, you'll learn: How we've been experiencing loneliness in our lives What we're doing to move through it and support ourselves That loneliness is not something to feel guilty about it 🌸 🌸 🌸 Follow Matt Landsiedel on Instagram: @inspiredtobeauthentic Check out the Inspired to Be Authentic Podcast Enroll now in The Sensitive & Soulful Self-Worth Course Follow along on Instagram: @lifebyalissa Learn more: sensitiveandsoulful.com Join the waitlist for The Highly Sensitive and Soulful Membership The Sensitive & Soulful Show is managed by Happy Pod Productions

61. How to Tap into Your Intuition as an HSP
We've all gotten little hits of inspiration at random times or in random places. Most people tend to ignore those hits. But as HSPs we can only ignore it for so long before our hearts start to yell at us. Our intuition is naturally strong but if we've been ignoring it for too long or listening to other peoples' opinions over our own, it's probably gotten lost somewhere deep inside of us.  This episode comes to you straight from my Sensitive & Soulful Membership vault! During the time of recording, my word for the year was Trust. Learning to trust myself and my intuition was one of the best things I could have done for myself. 54. How to Stop Letting Other People's Opinions Get in Your Way
54. How to Stop Letting Other People's Opinions Get in Your Way
As HSPs and empaths, we tend to rely heavily on our feelings and gut reactions – and we should! We should always trust our intuition. But what if that feeling is a feeling of discomfort? Do we take it as a sign to stop what we’re doing and turn back? I know the discomfort of other people’s judgements and opinions and I know it’s not a good feeling. It can often times feel like a sign that we should stop doing something, especially if that opinion comes from a friend or loved one. Maybe the judgement is so strong that all you want to do is crawl into your bed and never do anything again… Please don’t.  Please continue to make beautiful art, talk to new people, try new things, and share your light and gifts despite what others say or how they react. Join me in this episode to learn how to fight through the discomfort and learn how to navigate it in a healthy way. 52. Why it's Important to Get Out of Your Comfort Zone
When you have every excuse in the world to not go and do something that's when you know you should do it! As HSPs we tend to stay in places we know and feel comfortable in. Why wouldn't we? But some of our greatest opportunities and experiences come from places of discomfort, and pushing ourselves to do something challenging. Think about the last time you were scared to do something new but it ended up being one of the best experiences or you ended up meeting some amazing people. That's exactly what happened to me recently which I share all about in this episode!   In this episode, you'll learn: Why we tend to stay in and say no to unknown events About healthy stress and destress tolerance About my recent experience with getting out of my comfort zone Check out my article on the Highly Sensitive Refuge - What is Distress Tolerance and Why Does it Help HSPs  Enroll now in The Sensitive & Soulful Self-Worth Course Follow along on Instagram: @lifebyalissa Learn more: sensitiveandsoulful.com Join the waitlist for The Highly Sensitive and Soulful Membership

