S3E2-Getting Comfortable with Overlanding (Practice Makes Perfect, Prioritization, Problem Solving)
On this episode of the Podcast/Vlog, I'm going to talk through some tips that will help you if you're new to Overlanding or if you feel like you don't go on trips because you're worried you don't have enough gear or the right vehicle. I know that it took years of taking trips before I really felt like I had the right mix of gear and know how to be pretty self sufficient so hopefully this episode will be helpful for those that are delaying trips because they need that one last piece of gear or they want to buy a brand new Toyota 4Runner and they're saving up.  If you enjoy the episode, drop a thumbs up below. If you have any questions or thoughts on the topic, jump in on the comments and let's chat! Thanks for watching! I'll talk through some of the benefits and give a few tips for taking advantage of the holidays to sneak in some trips. Whether you want to take the family camping/Overlanding or, get away from the family because you've spent too much time together, haha. There are four main tips and I even threw in a bonus tip at the end. So, check them out, comment below with any other tips you might have for Holiday camping/Overlanding and we'll see you next year! S2E43-What Kind of Overlanding Content Do You Want? (Casual Overlander, Feedback, Requests, For You)
On this week's short Vlog/Podcast, I'm talking through an idea that came up on a call with Will from Last US Bag Company a few days ago. We were discussing how the real majority of Overlanders were normal people like me who love it and want to go whenever they can, but are often too busy and can just grab 1 or 2 night trips.  I feel like those people are underrepresented in the content being produced generally for Overlanding. Nothing against those super talented content creators who take epic, long term trips and make amazingly beautiful films, but that doesn't represent the majority of Overlanders. So, this week I just wanted to talk through that a bit and give some opinions on what content I'll be producing to serve that audience.  Also, as always, I'd love to hear from you guys and girls on what content you'd like to see. Let me know what you're interested in and I'm happy to do my best to provide it! S2E37-New Offgrid Raptor Roof Top Tent! (Walkaround, Features, Reasons for Selection, Impressions)
On this episode of the Vlog/Podcast, I've got a pretty big update. I ended up making the tough decision to switch from my DIY Roof Top Tent to a purchased roof top tent.  In this video, I run through the reasons I made the decision, the type of RTT that I went with and why, as well as show you around the entire tent and comprehensively cover the features of it.  It's called the Offgrid Voyager Raptor Series roof top tent (link in the description below). It was a heck of a value compared to a lot of competitors out there and after spending a couple of nights in it, I really like it. Again, I talk through that in the video, so check it out! S2E14-Effects of Coronavirus on Overlanding, Adventure, and Travel Businesses-Social Distancing Chat
On this episode of the Vlog/Podcast, I'm really excited about all the great business owners that I am talking to. In the midst of this Coronavirus pandemic, there are many Overlanding, Vehicle Outfitting, Travel Planning, Expo Planners and more that are being heavily affected.  On this round table (virtual) chat, I was lucky enough to chat with a number of people in the adventure industry to see how it was affecting their business (both negatively and positively) and we were able to discuss some of the things that they are doing to offset the current losses in order to keep supporting the community. Of course, these people are some of the best out there so I highly recommend that you scroll down in this description and click through to their websites and social channels to give them a like and, if you can, support them by ordering some gear that you've been thinking about or planning a trip or getting tickets to a future event that they are putting on.  Here is the list of vendors that were on the call: Cindy-Northology Adventures and KOAR Overlanding Retreat: KOAR-keweenawoverlandadventureretreat.com KOAR Facebook-https://www.facebook.com/KEWEENAWOVERLANDADVENTURERETREAT KOAR Instagram-https://www.instagram.com/koar.up/ Northology-https://northologyadventures.com Northology Facebook-https://www.facebook.com/Northology-Overland-924968230989108 Chris-MOORE Expo: Website-www.mooreexpo.com YouTube-https://youtu.be/C0Zdm6Sp6Dg Facebook-https://www.facebook.com/MOOREEXPO Instagram-https://www.instagram.com/mooreexpo/ Todd-TC Teardrop Trailers: Website-https://www.tcteardrops.com Facebook-https://www.facebook.com/TCTeardropsLLC Instagram-https://www.instagram.com/tcteardrops/ YouTube-https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmxhMhTKPuJRA4chOJ72Pgg Kevin-Rocktown Adventures: Website-https://rocktownadventures.com/  Facebook-https://www.facebook.com/RocktownAdventures/  Instagram-https://www.instagram.com/rocktownadventures/  Online Store-https://store.rocktownadventures.com/  Ryan-CB Adventure Supply: Website-https://www.cbadventuresupply.com/ Facebook-https://www.facebook.com/cbadventuresupply/ Instagram-https://www.instagram.com/cb_adventure_supply/ Joe-Chitown 4x4: Website-https://www.chitown4x4.com/store/c1/chitown4x4Home Facebook-https://www.facebook.com/chitown4x4 Instagram-https://www.instagram.com/chitown4x4/ Chad-Overland Addict: Website-overlandaddict.com Facebook-https://www.facebook.com/overlandaddict Instagram-https://www.instagram.com/overlandaddict/ YouTube-https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiUeDAAukjW2oa9GAuLPe5g Thanks for watching and if you enjoy the video, please consider clicking subscribe and the bell to be notified when new videos drop! S2-Bonus-Dealing with Covid-19 (Coronavirus, being thankful, staying busy, exciting stuff to come)
On this bonus episode of the Vlog/Podcast, I just wanted to say a few things about the COVID-19/Coronavirus thing that is going on. I've been thinking a lot about it (as I'm sure we all have) and as Overlanders, we have some responsibilities. We also have some ways to stay busy and hopeful, so I just wanted to chat through a few of those things because they were on my mind.  I'm going to walk through some things I'm thankful for, some ideas I've heard or have done to stay busy, as well as some exciting stuff that we have to look forward to! I'd love to hear from all of you guys in the comments as far as what you're doing to stay busy and keep yourself and your friends and family safe. Also, as mentioned in the video, if anyone is stuck or feels trapped in their house and just wants to chat about Overlanding stuff or if there's anything I can do to help, just hit me up at allthingsoverlanding@gmail.com, or DM me on my social channels. S2E10-Overlandmeetup.com Founder Interview (Lee Odom, Overlanding Forum, Overland Trailer Rental)
On this episode of the Vlog/Podcast, I'm doing another interview. This time I'm talking to a gentleman named Lee Odom who created the overlandmeetup.com online forum. I've mentioned this forum before because it's a great alternative to some of the other larger forums out there that are so loud and noisy and don't allow you to control your info or to share or learn quite as much as this forum. He also has a number of projects he's working on including a centralized single website that will feed all your Overlanding needs (https://www.oneoverland.com) as well as a really interesting website where you can rent Overlanding trailers if you don't have the room (or cash) to buy and store your own (https://www.overlandtrailerusa.com). If you want to hear more about the fascinating story behind this company and how he supports the Overlanding community, check out the video! S2E7-Overlanding as a Hobby ("Real" Overlanding, Budget Overlanding, Weekend Trips, Prepping, Mods)
On this episode of the Vlog/Podcast, I wanted to touch on something that I've heard from a number of you guys. Most of the larger Overlanding channels that we all know and love are constantly showing us epic trips to foreign countries or down epic challenging trails. Unfortunately, for most of us, that's not the reality of the bulk of our Overlanding trips. So, on this episode, I wanted to talk about what really happens on a "normal Joe's" Overlanding trip.  I'll cover things like planning before the trip, what I do on the trip, and what I do in between trips. Let me know if this resonates with you and what an Overlanding trip looks like for you in the comments below! S2E5-What do you do while Overlanding? (Podcast, Vlog, Offroading, Cooking, Process Wood, Beer, Eat)
On this episode of the Vlog/Podcast, I wanted to cover a question I get quite a bit. That question is "What do you do when you go on Overlanding trips?" Lots of my family and friends don't really get camping or Overlanding, so they frequently say things like "Why would you want to leave your house and your perfectly good bed to go out in the woods for days?"  Believe it or not, but if you've never been, there are a ton of super fun things to do! In this episode, I'm going to go through some of the fun and interesting stuff that you can expect on an Overlanding trip. Thanks for watching and if you enjoy the video, please consider clicking subscribe and the bell to be notified when new videos drop! Lots of people have asked how they can support the channel, so if you want an ATO sticker, just hit me up! 3.5” White Circular ATO Sticker:  $6.00 including shipping, handling, and Paypal fees! S2E4-Simplicity VS Complexity in your Overlanding Setup (Outfitting, Best Rig, Best Gear, Planning)
