S1E22-Necessary VS. Comfort (Camping, Overlanding, Recommendations, Does it matter?)
On today's Vlog/Podcast, I'm going to chat about what items are absolutely necessary for an overlanding trip VS. what items might be considered "comfort" items. I want to start a conversation about how "pure" we want to view overlanding. Do you need to only bring the bare bones essentials? Does it matter if you have some super swaggy gear that makes the trip much more comfortable? Most importantly, what are your thoughts? Please post up below in the comments to let me know what pieces of gear are essential to you versus which ones you might consider a "comfort" item that you can't live without! S1E21-Overlanding Vehicle Mods/05 Nissan Xterra Build (Camping, Recommendations, Xterra Walkaround)
On today's Vlog/Podcast, I'm doing a walkaround of my 2005 Nissan Xterra SE. I'm going to talk through the mods I've done and why related to overlanding. While these mods relate to the Xterra, they have a lot of relevance no matter what kind of vehicle you drive. If you're looking to get into Overlanding and haven't purchased a vehicle, have an Xterra, or have any sort of vehicle, there will be a lot of value in this video for you! Most importantly, what are your thoughts? Please post up below in the comments to let me know what pieces of gear are essential to your build! S1E20-Cold Weather Camping (Winter Camping, Cold Weather Gear, Benefits, Downsides, Overlanding)
APOLOGIES FOR THE SOUND QUALITY-The wind wouldn't stop blowing and I should have used a lapel mic instead of a shotgun mic. This was a spur of the moment trip and I wasn't prepared, :D. Learn from my mistakes! Always go prepared (maybe not to record a podcast, but to Overland for sure). Thanks for checking it out any ways.  On today's Vlog/Podcast, I'm going to switch things up after last week's "least favorite" camping weather (rain). Instead, I'm going to talk about the weather I prefer most:  cold weather.  I'm talking through the benefits of cold weather camping, the downsides to cold weather camping, and then what gear you'll need to make it a good time.  Most importantly, what are your thoughts? Have you had good experiences camping in cold weather? Do you have some "impossible to live without" piece of winter gear? Post up in the comments below to let me know what you guys think. Thanks! S1E19-Camping in the Rain (Inclement weather, downsides, wet camping, rain gear, overlanding)
On today's Vlog/Podcast, based on a trip I just took where I got soaked and wasn't well prepared, I'm talking about camping/overlanding in the rain. I'm going to cover my experiences that have made me so negative about camping in the rain, the downsides of camping in the rain, and then some tips/recommendations to help improve your trip if you get caught out in the rain.  Most importantly, what are your thoughts? Have you had good experiences camping in the rain? Do you have some "impossible to live without" piece of rain gear? Post up in the comments below to let me know what you guys think. Thanks! S1E18-Fauxverlanding (Fake Overlander, Gear for Gear Sake, Too Many Jerry Cans, Your Thoughts?)
On today's Vlog/Podcast, I'm going to talk about "Fauxverlanding" versus "real" Overlanding. The intent isn't to piss anyone off, but rather to open up a dialog about what makes someone a "real" Overlander and what gives Overlanding a bad name.  What are your thoughts? S1E15-Too Much Gear (Pros and Cons, Gear Explosion, Reducing Gear, Backpacking, Roof Top Tent)
On today's Podcast, I'll be talking about how to maximize your gear. As I've discussed on previous episodes, you can quickly get hooked on gear and as your stuff explodes, your trips get harder to plan, longer to pack and unpack for, and a pain to find things during. Want to learn more about how to start making better use of your space in your rig? Want to learn some tips on how to reduce your overall gear footprint? S1E14-Solar and Overlanding (benefits, simple or complex?, terms and install)
On today's Podcast, I'll be talking about a topic that I've recently been putting a ton of time and research into. That's solar power.  I recently purchased a 100 Watt Renogy polycrystalline solar panel with PMW controller. I plan to use it to keep a deep cycle battery (separate from my main, starter battery) charged in my new drawer system I'm building in the back of the truck. The goal will be to have a constant source of power that I can use to charge things like my laptop, phone, GMRS radios, small battery packs, etc. So, if you want to hear more about what I've learned which will hopefully save you hours, days, and even weeks of research, give it a listen!  Renogy 100W Solar Kit:  https://amzn.to/2ZIZGs8 And here's a link to an Overland Bound Forum topic with lots of good info:  https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/solar-panel-open-discussion-debate-review.25645/page-9#post-356946 If you like the episode, please like, comment, and subscribe! On today's Podcast, I'll be talking about a new trend I've been seeing a lot on YouTube. It's called "Van Life." There are a huge number of videos popping up in my feed from people who are creating awesome ways to work, live, and travel out of their vehicles. On this episode, I'm talking a bit about that, the logistics of considering it for yourself, what to think about if going full time or part time into Van Life, and how we, as Overlanders, can learn from the Van Life folks. On today's Podcast, I'll be talking about some options for powering your adventures. Everything from deep cycle batteries, to dual battery set ups, to solar. I'm going to briefly touch on my power needs and how they've changed over the years (and how that affected my power set up).  Then we're going to talk through the pros and cons of each of the various set ups. S1E11-Cooking Basics (Coleman stove, utensils, pots and pans, Mountain House, canned food, camping)
On today's Podcast, I'm talking about the basics of cooking while Overlanding. There are a few things you need to think about like gear you'll need based on the complexity of what you're going to cook. You'll also need to think about what kind of storage is required based on what you want to make.  For example, if you're cooking very complex things, you'll need additional pots, pans, utensils, storage containers, perhaps a fridge/freezer. You'll need bigger and more capable cooking surfaces like a Skottle or double burner stove.  Or, you can go super basic, and just bring Mountain House meals that basically require you to boil some water and pour it into a bag and you're done. If you are looking to build your cooking gear collection, here are links to the items specifically mentioned in this episode. S1E7-Adventure Photography for Your Trips
On today's Vlog/Podcast, I'm taking a bit of a departure from the typical topics discussed. Being a budget minded Overlander, I've done my best over the last 4 years or so to teach myself a bit of the basics about adventure photography. If you follow me on Instagram, you'll see that over the years, my photos have dramatically improved. So, on this episode, my goal is to help you skip some of the learning curve while giving you some quick, actionable tips that you can start using today to improve the pictures you take of your truck, landmarks, and trips.  On the next couple of podcast episodes, I'll cover Videography and Audio as well so that you will have all the info you need to start your own Youtube Channel, or create your own Instagram account, while saving you valuable time and money that you might have otherwise spent on expensive camera gear. Hope you enjoy! If you like the episode, please like, comment, and subscribe! If you have any other suggestions that might help others, please feel free to comment. Thanks in advance for any tips or feedback!