44. Stop Looking to Others for Your Answers
We live in an age where self-help books, online gurus, and endless podcasts are the norm. We also grew up with people basically telling us that we were too much and that we needed to stop being so dramatic. Combine those two things and you get an HSP who is always looking to others for the answers.  But its okay! Because I used to be there myself. With a little self-work, reflection, and integration, we can start to trust ourselves more and look within for the answers. You feel bad and wonder if you were too harsh or too selfish for setting this boundary.  At this point, we have two options...either go back on our word and let others step all over our boundaries OR we remind ourselves why we set this boundary and we stay strong.  In this episode, you'll learn: Why feelings of guilt tend to pop up. 32. Validating Your Emotions When Other People Don't "Get It"
Let's be real. HSPs have some BIG emotions. We learned early on in our lives that our emotions made others uncomfortable and caused rifts or issues in relationships...so we started hiding them. We even started repeating what others so often told to us: "It's not a big deal. Don't freak out. Just get over it." I'm here to tell you that you and your experiences are valid. Period. That's it.  In this episode, you'll learn: Why we tend to hide and ignore our emotions. How to validate your feelings and advocate for yourself. How to support yourself and create self-trust. Our heart starts racing, our stomach drops to the floor, and we feel under attack. In a world where there is a rigid set of rules to life, I dare you to ignore it all and listen to yourself.  Tap into your intuition and do things your way. 20. It's Time to Stop Second-Guessing Yourself!
I used to second-guess myself all the time. I struggled to make my own decisions and always looked to others for guidance. I just didn’t trust myself to have the answers. And it’s no wonder - because most HSPs are told their whole lives (either verbally or vibrationally) that they are different and weird and….wrong. It took me a long time to finally start trusting myself and not look to others for answers. It starts small but once you get the ball rolling, life will open up to you when you stop second-guessing everything. 19. My Best Tips for Quieting Your Inner Critic
19. My Best Tips for Quieting Your Inner Critic
What happens when we let our inner critic speak too much, too often, and for too long? We start doubting ourselves, we take less risks, and we believe every bad thing that little voice says. Here’s the thing though, you are not your inner critic. You are so much more and so much better than that voice gives you credit for. I’ve noticed that around this time of year, my inner critic comes out especially hard. We fail on our new goals before we even start because we let that voice run the show. The inner critic comes out when you start hearing things like: “You should've worked out harder,” “I can’t believe you ate another cookie,” “You really messed up this time! No one will forgive you.” If you’re fed up with that voice being so loud, this episode is for you! You’ll learn: • How to recognize your inner critic’s voice and give it a name. • How to separate yourself from your inner critic. • Some useful tools when that little voice gets a little too loud. 10. You Can't Please Everyone and That's Okay!
If you're anything like me, you grew up feeling like you were too much, too emotional, too sensitive - so you learned to counterbalance that with... *que Spongebob putting a rainbow over his head* people pleasing. It's not uncommon as an HSP and empath to simply go with the flow; don't make waves, don't make suggestions in case someone hates it, don't state an opposing opinion because you may make enemies, etc. etc. etc.  But at the core of people pleasing is really just us trying to control other people's perceptions of us. AKA: trying to control others. It's a harsh reality but one we must learn.  Don't get me wrong, people pleasing comes from a very good place in our hearts but it might be time to reevaluate this habit of ours.  In this episode, you'll learn: Why HSPs tend to be people pleasers How people pleasing is actually a selfish thing Why good intentions are better than always making everyone else happy Want to dive deeper on this topic? 8. How to Cope with HSP Overstimulation
8. How to Cope with HSP Overstimulation
As HSPs, we tend to get more overwhelmed and overstimulated more easily than our non-HSP friends, family members, and coworkers. This can be a challenge for us because we never to feel that our HSP traits are a bad thing. We don't want to be viewed as weak because we "can't keep up" or "get frazzled easily." Things that seem to be labeled as bad in our society.  The truth is, our nervous systems are just designed differently. Sometimes we aren't even aware of how much information we are taking in and how deeply we're processing it. Any normal day for an HSP could lead to overstimulation and that is nothing to be ashamed of. We are high precision instruments that need extra love, care, and attention. You wouldn't make fun of a Formula 1 race-car for being high maintenance so why do we feel like it's a bad thing when humans are high maintenance? In this episode, you'll learn: The signs to look out for before or during overstimulation. Things that can be overstimulating and how to handle them. What to do when you're overstimulated. 7. Everything You Need to Know About Relationships as an HSP
7. Everything You Need to Know About Relationships as an HSP
HSPs make up only about 15-20% of the population which means most people you meet and have relationships with are not HSPs. This is why it's so important to learn about your trait and understand the HSP characteristics fully in order to communicate them to your partner. Our partners can't read our minds, we must be willing to have those conversations with them. In most cases, the people we have strong relationships with will be open (and eager) to learn more about you and what makes you, YOU! But sadly, it is all too common for HSPs and empaths to find themselves wrapped up with a narcissistic person who doesn't care about their good-natured traits but instead uses your empathy, love, and kindness to their advantage. Either way, it may be time for some tough conversations with yourself and others. Tune in to this episode to get the lowdown on relationships as an HSP and empath. 6. What You Should Know About Energy Leaks
Energy Leak: something that is taking up space and leaking energy from you. It can be sneaky and small and you might not even realize it's leaking your energy. When life starts to feel heavy and draining for no reason, it can usually be traced back to an energy leak or two. 5. Why Too Much Self-Help Can Be Unhealthy
5. Why Too Much Self-Help Can Be Unhealthy
It all started from a genuine place to feel better... We never intend for self-help to become like a bad habit that consumes us and every waking moment -- but it can if we aren't careful. We can get so caught up in "bettering ourselves" that it causes us immense anxiety and stress when we do things that are labeled as unproductive.  I share about my journey to discovering the self-help world, how I let it take over my life, and my light-bulb moment when I knew it had gone too far. I'd realized that I stopped doing the things I enjoyed or found simple pleasures in. Instead, I felt that every single minute had to be productive or else it was a waste. If this sounds like you then pop in those ear buds and hit play! In this episode, you'll learn: • How to tell when you're burned out from self-help. • Finding balance between bettering oneself and enjoying life. • Why life is better when you're not always trying to "fix" yourself. 4. Why Your Triggers are Opportunities for Growth
Triggers can show up in all sorts of ways -- from an immediate emotional reaction like anger or sadness to a physical gut reaction like shaking, feeling sick or nauseous. It can be overwhelming and happen so suddenly that we aren't aware until we're deep in the feels. It can be easy to blame others when we're triggered but instead we should empower ourselves to find the root cause of the issue and why what that person did triggered us in the first place. Turn the focus inward and respect yourself enough to work through the problems.  In this episode, you'll learn: How to know when you're being triggered. What triggers actually mean. How to find the root cause of these emotions. Follow along on Instagram @lifebyalissa Learn more at lifebyalissa.com Join the waitlist for the Highly Sensitive & Soulful Membership