On this episode of the Vlog/Podcast, I’ve started to notice that in my search to reduce the amount of gear I have to carry on a trip, I may have started to introduce some needless complexity to my setup.  In the past, I think I've made decisions about modifications based more on emotion and excitement at seeing something on an Overlanding YouTube channel, rather than what makes the most sense for my needs and trips.  So, on this episode, I wanted to talk through the pros and cons of both complex setups as well as simple setups.  For example, having a really new vehicle can have some advantages and disadvantages based on the complexity of it. You might have more creature comforts, more USB charging ports, and more reliability due to the vehicle being newer. However, it might be more complex or difficult to repair while off-road due to being newer and having more parts.  In this video, I'm just talking through some examples of pros and cons, but I'd really like to hear from you guys on setups you've used that may have been too complex and didn't work well on a trip. Or, tell me about a way that you were able to do something with a simple piece of gear that beats out a more complex piece every time. Thanks for listening. Lots of people have asked how they can support the channel, so if you want an ATO sticker, just hit me up! 3.5” White Circular ATO Sticker:  $6.00 including shipping, handling, and Paypal fees! Just email me at allthingsoverlanding@gmail.com and we can set up Paypal payment and I’ll get it shipped out (plus, I'll include a bonus with the first 25 orders)! S2E3-Negativity in the Overlanding Community Vs. Positivity (Toxic, Bullying, Community, Newbies)
On this episode of the Vlog/Podcast, I’m going to be talking about online negativity in the Overlanding community as well as all of the amazing, positive experiences I’ve had interacting with other Overlanders both in person and online. The goal is to start a conversation about how we can all be better stewards of the Overlanding community. When we see people going out of their way online to make new Overlanders feel dumb or unwanted, what can we do to help these new people and build the community? I’d love to hear from you guys in the comments about any experiences you’ve had and what your thoughts are! Thanks for watching. S1E26 Occupation and Overlanding - (Flexibility, Overlanding Full Time, Budget, Trust, Best Options)
On this final episode for 2019, I'm talking about job choice versus your need or desire to go Overlanding. Unfortunately, not all of us have the ability to just quit our jobs and go full time in Overlanding (most of us don't).  I start by touching on a bit of my job history and the fact that for a long time, I was searching for a higher salary at any expense. Whether that meant losing time with my family or opportunities to take Overlanding trips.  Then, I'll discuss some things I've learned from that history and where I've ended up from a job stand point and give some tips/pointers that have taken me about 20 years to learn on my own. I hope it's helpful for those of you in similar situations! There are good options out there for finding something you love doing for a job that gives you the flexibility to pursue your passion for Overlanding!  If you like the episode, please like, comment, and subscribe!  For a full list of my gear, check out this page for quick reference links:  http://allthingsoverlanding.com/gear/  For more great content and info, you can follow me on Facebook, Instagram, or search for All Things Overlanding on all the major podcast channels! S1E25 Leave No Trace and the Internet - (Social Media, Bullying, Environmental Responsibility)
On this episode, I wanted to touch on the value of “Leave No Trace” as well as some people’s behaviors in real life and particularly online. As with all of my vlogs, the goal isn’t to “blow up the internet” or start a fight, just a conversation.  Not everyone will agree with everything I say and I get that, so if you don’t agree or have anything to add, I’d love to hear from you in the comments!  The article that spawned this topic can be found on the Outsideonline.com website here:  https://www.outsideonline.com/2405316/public-lands-hates-you-instagram-blacklist And here is a link to the Leave No Trace website if you would like to check it out yourself:  https://lnt.org/ If you like the episode, please like, comment, and subscribe!  For a full list of my gear, check out this page for quick reference links:  http://allthingsoverlanding.com/gear/  For more great content and info, you can follow me on Facebook, Instagram, or search for All Things Overlanding on all the major podcast channels! S1E22-Necessary VS. Comfort (Camping, Overlanding, Recommendations, Does it matter?)
