7@7 #109: Lessons from Bethlehem 4
Have you met the Prince of Peace? Has He made you a minister of peace? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez reflects on the Christmas Carol, O Little Town of Bethlehem. The Prince Provides the Peace. In Micah 5:4b-5, we are told of an enduring peace that is sourced in Christ and extended to us. As Jesus descended upon Bethlehem, He promised peace to all that would come to Him. Christ ends our enmity with God by paying the price for sin. He makes us whole. Jesus also promised to return again. At His 2nd coming, He will establish enduring peace by conquering Satan and his servants. Jesus will gather His own to Himself and care for them forever. In between these comings, we are called to be peacemakers. We make peace on earth by proclaiming the Gospel that sinners might be forgiven. We also work for peace on earth as adopted children of God. We offer peace because we have met the Prince and Author of peace.   Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).

Go Tell It on the Mountain (Sermon)
Do you walk in Joy? Proclaim it from the mountaintops. Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez teaches from the Christmas Carol, Go Tell It on the Mountain. This hymn begins with an Abrupt Announcement to humble shepherds. Shepherds hold a special vocation in God's kingdom. He calls Himself the Good Shepherd. These shepherds were ready for the message as they performed their duty of caring for their flocks. Next, the hymn tells of a Glorious Gospel. The message was heralded by angels. It spoke of joy for all people. Verse 3 expresses a Surprising Salvation. Featuring the humility of God, a child in a manger has come to save the humble. Finally, the chorus of the carol calls us to Passionate Proclamation. A story fulfilled must also be a story shared. Who can you tell today?  Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).

7@7 #108: Lessons from Bethlehem 3
Are you devoted to Christ? Do you delight in Him? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez reflects on the Christmas Carol, O Little Town of Bethlehem. Devotion Promotes Delight. God promises to care for His sheep (Micah 5:4a). His care causes our delight. Still, not all Christians delight in the Lord equally. The depth of our devotion increases our delight in our Savior. We need to incorporate devotional practices that stimulate our desire for Jesus. Pray, read the Scripture, attend church, fast, abstain, fellowship, serve, and witness. These things, performed from a meek heart, will draw you closer to Christ. He will enter you and dine with you. You will increase in delight of Him for eternity. 7@7 #107: Lessons from Bethlehem 2
Do you persevere in Patience? Will you wait on God’s promises? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez reflects on the Christmas Carol, O Little Town of Bethlehem. Patience prepares us for promises. The prophet Micah predicted great things for Bethlehem 700 years before they would take place. The wondrous scene depicted in the second verse of the carol reflects the fulfillment of prophecy that was patiently longed for. Angels and mortals awaited the promised Messiah. Only those walking in patience witnessed the birth of Christ. Upon fulfillment, however, they proclaimed the message to all.  God calls us to patiently wait upon His promises. This patience builds our character and hope. God's patience permits opportunity for repentance and Gospel proclamation. How are you using the waiting time?     Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).

7@7 #106: Lessons from Bethlehem 1
Do you seek honor from others or, do you walk in humility? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez reflects on the Christmas Carol, O Little Town of Bethlehem. Bethlehem was known for its bread. In fact, its name translates to "Bread Town." How fitting that the Messiah, the Bread of Life, would come from Bethlehem. This town of both humble means and stature served as the birthplace of the King of Kings. God prefers to use humble people to fulfill great purposes. Christians should learn from Bethlehem. We must walk in humility and allow God to exalt us in His due time.    Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).

The Best Bread Comes from Breadtown (Sermon)
Are you ready for the Prince of Peace? Look to Bethlehem. Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez explores the Christmas Carol, O Little Town of Bethlehem. This hymn calls us to humility, patience, and devotion as we await our Prince of Peace. Those who wait on the Lord will be blessed. The carol reminds us to look to Christ for honor, fulfilled promises, delight, and peace. Let us follow the example of Bethlehem as we prepare our hearts for Christmas. 7@7 #105: Keeping Christ in Christmas 3
Do you remember your salvation? Do you live daily in light of Christ’s victory? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez reflects on the Christmas story. Christ's first coming brought salvation from sin. His second coming promises triumph over the final enemy, death. As we approach Christmas let us remember our salvation and the present victory we have over sin. Let us extend the offer of salvation to everyone we meet. Christ came and He is coming again.    Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).

