While on a date at 13, Dr Stephan Neff was jumped by a gang in Germany and his life was never the same.
Stephan Neff has had more than a fair share of trauma in his life. He has tried to drown PTSD, depression and anxiety in industrial doses of vodka but had to learn the hard way that those critters can swim. Nowadays he lives a very different life, where self-love, humility, integrity and transparency actually mean something. He aims to demystify addiction and mental health problems. He hosts the show MY STEPS TO SOBRIETY, and has just released the third edition of his book under the same name. This interview will impact your life in ways unimaginable. One survivor of human trafficking, one survivor of juvenile detention, and two survivors of extreme addiction. Adam Lucero was stabbed in the throat while sitting in a theater, but this Superhuman CEO is now teaching others how to overcome mental blocks.
In 2016, Adam was stabbed in the throat, arm & chest, while at a movie theater. The chef's knife went halfway through his throat, deep into his arm (nearly out the other side) and punctured his lung. He thought he was going to die - but woke up seven days later from a coma. The worst of the physical pain was being carried out of the theater that night, but the biggest struggle was yet to come. Adam was living off tubes. If someone had unplugged them, they literally would have unplugged his life.

He's no stranger to loss, but Martin O'Toole made me cry harder than any other guest I've ever had.
Martin is “a man on the mend." He isn't shy about being a recovered alcoholic with a past life of "spilt milk under burnt bridges." Moments from suicide, his Beagle talked him out of it, and his sharing that story literally had the host sobbing in tears of personal connection.

John Sacco: After the Interview
Sometimes the most magic happens after the recording ends.
His friends were dying, dead, or in prison. His life was surrounded by drugs and drink. How did he pull out of that into a world of light?
In his teens and 20s, John spent most of his time partying. He would regularly drink, smoke cigarettes and weed, and abuse prescription drugs. Then, thanks to a woman he was dating who didn't like cigarettes, he decided to quit smoking cigarettes. This launched him into a fitness routine because of his use of push ups to curb cravings.

She suffered greatly at the hands of others, then had to fight back against a porn addiction and more. Now Peyton Leonard is writing Christian Sci-Fi and I'm here for it!
After growing up with years of abuse, she was stricken by Lyme disease in 2013. It is believed that Lyme lead to being diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and her childhood abuse led to several mental disorders. Amid all of this, she had to face the fact that she had a severe pornography addiction that was disrupting her life in such unhealthy ways. So she learned how to fight back.
Peyton is continuing to pursue her love of music and books. She wrote her first book, Lyme & Not the Fruit, in 2016, and is currently working on her debut Christian science fiction novel!

From attorney to armed robber to Baptist minister, this man's life had more twists and turns than a mystery novel.
He was an accomplished and respected attorney when his gambling problem sent him down the dark road of armed robbery. Just before being sentenced to 15 years in prison, he delivered his first sermon and that changed the trajectory of his life. He's now a former NC State Bar Approved Sponsor of Continuing Legal Education, (CLE) for 11 years, a retired Pastor of an historical Missionary Baptist Church, a husband of nearly 33 years and a father to two wonderful adult children. It's never too late to turn a life around. This interview will impact your life in ways unimaginable. Come be inspired, LISTEN TODAY! https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/amandablackwood

As a special treat, here on the week of my birthday (which is this coming Monday), I'm sharing the behind the scenes conversation with all of you.

Charlene Madden was TWO DAYS from ending it all when one moment changed her life.
Charlene Madden spent most of her life living in a state of darkness. The Army tried to break him, arrest him, and investigate him. He was A Soldier Against All Odds.
Take a Moment for Kindness
Yesterday I stopped to help a woman on a mobility scooter put her groceries into her minivan. Nobody else was stopping. Nobody else was helping, or looking, or doing anything.
But I saw a shift in the attitude of people around me. I saw people smile at the thought of something nice being done. I saw someone else look around as though trying to find someone to help. I saw people in the store asking if I needed help reaching something on a higher shelf. I saw a change, like a ripple effect. I saw it. I liked it.

Fellow podcast host and trauma survivor, Adam Boismier opens up about his suicide attempt and surviving rape.
His fear of failure nearly drove him to success in an attempt to commit suicide, only to be faced with an even more devastating realization later in life: Adam had been raped by a woman he had considered a friend. Now he has a beautiful life, a wonderful marriage, a successful career, a motivating podcast, and a host of supportive people who understand, as Adam does, that vulnerability is strength, not weakness.

Erin Copelan - behind the scenes
Just because the recording stops doesn't mean that the conversation ends. Join Erin and I on a fun journey of additional points and conversation around what it means to be a caregiver and human being.
Many people don't realize the trauma involved with being a caregiver. Erin Copelan literally wrote the book about it.
This one will be hard for so many people. When Erin was a caregiver for her husband, she couldn't find any resources that really spoke to the type of caregiver she found herself having to be. There were books about "self-care" and things that told caregivers in general that they were "angels sent from heaven," but she didn't feel that way. Erin had the "bad" feelings. Anger. Guilt. Frustration. Fear. She was uncomfortable asking for help. She didn't want to complain - she wasn't the one who was sick... and Erin was living a trauma, every. single. day.
And so she wrote a best selling book about what it's like to REALLY be a caregiver. To lend a voice to the community. To help caregivers feel not so alone.
It's not a "how to" guide. Because there is no right way, there's no wrong way, there's only love. This interview will impact your life in ways unimaginable. Come be inspired, LISTEN TODAY! https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/amandablackwood