3. Feeling Your Feelings and Emotional Regulation
3. Feeling Your Feelings and Emotional Regulation
Maybe you grew up being told your emotions were "too much" or you were in a household where it was literally unsafe to express how you were feeling...now as an adult you find it difficult to handle these emotions and feelings. As I currently work through feelings of grief in my own life, philosophies on Emotional Regulation have been coming up a lot. It can be so much easier to numb out or blow up instead of just feeling the feelings and moving on.   Growth, expansion, and a stronger version of yourself is on the other side of your emotions. You must be willing to move through them in order to live your healthiest life.  In this episode, you'll learn:  How to deal with your emotions in a healthy way. Knowing the difference between over-regulation and under-regulation.  Some tools to move through your emotions instead of shoving them down.   Follow along on Instagram @lifebyalissa  Learn more at lifebyalissa.com  Join the waitlist for the Highly Sensitive & Soulful Membership

2. Boundaries Are How We Teach People To Treat Us
2. Boundaries Are How We Teach People To Treat Us
This if the first of many podcast episodes on boundaries. As an HSP and empath, people pleasing can be our natural tendency which often leads to a lot of blurred lines and lack of boundaries. Every time we say yes to someone else and what they want, we are saying no to ourselves. Boundaries not only allow us to honor ourselves but also show others how to treat and respect us.  In this episode, you'll learn:  When and where you need boundaries.  How to enforce the boundaries you put in place. Why it's worth some uncomfortable conversations.  Taking responsibility for your own actions.  Follow along on Instagram @lifebyalissa  Learn more at lifebyalissa.com  Grab my boundaries mini-course the HSP Boundary Bundle Join the waitlist for the Highly Sensitive & Soulful Membership

My mission in life is to help other highly sensitive souls learn how to embrace their sensitivity as a gift and lean into it instead of fighting against it.  In this episode, I talk about my own personal journey to discovering I'm an HSP and how I've turned it into my ultimate super power which has allowed me to now help thousands of others do the same! The world is a better place when more sensitive and deep-feeling people are comfortable and confident in their skin.  I'm so happy you're here.  Follow along on Instagram @lifebyalissa  Learn more at lifebyalissa.com Join the waitlist for the Highly Sensitive & Soulful Membership