Are you walking in Joy? Do you rejoice knowing that you are part of Christ’s Kingdom? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez considers the Christmas story. The first and second comings of Christ are a cause for joy for all believers. Because Christ came, we can now be included in His family. When Christ returns we will rejoice to be part of His visible kingdom. Consider these things and share the joy of Christ with others this season.  Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).

O Come Emmanuel (Sermon)
Do you have joy this Christmas season? Has Emmanuel come into your heart? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez explores the Christmas Carol, O Come O Come Emmanuel. This hymn is filled with theological content. In the first verse, we cry out with Israel for Christ to come and give His presence. The second verse relates a cry for light in the midst of darkness. The Father sends the Son to bring life and light to those that receive Him. Verse 3 begs God to reveal His wisdom and to cause us to follow Him. The final verse relays the desire of all nations for lasting peace that can only come from God. Emmanuel come again and establish peace forever. 7@7 #103: Keeping Christ in Christmas 1
Are you ready for the season? How can we keep Christ in Christmas? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Matthew 1 and Luke 2. The hustle and bustle of the Christmas season can distract from focusing on our Savior. Reflecting on Scripture helps us keep Christ at the center of the season. Matthew tells us that Christ's birth fulfills the prophecy of communion with God. God is with us. Luke retells the angelic declaration that Christ's coming brings peace to humankind. Remembering our communion with God and the harmony this communion brings with our fellow man will help us keep Christ in this Christmas season.   Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).

7@7 #102: End of an Empire 5
Do you denounce sin? Will you warn the wicked? Will you choose repentance over despair? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Daniel 5:22-31. In these verses, Daniel reveals the writing on the wall to Belshazzar. Daniel exposes the specific sins of the king and declares God's judgment against him. Belshazzar rewards Daniel and retires for the evening. The unrepentant king is killed that very night. We are called to be bold as Daniel and to declare God's judgment against sin. This declaration will lead some to repent, but will serve as an eternal indictment against those who persist in rebellion.   Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).

Tale of Two Sovereigns (Sermon: Dan. 4:28-37)
Is Judgement at Hand? Have you recognized the Most High God? What changes when you recognize the glory of God? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Daniel 4:28-37. In these verses, Nebuchadnezzar's dream is realized. After a season to repent expires, the king becomes self-enraptured and falls into the sin of pride. God pronounces a sentence upon the King and takes Nebuchadnezzar's sanity for 7 years. Do we ever fail in our repentance? Do we fall into pride? God's judgment may be at hand for your sin. Even Christians experience consequences of sin in this life. Hold to repentance, and walk in the mercy of Christ. Have you recognized the Most High God? Have you bowed knee to King Jesus? Nebuchadnezzar finally confesses God as the Most High. He comes to his senses after seven years of insanity. He professes the Immortal, Incomparable, and Incontestable God. Do you know this God? The story ends as Nebuchadnezzar tells of his restoration and displays his resolution. After humbling himself before God, Nebuchadnezzar receives sanity, status, subjects and sovereignty. He is given greater majesty than ever before, demonstrating God's generosity. Nebuchadnezzar proclaims God's glory and warns against pride. Are you humble before God? Relinquish pride and receive grace today.

Are you a pretender or a proclaimer? Do you live on borrowed faith, or are you a giver of the Gospel? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Daniel 5:13-22. These verses show the confrontation of Daniel and Belshazzar. The king recognizes Daniel and restates the problem of the writing on the wall. He proposes rewards if Daniel will interpret the meaning. Daniel rejects Belshazzar's offer but agrees to reveal the message. First, Daniel will remind the king of his forefather Nebuchadnezzar. This greater ruler ultimately was broken by God and humbled himself before the Most High. Belshazzar has not followed the example of Nebuchadnezzar.   Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor at North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).

