my favorite job was when i worked at a greenhouse - episode 40

Hey there, listener! In this episode of "i" statement, I talked about my favorite job to this day, despite being employed in my desired field and at a public, research university, at that. I do like what I do now, and the work I do is rewarding. However, I can't deny the fact that my part-time job that I had during the summer before my senior year of high school, the summer before college, and during the early months of the pandemic was the most rewarding, supportive, and shaping job I have ever had. Attitudes around part-time jobs and experiences that are unrelated to your major or desired career path are often downplayed and deemed insignificant, when in reality, they are often are primitive experiences in working with people, dealing with conflict, completing tasks, and managing many things at once. We should be praising these experiences, not dismissing them. Thanks for listening✨

a few habits that have changed my day-to-day flow - episode 39

Hey there, listener! In this episode of "i" statement, I share a few habits that I've developed over the last several months/year that have vastly improved my everyday life. From limiting screen time to eating nourishing food at least twice a day, I hope these habits resonate with you, inspire you, or give you ideas on how to build on the habits that you already have as part of your routine. how to utilize social media in your networking efforts - career series, episode 1

Hey there, listener! In this week's episode of "i" statement, I discuss popular forms of social media, including Instagram and LinkedIn, and the ways in which they're used in the networking landscape. From talking about the best days to post to the key features of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn, this episode all of things career-related when it comes to being active online. if you're thinking about quitting your job and starting fresh, this is your sign! - episode 38

if you're thinking about quitting your job and starting fresh, this is your sign! - episode 38

Hey there, listener! In this episode of "i" statement, I talk about how I quit my teaching job only seven months into my contract, accepted a job offer in a different field, moved out of state, and started fresh. A big change like this - well, two big changes, really - can be extremely daunting, but taking a leap of faith can sometimes offer opportunities that you might not have had otherwise. Leaning into a fresh start is key to accepting and embracing the "new," and having a strong support network doesn't hurt, either. Thanks for listening✨

the "feminine" presentation - episode 37

Hey there, listener! In this episode of "i" statement, I dive into the complexities of the "feminine" presentation and definition as it relates to me individually and how my own identity can ripple into society's definition of "feminine." I address my privilege as a White, cisgender person discussing this topic, but I hope that my own exploration can encourage others to consider their definition of what it means to be "feminine" or to have "feminine" qualities in order to help dismantle systems in place that present inequities and disadvantages for marginalized communities. the complexities of food and fitness - episode 36

Hey there, listener! In this episode of "i" statement, I discuss my personal journey with fitness and general activity as it connects to food. Throughout my life, I've always been an active person, but the incorporation of more focused fitness into my life combined with my varied food consumption patterns has led me on journey that has taught me many lessons and has helped me to develop important realizations. I'm glad I get to share them with you. Thanks for listening✨

it's all part of the plan - episode 35

Hey there, listener! It's been a while since I've posted an episode, but I'm back with a new one about strategic planning and implementation at my undergraduate alma mater. I dive into my experience as a member of the Strategic Planning Committee, the implications of the college's choices in committee member selection and publication of the plan, and the ways in which I think the college can shift its decisions regarding the creation of the plan and how it is shared with the greater college community. Thanks for listening✨

it's in the research - episode 34

Hey there, listener! In this week's episode of "i" statement, I talk about the differences between information contained in an informative news article versus the peer-reviewed research article that's referenced by the news outlet, and the disparities are pretty shocking. It's important to remember that lots of media is sensationalized and inflated, and that as conscious consumers of media and information, it's largely our responsibility to pick through what's fact and what's fabrication. Thanks for listening✨

my educational journey - episode 33

Hey there, listener! In this week's episode of "i" statement, I discuss my educational journey, as a learner toward earning my teaching degree and as a student teacher in a school. I felt this topic was fitting due to my student teaching coming to a close at the end of this week. I reflect on my experiences as a young college student, through my time abroad as an educator and Spanish speaker, to my experiences as a student teacher in a fifth grade classroom and team setting. Here are two important pieces of my educational journey that you can take a look at, if you're interested:

decision fatigue & defining core principles - episode 32

Hey there, listener! In this episode of "i" statement, I discuss a phenomenon I have not only run into, but have been experiencing - decision fatigue. I unpack decision fatigue after a little update about how I'm doing, and then I transition in to talking about core principles. Core principles are those central beliefs and values that guide your way of being. We all have them, but we may not have consciously tapped into them yet, and I encourage you to take that leap and unearth your core principles to the surface. Thanks for listening✨