On today's Vlog/Podcast, I'm going to chat about what items are absolutely necessary for an overlanding trip VS. what items might be considered "comfort" items. I want to start a conversation about how "pure" we want to view overlanding. Do you need to only bring the bare bones essentials? Does it matter if you have some super swaggy gear that makes the trip much more comfortable? Most importantly, what are your thoughts? Please post up below in the comments to let me know what pieces of gear are essential to you versus which ones you might consider a "comfort" item that you can't live without! S1E20-Cold Weather Camping (Winter Camping, Cold Weather Gear, Benefits, Downsides, Overlanding)
APOLOGIES FOR THE SOUND QUALITY-The wind wouldn't stop blowing and I should have used a lapel mic instead of a shotgun mic. This was a spur of the moment trip and I wasn't prepared, :D. Learn from my mistakes! Always go prepared (maybe not to record a podcast, but to Overland for sure). Thanks for checking it out any ways.  On today's Vlog/Podcast, I'm going to switch things up after last week's "least favorite" camping weather (rain). Instead, I'm going to talk about the weather I prefer most:  cold weather.  I'm talking through the benefits of cold weather camping, the downsides to cold weather camping, and then what gear you'll need to make it a good time.  Most importantly, what are your thoughts? Have you had good experiences camping in cold weather? Do you have some "impossible to live without" piece of winter gear? Post up in the comments below to let me know what you guys think. Thanks! On today's Vlog/Podcast, based on a trip I just took where I got soaked and wasn't well prepared, I'm talking about camping/overlanding in the rain. I'm going to cover my experiences that have made me so negative about camping in the rain, the downsides of camping in the rain, and then some tips/recommendations to help improve your trip if you get caught out in the rain.  Most importantly, what are your thoughts? S1E14-Solar and Overlanding (benefits, simple or complex?, terms and install)
On today's Podcast, I'll be talking about a topic that I've recently been putting a ton of time and research into. That's solar power.  I recently purchased a 100 Watt Renogy polycrystalline solar panel with PMW controller. I plan to use it to keep a deep cycle battery (separate from my main, starter battery) charged in my new drawer system I'm building in the back of the truck. The goal will be to have a constant source of power that I can use to charge things like my laptop, phone, GMRS radios, small battery packs, etc. So, if you want to hear more about what I've learned which will hopefully save you hours, days, and even weeks of research, give it a listen!  Renogy 100W Solar Kit:  https://amzn.to/2ZIZGs8 And here's a link to an Overland Bound Forum topic with lots of good info:  https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/solar-panel-open-discussion-debate-review.25645/page-9#post-356946 If you like the episode, please like, comment, and subscribe! S1E11-Cooking Basics (Coleman stove, utensils, pots and pans, Mountain House, canned food, camping)
On today's Podcast, I'm talking about the basics of cooking while Overlanding. There are a few things you need to think about like gear you'll need based on the complexity of what you're going to cook. You'll also need to think about what kind of storage is required based on what you want to make.  For example, if you're cooking very complex things, you'll need additional pots, pans, utensils, storage containers, perhaps a fridge/freezer. You'll need bigger and more capable cooking surfaces like a Skottle or double burner stove.  Or, you can go super basic, and just bring Mountain House meals that basically require you to boil some water and pour it into a bag and you're done. If you are looking to build your cooking gear collection, here are links to the items specifically mentioned in this episode. S1E9-Audio Tips and Tricks
On today's Vlog/Podcast, we're talking about the final part of the mini-series about adventure photography, videography, and audio. Improving the audio in your adventure videos is one of the quickest and easiest ways to improve the overall quality of your videos!  So, on this episode, my goal is to give you a brief understanding of the different types of mics you can use, some software examples that can make your life easier, and then a bit about sound design to make your videos more exciting. S1E7-Adventure Photography for Your Trips

S1E6-Overlanding for 2 days for just $25?!?
On today's Vlog/Podcast, I'm talking about Overlanding on a budget. I've heard a lot of talk on forums and Facebook groups from people that are new to Overlanding asking what they should purchase before their first trip. So, I decided to create this Podcast to cover how cheaply you could take a two day trip. The goal here was to plan a 2 day trip while spending only $25 or less. Listen to the Podcast to see how I did. Hint, I didn't do it for $25, :D.  So, check it out! If you like the episode, please like, comment, and subscribe! If you have ideas of other options or think I missed the mark, please feel free to comment. Thanks for listening and enjoy!