The Toppled Tree (Sermon: Dan 4:1-27)
What moves you to share the Gospel? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Daniel 4:1-27. In these verses, King Nebuchadnezzar testifies to the Most High God, encouraging all people everywhere to acknowledge Him. We find from this chapter that a real encounter with God motivates our worship and our desire to bring others into relationship with our Lord. How do you think through difficult situations? King Nebuchadnezzar was troubled by a dream. He called in the experts, but they could not help. Finally he called upon Daniel, the one with the Spirit of God. When we face difficult issues or circumstances, do we go to God? Do we turn to the revelation of God's Spirit in Scripture? Do you hear God’s voice? Do you listen to God’s warnings? King Nebuchadnezzar's dream was confusing, but clearly represented a warning to the pagan ruler. Nebuchadnezzar recognized the significance of this dream and seeks help. Do you place yourself before God's Word? Remove distractions and seek God's voice. Share God's Word with others, so they can hear the warning and learn of salvation. Will you repent before the judgment? Do you turn from sin when God warns? Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzar's dream. The king is the great tree who will be cut down. He will be humbled for 7 times (likely 7 years). Daniel urged the king to repent to possibly put off the judgment. We can avoid judgment for sin if we will repent and trust in God's mercy. Turn from rebellion and self, turn to Jesus and receive His mercy, forgiveness, and righteousness.

7@7 #100: End of an Empire 3
The world needs a witness! Are you ready to be called upon? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Daniel 5:10-12. In this passage, the queen enters the scene. She brings a calming intervention to a chaotic moment. While Belshazzar does not know what to do, the queen reminds him of Daniel--the man of God. Daniel can give the interpretation. Perhaps there is hope for this wayward king. Are we faithful to bear witness in times of crisis? Are we knowledgeable of the Gospel and of good ministers of God's Word? Do you confidently call people to salvation?

Are you a peace maker? Can you keep your spiritual cool when the world is on fire? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Daniel 5:5-9. These verses disclose God's response to Belshazzar's blasphemous banquet. In the midst of sacrilege, God enters the room to write the doom of Babylon on the wall. Panic ensues when the bodement appears--God's harbinger hand spelling unknown judgment upon Belshazzar. The king's wisemen blunder in interpreting the words. Belshazzar makes desperate deals with any able to offer help. How do we respond in a world writhing in fear? Are you a minister of peace? Do you demonstrate repentance instead of panic?

Faith through Fire (Sermon: Dan. 3:19-30)
Will you persevere in persecution? Have you experienced God’s salvation? When will the righteous be rewarded? In this sermon, Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Daniel 3:19-30. The passage tells of the moment when Nebuchadnezzar cast Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into the fiery furnace. When persecution comes to you or those you love, will you remain faithful? God promises to save the faithful  through the fire.  In the midst of the fire, Nebuchadnezzar sees one like the son of god walking with the other three. The king calls the faithful servants of the Most High from the flames to discover that they were completed preserved from the fire. When God saves, He saves completely. He saves from sin today and from the eternal lake of fire. Have you received this salvation? Upon surviving the furnace, Nebuchadnezzar applauds the servants of God. He praises their faithfulness, and warns their accusers. He awards the three with higher position. God will reward the righteous, in this life or the next, for their faithfulness.

7@7 #98: End of an Empire 1
Will your false gods save you? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Daniel 5:1-4. These verses tell of a Belshazzar's blasphemous banquet. With Persia waiting outside the gates of Babylon, the acting king throws a depraved party in honor of his gods. He commits sacrilege by using Israel's consecrated vessels to toast idols. Instead of repenting and turning to the true God of Daniel and Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar increases his iniquity. What gods to we turn to today? Is it the gods of politics, psychology, education, medicine, or pseudo-morality? Can such gods save us? Repent and turn to the living God.

7@7 #97: Christ's Commission 3
Do you bear witness to the Gospel? What would you risk to maintain your witness? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Acts 1:6-8. These verses remind us of some of the final words of Christ before His ascension. Jesus calls commissions His disciples to be witnesses. In the power of the Holy Spirit, God's witnesses will share the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Church history shows us that often witnesses are synonymous with martyrs. Would you give your life to the advancement of the Gospel?