Hey there, listener! In this week's episode, I let you all in on my (guilty) pleasures. I try not to label them as "guilty" pleasures, because we shouldn't feel ashamed for liking or engaging in the activities that bring us satisfaction and joy. There's not much to say here - you'll have to listen to find out what some of my pleasures are! Thanks for listening✨

what's it like attending zoom university during a global pandemic? - episode 30

Hey there, listener! In this week's episode, I read and comment on an article I've written for an online academic journal called Hybrid Pedagogy. In this article, I discuss what my, and many students alike, challenges, concerns, and disquietudes have been regarding learning during the pandemic. Most notably, communication, accessible learning in the digital environment, and mental wellbeing need to be prioritized and/or improved. I know many students can relate to the themes addressed in this episode, and if you're someone who can relate, know I am by your side and am fighting for change every single day. Hey there, listener! In this week's episode of "i" statement, I dive into the concept of "confidence," specifically self-confidence and how I've come to establish and maintain confidence in myself. Although I wasn't always a very confident person, and don't consider myself to be extremely confident now, I've worked diligently to feel self-assured and to trust in myself, and I feel it's important to share that process with all of you. i'm student teaching! - episode 28

Hey there, listener! In this week's episode of "i" statement, I talk about my recent skiing trip to Sugarbush Resort in Warren, Vermont. This beautiful powder day enabled me to exist in my peace and do some reflective thinking, specifically about my first week as a student teacher! I've been building great connections with my students, and an intention of mine in the classroom is to differentiate instruction to make learning accessible for all of my students, as well as introduce issues of equity, inclusion, and belonging into the learning space. the importance of boundaries - episode 27

Hey there, listener! In this week's episode, I discuss what makes up a healthy boundary, as well as the importance of setting healthy boundaries in your everyday life. Boundaries are variable, individualized, and have the capacity to change, and identifying a need is the first step to creating a healthy, productive boundary. They are crucial in relationships, so I brought in my partner, Ryan, to discuss how we set boundaries in our own relationship, and we each give examples of boundaries we currently have. intentions and accomplishments - episode 25

Hey there, listener! In this week's episode, as we're about to ring in the new year, I talk about how I've created intentions for 2021 rather than goals, and what this minor shift in wording does for my brain and how I approach what I'm desiring. I also talk about accomplishments and what I've achieved this year, and I wanted to share them with you, because you've been on the majority of this year's journey with me. Taking the time to reflect on what I've done this year and what I hope to see in the future was very transformative and made me feel whole, and I think it might help you feel the same way, too. communication as leadership - episode 24

communication as leadership - episode 24

Hey there, listener! In this week's episode of "i" statement, I address what's been going on at my college (or lack thereof) in terms of communication and informing the student body of important changes happening within and outside of the institution. I address a letter that I, and my fellow peers, constructed and sent to administration that detailed and expressed our concerns. I don't talk about the response we received to that letter, but it was less than ideal in terms of changing the narrative that highlights the agreement of separation in education. As an aspiring higher education leader, I want my college to do better, and I want to be represent and advocate for that "better" one day. Thanks for listening✨

Hey there, listener! In this week's episode of "i" statement, I sit down with two good friends of mine, Hunter Baird and Katia Pancorvo, and talk about how one shared experience brought us together in great ways. We all studied abroad together in Granada, Spain, and during this time we spent together recording the podcast, we reminisced about Granada, talked about food (including a super good banana bread recipe!), and our plans for the future. Even though we're all so far apart physically, it was great to be close over the screen. Thanks for listening✨

rhizomatic pedagogy: what is it? - episode 22

Hey there, listener! In this week's episode, I tap into my educational, pedagogical side to bring you another episode centered around teaching and learning. I talk about the rhizomatic model of learning and its important place in the classroom today. Informed by the work of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, rhizomatic learning is circumstantial, interconnected, and ever-evolving. It is not hierarchical or bound, but rather, it is coming and going. I'm excited to explore this pedagogical lens as I navigate my teaching experiences. Thanks for listening✨

the history and promises of podcasting - (bonus) episode 21

Hey there, listener! In this week's bonus episode, I discuss the history of podcasting for a final project in one of my classes, and I also talk about what the future of this relatively new form of media might look like. From its conception over 15 years ago to how it has adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic, podcasting is pretty resilient, and it looks like it can withstand the test of time. I'm so happy to be able to contribute to this media, and I hope you enjoy learning about what I love to do. Thanks for listening✨
