All Girls Want Bad Podcasts

This is an Alex episode. She read One Day in December by Josie Silver (finally; it’s been on her tbr list for approximately ever). Once again our oldest friend joins our discussion for, sadly, the last time this round as she must go back home.

This week we have a special guest! Our oldest friend regales us with a summary of the novella Talk Sweetly To Me by the powerhouse Courtney Milan. She chose it by googling math romance novels, so you can kind of predict what kind of nerd she is.

Evangelina read the Marked series by the romance elite S.J. Day. It’s...a ride. Not one love interest is perfect. There’s a lot of questionable religious imagery and parallels. Ms. Day, I hate to be the one to say it but the Bible is, well, it’s just not sexy. Trigger warning: we talk about dubious consent in the novel. There’s also a fair bit of unfortunate rape culture talk happening.

This week Alex talks about How to Hack a Heartbreak by Kristen Rockaway. It’s not great. The book, that is. Alex is always great.

It’s the long awaited (maybe just for Alex) release day of the Can You Keep a Secret movie. In honor of this momentous occasion, Alex rambles on about all the Sophie Kinsella books she’s read and gives an unofficial, incomplete ranking of best to worst.

This week is Still Star-Crossed by Melinda Taub. The novel, not the short-lived tv show. It’s Evangelina’s week so you know it’s going to be a good time.

This week is an itty bitty episode. Alex kicks it off with By the Book by Julia Sonneborn (spoiler: she does not recommend it). Evangelina finishes the episode with a fond retelling of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer.

It’s an Evangelina week. She talks about Asher Black: A Fake Fiancé Mafia Romance by Parker Huntington. It’s a good time.

This week Alex talks about her favorite book of her childhood (and possibly all time) Titanic: The Long Night by Diane Hoh.

This week, Alex talks about Seed: A Dark Sci-Fi Omegaverse Romance by Penelope Woods. It is...quite the journey. ***Warnings for body horror, fun-con, and threats of rape. It’s a pretty dark book.***

This week, Evangelina talks about To Catch A Pirate by Jade Parker. There are pirate hunters, no one gets seasick, and Alex literally falls in love with one of the characters. It’s a delightful time.

This week, Evangelina talks about Virgin Tribute by Delta James and...oh dear. There was a lot to talk about. There was smacking of body parts that should not be smacked and some truly baffling euphemisms.

Alex discusses the novel Not So Nice Guy by R. S. Grey and reminisces on high school science class with Evangelina.

It’s Evangelina’s week, and she takes Alex on a journey through Prince of Swords by Linda Winstead Jones. Among topics of conversation are loss of virginity, who the main character SHOULD have ended up with, and the seminal teen comedy Whatever It Takes.

The ladies do things a little differently this week. Alex discusses From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata and brings up the 1992 seminal classic The Cutting Edge at every conceivable chance she gets. Evangelina is a good sport about it.

Issues abound in this special episode. Alex and Evangelina discuss the recently released Fix Her Up by Tessa Bailey and dive deep into the issues within the novel, as well as they issues they had with the novel. They leave no spoilers unturned, so if you plan to read this novel and don’t want to be spoiled, come back after! If you’ve already read it or don’t plan to (or are like Evangelina and like your plots spoiled), listen to the good, the bad, and the questionable.

Oh boy. This week is chock full of highs and lows. On the high side, Evangelina read a lovely novel called The Matchmaker by Natasha West. Alex suffered through Protecting Freedom by Alexa Riley and was so offended she had to bring everyone else down with her. Trigger warning for this episode: Protecting Honor contains an age gap romance where the girl is literally just 18 when she and her love interest engage in a sexual relationship. Alex dives pretty heavily into the disturbing nature of portraying a romance where the main character has been lusted after since she was 15. Stay safe if that’s going to bother you!

Sorry, both books this week were great so we each took an hour to gush. Evangelina leads the discussion with The Real Deal by Lauren Blakely. Alex talks about Kulti by Mariana Zapata (which is not about a cult). We talk about tropes we love and have experienced first- hand.

In this minuscule episode, Alex loses her mind over Bare Ass in Love by Sasha Burke and Evangelina talks about the first romance novel she ever bought for herself (Easily Amused by Karen McQuestion).

This week we discuss Losing It by Cara Cormack and Crazy Cupid Love by Amanda Heger. We each do a trope of the week. And, as always, Alex asks way too many questions.

This week, Evangelina discusses the delightful To Have and to Harley by Regina Cole, and Alex is a mess who partially discusses The Ugly Dutchess by Eloisa James, then fangirls over The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren. Later, they discuss tropes gone wrong in their own lives: Captive Date and May-December Romance.