Conviction in Crisis (Sermon: Dan. 3:1-18)
Are you Alert? Are you prepared? How is your conduct? Are you ready for the test? In this devotion, Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Daniel 3:1-18. This passage reveals the work of Nebuchadnezzar to counteract the dream of chapter 2. By building a statue of solid gold, Nebuchadnezzar rejects the vision of subsequent empires. By mandating worship to this statue, Nebuchadnezzar petitions his gods to continue his empire. The verses tell of the charges brought against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, for not bowing to Nebuchadnezzar's golden statue. The Bible warns Christians that the world will bring accusations against them. Such charges may misrepresent our beliefs and actions. Peter calls believers to live with excellent conduct to shame accusers and perhaps to win them to glory in the day of Christ. Do you have courage in your convictions? The king offers the exiles a final chance to worship his image. Their response is among the greatest answers given in the Bible. "Our God . . . is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, . . . but if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up." Would you have such courage in the face persecution and death? Remain in Christ! Receive His grace, so that you will be ready when the trial comes.

7@7 #96: Christ's Commission 2
Are you a Gospel proclaimer? Are you a Herald for the King? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Luke 24:44-49. These verses remind us of some of the final words of Christ in the Gospel of Luke. In this Great Commission, Jesus instructs His disciples on the content of the Gospel found in all Scripture. He reminds them of the unfulfilled task of proclamation. The Gospel must be proclaimed to all nations by those who witnessed the suffering, death, and resurrection of Christ. As a believer, you have become of witness to the Gospel in your own life. Now you are called to herald that message to the nations. Will you proclaim the Gospel message today?

Dream Weaving Deliverance 2 (Sermon: Dan. 2:24-49)
Have you heard the Good News? Do you hear God's Word? God is in control and will reward the faithful. In this sermon, Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Daniel 2:24-49. Daniel shares God's revelation with Nebuchadnezzar. The image of God's sovereignty was designed to humble this powerful king. Babylon will be followed by lesser empires prior to the arrival of God's eternal kingdom. All earthly power is temporary. God's kingdom is eternal. After hearing Daniel's interpretation, Nebuchadnezzar rewards the prophet. Daniel's God is worshipped. Daniel is promoted and his friends are elevated. God will reward his people. Continue in obedience, endure faithfully and in due time the Lord will lift you up.

Dream Weaving Deliverance 1 (Sermon: Dan. 2:1-23)
Does God have your attention? Where do you turn in times of trouble? How can Christians counter chaos? Pastor Andrew preaches through Daniel 2:1-23. These verses introduce Nebuchadnezzar's dream of the statue. The king's wise men fail to discern the dream and its meaning for Nebuchadnezzar. As a result the king orders the execution of all the wise men. Daniel asks for time. He, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah pray for help and God comes through. God uses human failure to create opportunities to speak through His people. What is He trying to say to or through you? Do you have courage in the Spirit to confront a culture in chaos? Like Daniel, do you pray through trouble and praise in victory?

In His Great Commission, Jesus commands His followers to make disciples. Wherever you find yourself, wherever you go, Jesus calls you to be a disciple maker. Discipleship involves bringing people into a relationship with Christ marked by baptism. Disciple makers walk with disciples unto maturity. Are you continuing to grow in maturity? In the midst of destruction, Daniel reminds us that God is in control. God is Sovereign. This chapter shows the first test given to Daniel and his friends. How will these four young men remain faithful in exile? Their actions are our guide. First, they refuse defilement. Next, they seek for a solution, and finally they demonstrate faith in God's favor. The verses conclude the chapter with blessings for Daniel and his friends. God prospers His people in His time. His blessings will come. We will be rewarded in this life or the one to come if we will remain faithful.

7@7 #80: Conviction in Crisis 1
Are you Alert? Are you prepared? The devil is looking for an opportunity. In this devotion, Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Daniel 3:1-7. This incident follows Nebuchadnezzar's praise of Israel's God. In a short time, the king went from recognizing the Source of true power to trying to usurp that power. Nebuchadnezzar's plan comes with the threat of death to anyone not in compliance. Believers must recognize the activity of the devil. We must be on guard, knowing that even in the good times, Satan is looking for an opportunity to thwart God's plans and attack His people.
