يشغل السيد عبد الصمد منصب المدير التنفيذي لشبكة المنظمات العربية غير الحكومية للتنمية (ANND) التي تضم 30 منظمة غير حكومية و 9 شبكات وطنية من 10 دول عربية. يرتكز عملها على الحقوق الاجتماعية والاقتصادية. شارك السيد عبد الصمد بشكل كبير ولعدة سنوات في الجهود المحلية والوطنية والإقليمية والعالمية المتعلقة بالسياسات العامة ومؤسسات البحث والإصلاحات الانتخابية والمراقبة. وهو أيضًا مهندس مدني، وعضو نقابة المهندسين والمعماريين في لبنان، ومحاضر جامعي.  

Ziad Abdel Samad elaborates on civic space in Lebanon, its monitoring, and the way forward in a conversation with Alternative Frequencies host Christelle Barakat.

Mr. Abdel Samad serves as the Executive Director of the Arab NGO Network for Development (ANND), which brings together 30 NGOs and 9 national networks from 10 Arab countries whose work focuses on socioeconomic rights. Mr. Abdel Samad has been highly engaged for several years in local, national, regional, and global efforts related to public policies, research institutions, and electoral reforms and monitoring. He is also a Civil Engineer, a member of the Order of Engineers and Architects in Lebanon, and a university lecturer. 

Hala Abdallah discusses with Alternative Frequencies host Christelle Barakat the realities of the Lebanese agricultural sector in light of the overlapping crises and offers recommendations for improvement.

Hala Abdallah currently serves as the Director of Studies and Coordination at the Ministry of Agriculture in Lebanon. She holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics and Management from the University of Montpellier SupAgro.

Industrial Entrepreneur and CEO of Polytextile Paul Abi Nasr discusses with Alternative Frequencies host Christelle Barakat the realities of the Lebanese manufacturing sector in light of the current overlapping crises and offers recommendations for the improvement of the sector as well as advice for youth wanting to become industrialists and entrepreneurs.

Paul Abi Nasr is an industrial entrepreneur and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Polytextile. He is also a member of the board of directors at the Association of Lebanese Industrialists (ALI) where he additionally chairs the Industrialists Assembly of Keserwan.

Three years into Lebanon's economic and financial meltdown, Founder and President of the Lebanese Institute for Market Studies Patrick Mardini says that the economy has not hit bottom yet, and although the government has taken some preliminary steps to implement reforms, there are few signs of recovery on the horizon.

LCPS Fellow Fadi Nicholas Nassar discusses with Alternative Frequencies host Ali Taha the alarming state of vulnerability and alienation of youth in Lebanon and unpacks some key concerns and priorities of a generation living through a critical period in Lebanon's history.

Fadi Nicholas Nassar is a research fellow at the Lebanese Center for Policy Studies (LCPS). His research focuses on international humanitarian and relief interventions in fragile and conflict settings, popular uprisings and social movements, and Lebanese and Middle Eastern politics. He is currently overseeing projects aimed at finding sustainable pathways out of Lebanon’s multiple crises. Fadi is an Assistant Professor of Political Science and International Affairs and Director of the Institute for Social Justice and Conflict Resolution at Lebanese American University (LAU). He holds a Ph.D. from the War Studies Department at King’s College London. A graduate of Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, he also received a Master of Public Administration from Columbia University.

Dany Lichaa El-Khoury, project manager at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Lebanon, discusses with Lina Maddah the challenges that entrepreneurs face in rural areas and the policies that can help them build sustainable businesses. The issues addressed include strategic agricultural planning at the local level, innovative methods of financing the agricultural sector, and the role local governments can play.

Danny Lichaa El-Khoury is an expert in agriculture and rural development. He holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) and a Master of Science in Integrated Rural Planning from the International Center for Mediterranean Agricultural Studies in Spain. He has over 25 years of experience in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, and Africa in agricultural and rural development, strategic planning, institutional development, Geographic Information System (GIS), and environmental planning.

Rony Al Assaad, Secretary-General of the Lebanese Association for Democratic Elections (LADE), discusses with Ali Taha the main challenges facing the upcoming 2022 parliamentary elections. He revisits some of the most important lessons drawn from the 2018 elections and talks about the measures that can be taken to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

Roni Al-Assaad is the Secretary-General of the Lebanese Association for Democratic Elections (LADE). He was the coordinator of the Northern Matn District for monitoring the elections, and then coordinator of the Civil Campaign for Electoral Reform for four years with LADE. He previously held the position of executive director in the Lebanese People’s Relief Society, and before that, the project officer at Hivos and International Alert. He holds a master’s degree in Applied Human Rights from York University in the UK and a BA in Political and Administrative Sciences from the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at the Lebanese University in 2009.

Marie-Louise El-Hayek, project manager and gender coordinator at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Lebanon, discusses with Lina Maddah the policies pertaining to the creation and sustainability of efficient cooperatives and associations in the agri-food sector in rural areas of Lebanon. She also addresses the importance of providing viable tools for understanding the constraints and opportunities in agricultural cooperation and sheds light on women's empowerment and their role in rural cooperatives.

Marie-Louise El-Hayek holds a degree in agricultural engineering from the Lebanese University, a master's degree in food safety from the Francophone University Agency in France, and a certificate in food sciences and technology from the National Agricultural Institute of Paris-Gringon. She has more than 20 years of experience in the food and agricultural sectors with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), which is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger, improve nutrition, and maintain food security.

After working with the Lebanese government for many years, Ziad Hayek discusses with Alternative Frequencies host Bilal El-Amine the key problems posed by the existing system of governance, as well as some solutions that can improve the economy and the functioning of the state.

A former investment banker, Ziad Alexandre Hayek was Secretary General of the Republic of Lebanon's High Council for Privatization and Public-Private Partnership from 2006 until he was nominated to be President of the World Bank in February 2019. Hayek is currently Vice Chair of the Bureau of the UN Economic Commission for Europe Working Party on PPP, Member of the Board of Trustees of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, and High Commissioner for Lebanon at the World Business Angels Investment Forum. In 2014, he was made Officer of the National Order of the Cedar, the highest state order of Lebanon. He has lived and worked in the US, Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East, and he speaks 11 languages.

As the Lebanese government prepares to start formal negotiations with the IMF, Alternative Frequencies host Bilal El-Amine asks Oxfam Regional Director Sally Abi Khalil about the prospects and pitfalls of these critical talks. Is Lebanon prepared for these negotiations and what kinds of outcomes can we expect?

How can the youth be supported both economically and from a mental health perspective? How do they self-identify and what are their ambitions? What kinds of policies are needed to help them accomplish their goals and curtail emigration?
