Living a life as a child of God and disciple of Jesus means living in love. Not a love by human standard, but God's because He is the expert on the topic. God doesn't just love, He is love.
There are a few places within Scripture that defines love for us in Biblical terms. The picture below is from the presentation used during this past weekend's retreat and I wanted to share it with you because you may find the visual helpful.
When in a situation and trying to determine what will reveal love in that circumstance, I use 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 and Galatians 5:22-23 as my measuring stick.

God created us to live in Shalom (wholeness and peace).
We all know that God’s creation took a detour by a poor decision by a human. Many of us know it as sin entered the world.
God sent His son who became human and conquered sin and death through His life to restore what was broken - which means Jesus made it possible to live according to His original design of humans living in shalom.
This is truth.
Unfortunately, there are those who believe life is warfare. I understand why. Sometimes life can feel like a war. But remember a post I recently made? Reality and truth aren’t the same thing.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12:1-2‬ ‭NLT‬‬
This passage teaches us how to endure and reach the finish line - keep our eyes on Jesus.
How did Jesus endure? He placed his eyes on the joy set before Him.
What did Jesus not do? Complain, stress about his enemies, declare or tell others his struggles every day, act like a victim, constantly speak ill of those who opposed Him.
Another thing Jesus didn’t do was live His life to destroy the enemy.
Jesus lived His life to fulfill the will of the Father.
There’s a huge difference between the two.
One involves constant battles and the other beings fulfillment.
If you believe life is war, then guess what you will face all the time - war
If you believe that God created you to live in shalom, and although it was lost at one point, Jesus restored that, then guess what you will experience- wholeness and peace (shalom)
It’s not that life will be void of circumstance, but you won’t allow reality to overcome Truth.
You will have peace that surpasses understanding. -Jesus
Since your focus is on the joy set before you and Jesus, you’ll always see the joy, even in the midst of struggle.
But if your eye is set on war, you’ll struggle to feel the rest and peace Jesus has promised you because you’re set on fighting battles all the time. Not because you need to but because you think you have to.
Again, it’s not that struggle won’t happen, but your mindset and belief will dictate whether you live a life of conflict or of peace.
I choose to live the Jesus-promised life. Will you join me?

This episode is a bit different from the others.  Let's have a conversation about the Asbury Revival.  I share my opinion, as well as how we can all experience revival in our lives.    There are some that don't view Bible Study as a spiritual activity, but it is.  

Just as worship and prayer is spiritual, studying the Bible is as well.  God's presence can manifest during Bible Study as much as it can during worship.  The key is to seek HIM.  To seek God.    Let's chat about it.  Join me on the journey.

In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul shares with us the most excellent way - Love.  Love is superior to all gifts.  Love is eternal because God is Love.

Together we journey through 1 Corinthians 13 to begin to understand what love looks like.  We explore love and go through Scripture to discover treasure.

This episode is filled is a few nuggets and made it difficult for me to name it.  

We explore the word "judgment" and discuss how this word is commonly interchanged with the word "condemnation."  This has caused our society to have a gross misinterpretation of who God is as Judge.

God made a judgment over humanity.  He made a judgment over you.  This judgment is forgiveness.

God's forgiveness in our lives is not one that should be taken lightly.

I know, right? What kind of question is this??  Well, it's the kind of question that pops into my mind when I see self-righteous, sin-conscious posts on social media and even listen to some preachings.

Sometimes it almost seems like what's being taught is that sin is the path to God.   I know that's not what they mean, but it's the subtle message that's being shared and it causes conflicts deep in our soul.  It prevents us from finding our way to God - because SIN IS NOT THE PATH TO GOD and sin is not a requirement for a human to need God.

Adam, Eve, Jesus, and even babies tell us a different story.  So, join me on today's podcast as we discuss this question.

In this portion of the devo, I share the verses in the Bible that changed my life.  It still has such an impact that I get choked up talking about it.  

I felt "weird" most of my life because of some experiences I've had.  Maybe you have to.  But I'm here to tell you that, you aren't weird!  And, I'm also here to tell you that you can live supernaturally without being weird.  You can live a normal productive life while living supernaturally 24/7

These are questions I have pondered over the last several years and I think I'm finally starting to understand.  Self-awareness and Jesus-awareness are not in opposition.  They work together.
