Episode 01: Child Negligence

Episode 01: Child Negligence

Child neglect is a form of abuse,[1] an egregious behavior of caregivers (e.g., parents) that results in a deprivation of children of their basic needs, including the failure to provide adequate supervision, health care, clothing, or housing, as well as other physical, emotional, social, educational, and safety needs.[2] All societies have established that there are necessary behaviors a caregiver must provide in order for a child to develop physically, socially, and emotionally. Causes of neglect may result from several parenting problems including mental disorders, unplanned pregnancy, substance abuse, unemployment, over-employment, domestic violence, and, in special cases, poverty. I am your host Vicky Imoya and in this podcast series, I shall be bringing stories from victims of child neglect as they share with us what happened to them.
